Bob Van Camp was one of the original "Legacy" inductees (posthumously). John grew up in Dyersburg, Tennessee, attended public school and began working in radio before graduating from high school. He attended Georgia Tech and while there got his first license and, during summer vacations, did engineering work at stations in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. In 1964, he applied for and got a part-time job at WSB-FM doing an evening shift. Soon, he moved to WSB-AM as a full-time employee. He worked on- the-air, production, and news positions. When 2007 Georgia Radio Hall of Fame Legacy inductee Bob Van Camp retired, John became solo host of WSB Merry Go Round from 5 to 10 am. Jim Howell joined Moore as co-host (Jim and John) until he left and was replaced by Gay Kinsey. John interviewed all the celebrities who came to Atlanta. In 1982 after being taken off on mornings and made a nighttime producer, he left WSB and became chief engineer and morning man at WRNG. His next stop was at WJYA- AM in Marietta/WJYF-FM licensed to La Grange, but with studios in Marietta. He served as operations manager until the stations were sold. John then worked at WDYX/WLKQ in Buford before he left radio. In 1992, he became a full-time Software Developer at Central Health Services and in 1993, was promoted to head PC Development. In 2001, Moore joined the programming staff at Radiant Systems in Alpharetta, where he remained until retiring in 2008.

It has been two years since we had a chapter program at Ron and Donna Carter’s beautiful lakeside home in west Cobb County. Just as in previous years Ron has put together a real variety show featuring organ solos, vocals, piano/organ duets and a surprise or two!

The Allen GW-IV has had the recent addition of the Vista touch screen Navigator which provides the GW-IV with many additional voices, not to mention the addition of a 32-ft Diaphone and two more tibias and vox’s! Silent Series Continues

Sunday November 25th, 3 pm the classic silent film Pandora’s Box

starring Louise Brooks with a fantastic accompaniment score by house organist Ron Carter and organ pops pre-show by Ken Double at 2:30 pm. Produced at the end of the silent film era, Pandora's Box stars Louise Brooks, as Lulu, a young and raw seductress dashing through the lives of suitors who fall victim like a moth to her flame. The Germans were ahead of Hollywood at least 40 years by introducing the first lesbian character on film in Countess Anna, who is played by Alice Roberts. Louise Brooks appeared in 24 films between 1925 and 1938. She was a gifted actress, writer and dancer, having appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies. She is remembered still for her independent spirit, remarkable beauty and trademark hair style. There is even a Louise Brooks society, an internet-based international fan club that has over 1400 members! The film's title Pandora’s Box is a reference to Pandora of Greek Mythology, who upon opening a box given to her by the gods released all evils into the world, leaving only hope behind! Louise Brook uses her raw sexuality and uninhibited nature to bring about the downfall of almost everyone she meets including herself!!

Saturday, October 12th, 2012, at 3:00 pm, our second annual (two years in a row – that makes it an annual event, correct ???) ACATOS / AGO pro-gram happened at the Strand Theatre, on the Marietta Square. The featured instrument was the Allen Renaissance GW-IV, and our artists were gathered from both groups. President Randy Hendry called the meet-ing to order, and after a brief chapter business session, introduced our emcee for the day, Mr. Bob McKoon. Bob set the stage for the gathering of the groups and then introduced our first artist of the day. Steve Grant (AGO/ACATOS) provided a couple of selections from the musical “The Sound of Music,” including the title song “The Sound of Music,” “Maria,” and “Climb Every Mountain.” The “Sound of Music” and “Climb Every Mountain” seem to have wandered through France, and temporarily landed on the desk of Charles Marie Widor – where he promptly added his signature style to these two works before releasing them !! Next up was Rick McGee (ACATOS). One of the Strand roster of house organists, Rick offered a ‘Classified’ Halloween medley of tunes: “Ad Nos Ad Solutarum / Funeral March of a Marionette / In the Hall of the Mountain King / Liszts’ Danse Macabre.” Follow-ing this was “Stars In My Eyes.” Then a grouping of lighter-SPIRITED songs from the ‘Silly Symphonies’ cartoon series: “Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf,” “Who Shot Cock Robin?,” and “Somebody Rubbed Out My Robin.” Then, Larry Davis (ACATOS) another of the Strand roster of house organists, appeared from the depths, ushered in by the “King Kong March.” A couple of selections from serious Sci-Fi (from films like “Metropolis”) and then he put us all to work by offering the selections “The Addams Family,” “Casper, the Friendly Ghost,” and “The Monster Frankenstein.” The audience gave good representation to these three selections presented as a sing-a-long. Laurel Gibson (AGO) graced the bench, in full clown regalia (I wonder if she used this at church ?), to

give us a trip through the carnival and circus varieties of the organ. She featured a variety of selections – opening with “The Man on the Flying Trapeze” on a calliope – and continu-ing through the band organ, the old pump-style reed organ and the hurdy gurdy. Laurel, how many of these instruments do you have hidden away at home?? Next, Ron Carter (ACATOS) another of the Strand roster of

house organists, opened with the selection “June Night, the Moonlight, and You.” After this, he presented a short silent comedy (Stan Laurel WITHOUT Oliver Hardy) titled “Dr. Pride and Mr. Pickle.” This ably demonstrated the original creation purpose of the theatre unit orchestra. Misha Stefanuk (ACATOS) another of the Strand roster of house organists, brought us yet another flavor of the theatre organ with “Phantasie Impromptu,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” This gave us transcriptions from classical piano to marching band !! Randy Elkins (AGO) toured us through Germany and France with a couple of selections: “Toccata” J. S. Bach (BWV 565) (did I get that correct ?) and the “Final” - Symphonie 1 – Louis Vierne (a preview of things to come !!!) Ken Double (ACATOS) another of the Strand roster of house organists, and President / CEO of the American Theatre Organ Society, wrapped up the show by offering current theatre organ styling arrangements of “You Turn the Tables on Me,” and “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing.” The styles and selections were many and greatly varied, showing the versatility of one of these instruments with the right artist at the pallet – I mean stops !! Open console followed with John Baldwin (one of our newest members) and others taking the plunge at the console and the lift at the theatre.

Offered by Biz E. Body, a completely unbiased ear! Remember, the walls / chambers and balcony all have ears!!
