Taster Success
Thank you to all the parents who attended the well-received Winter
Warmer Taster Session the Academy held last Friday. The
responses from it were overwhelmingly supportive of the menu and
the changes to selection. For the next two ½ terms we will be
serving a traditional, vegetarian and jacket potato option on a daily
basis.
“Overall really pleased as obviously home cooked and freshly
prepared”
“The changes to meals have been very good and positive”
“The food today has been delicious and I see no reason why the
children wouldn’t want to eat it”
On your bike, get set, go!
Years 5 and 6 have loved the
opportunity to get out and
about on their bikes over the
last few weeks. The
instructors who came into the
Academy were impressed
with the children’s
enthusiasm, manners and
ability to take on board the
instruction given to them. Not
even the weather could
dampen the children’s spirits or their commitment to learn new skills. I am in discussion with the cycle team line
manager to see if any support could be given in acquiring a bike shelter. Therefore, I would be interested in
parents thoughts about allowing children to ride bikes to the Academy before we make a firm commitment (there
are pros and cons).
Parents working group on policy updates
Thank you to those parents who attended the policy discussion around anti-bullying and behaviour. The changes
suggested have been made to the policies and the new and improved versions will be available soon. We would
like to continue with this collaborate working and will inform parents of the next policy we are looking to change
in order to put together another group.

Keeping parents informed
We intend to inform parents every ½ term of their child’s progress or effort
within the Academy. This week we are sending home Effort cards for KS1
and KS2 pupils. This will highlight the effort we feel your child has put into
their different curriculum areas so far this ½ term. Next ½ term we are
following this up, very swiftly, with parent consultation meetings. KS1 and
KS2 will hold meetings on the Monday and Tuesday of the first week (letters
have already been sent out and time slips will be sent home with your child
– please check bags!). Upper Foundation parent consultations will be held
on the first Monday and Wednesday with Lower Foundation meetings to run
over the second week (separate letters detailing this event will
follow shortly). We would like all parents to attend these
meetings in order to support us with your child’s educational
development. If however, you are unable to attend, whilst we
strongly encourage you to do so, we request that you make
alternative arrangements with your child’s class teacher.
Christmas Fayre
Just a reminder that the Rook’s Nest staff and PTA will be
hosting a Christmas Fayre on Friday 5th December between
2:00 and 6:00. In order to support this we will be having a non-
uniform day on 28th November and asking children to bring
either a “bottle or a box”. If you have any other items that you
could donate for raffle or tombola prizes they would be greatly
received.
Music Lessons
Mr Stacey will be continuing with the music tuition for children he has been
working with this term, however, payments will now be made to the
Academy. Lessons will be held in afternoon sessions to help minimise the
risk of sessions after school having to be cancelled. If you would like your
child to learn how to play the guitar we have some sessions still available.
Guitar lessons
are £15 per
term. If you
are interested
please contact
the Academy
office.
Aiming High
We are delighted with the success of the Year 6 pupils who have passed their entrance examinations to attend Heckmondwike Grammar School in Y7. Competition for places was again fierce with over 2000 pupils applying for 150 limited places. Therefore, it is with immense pride that we will be sending 3 of our pupils there next year.
Fair Trade tuck shop.
The children managed to raise around £35 this year selling Fair Trade items. This will go into the School Council fund.
