Romeoville began in the late 1800sas Romeo, the twin community toJuliet, now Joliet. Romeoville’s

roots are embedded in the historic I&MCanal system. Primarily, the canalserved to supply Chicago proper withproduce in exchange for manufacturedgoods. During the early part of the 20thcentury, as frequent commercial trafficthrived on the canal, Romeoville thrived

as a popular resort destination. Isle a laCache and Romeo Beach attractednumerous affluent Chicago residents.Since being incorporated on January21, 1895, Romeoville has experiencedvarious periods of expansion andgrowth to become the largestcommunity totally incorporated withinWill County, Illinois.

Romeoville’s location providesexcellent accessibility to highway,rail, water shipping and air

transportation. Romeoville is convenientlylocated along the Stevenson Expressway(I-55), with direct access at Weber Roadand Joliet Road. Additional majorthoroughfares include the North-SouthTollway (I-355) and the Tri-State Tollway(I-294/I-80). O’Hare InternationalAirport is just 30 miles away andMidway Airport is just 20 miles away.The Joliet Port District Airport, located inRomeoville, provides convenient airtransportation for all businesses in theChicago area. The airport functions as a

thriving corporate airport and is home toLewis University’s Aviation Program.Additional transportation opportunitiesare on the forefront for Romeoville.

The Village of Romeoville remainsproactive in addressing transportation

needs. Romeoville has always beenknown for its attractive location. What iseven more attractive is Romeoville’songoing commitment to improve existingroutes and secure additional modes oftransportation for residents andbusinesses, such as the construction of anew Metra Station, which is currently inthe engineering phase. This station willbe located on 135th Street near NewAvenue. Progress also continues for anew interchange at Airport Road and I-55 to address future needs along theWeber Road Corridor.

Romeoville offers a diverse selectionof cultural events andentertainment. Throughout the year,

residents and visitors are invited toattend a variety of carnivals, fireworkdisplays, arts & crafts shows as well asseveral annual favorites.

Families enjoy summertime park parties,a concert series and movies under thestars at Deer Crossing Park &Amphitheatre, while car enthusiasts packthe lot at Town Hall Drive and PhelpsAvenue for the annual Car Show eachJune. The community’s signature end-of-summer event, RomeoFest, draws around50,000 guests and features outstandingfireworks and a variety of familyentertainment.

Sports enthusiasts enjoy excellentrecreation activities at Brunswick Zone,Canlan’s Ice Center and one ofChicagoland’s premier golf courses –Mistwood Golf Club.

enjoy an affordable night of familyentertainment watching the 2011Frontier League Champions, the JolietSlammers.

Lewis University, founded in 1932,has grown from a small technicalschool into a mid-sized campus ofabout 6,600 students. The Lewis maincampus is a picturesque 376-acresuburban setting which houses 1,000students in 11 residence halls. The North Campus of Joliet JuniorCollege, America’s oldest publiccommunity college, is located just off ofWeber Road on 135th Street and hasover 4,000 students. To meet thegrowing needs of the campus,expansion plans are already underwaywith completion anticipated for 2016.The construction plan calls for additionalspace for academic programs andstudent development services to respondto this growth. The new expansion will

include additional computer labs, newbiology, anatomy and physiology labs.

Rasmussen College, as a regionallyaccredited college, offers programsdesigned to help you graduate in aslittle as 9, 12 or 18 months so you canstart or advance your career quicker. Tomeet the area needs, Rasmussencontinues to offer a variety of career-focused programs including the newSchool of Nursing program.

Area medical facilities includeSilver Cross Hospital in NewLenox, Provena St. Joseph

Hospital in Joliet, Edward Hospital inNaperville and Adventist BolingbrookHospital. These state-of-the-artfacilities are expertly staffed andprovide a variety of services inemergency treatment and specializedhealthcare prevention. Specifictreatment programs offered arewellness, physical therapy and prenatal care. Romeoville is home to a pool of talented healthcareprofessionals including physicians,optometrists and dentists. Along witharea hospitals, local clinics and thosein neighboring communities,specialized care for such needs asobstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics,podiatry and chiropractic care arenever far away.

The award-winning RomeovilleRecreation Department exists toprovide quality recreational services

to all age groups in the communitythrough a diversified selection of classes,programs, athletic leagues andcommunity events. Toddlers to seniorcitizens can find an activity or event thatwill suit their needs. Offering over 30special events, 29 parks and recreationalareas, and many FREE events for familiesincluding summer Movies in the Park andPark Parties, the Rockin’ the Ville concertseries, a four-day festival calledRomeoFest, Santa visits at the WinterWonderland event and a Glow-in the-Dark Egg Hunt in spring. The RecreationDepartment continues to add andimprove to its wide variety of leisure timeactivities that are offered to the residentsand surrounding communities.

The hub of community leisure timeactivities takes place at Village Park,which features the 55,000-square-footRecreation Center, four baseballdiamonds (one lighted baseballdiamond), one lighted football field,lighted tennis courts, playgrounds, a

picnic pavilion, horseshoe pits, aconcession stand and an openrecreational space.

The Recreation Center, recipient of theIllinois Park and Recreation Association’s2002 Outstanding Facility of the YearAward and 2013 Exceptional WorkplaceAward, houses the 3,000-square-footFit-4-Life Fitness Center, which overlooksbeautiful Village Park. Fitness centeramenities include state-of-the-artequipment, a free weight area, stretchingarea and locker rooms.

The newest recreation amenity is theRomeoville athletic and event center. This76,000-square-foot facility providesunique opportunities to the vast andgrowing sports market. It offers twoindoor soccer fields and two IHSAbasketball courts/volleyball courts, andsix portable IHSA basketball courts forlarge tournament needs.
