Build the Block– 111Precinct Sector D Bayside The NYPD officers serving your community in-vite you to a discussion of the public safety chal-lenges in our neighborhood. With neighborhood policing, the Neighborhood Coordination Offi-cers (NCOs), and the Steady Sector Officers who work with them, have been given more time and opportunity to collaborate with residents in identifying and solving local quality of life con-ditions and crime concerns. The same officers are assigned to our community each day, so these officers learn the neighborhood, its chal-lenges and potential, and the people who call it home. This is a new way of doing business for the NYPD, and we need your help to make it work. We want to hear from a broad range of voices about what it will take to make all the residents of our neighborhood feel safe. Please join us for what we hope will be a lively and productive discussion. The celebration of the Epiphany is an awesome oc-casion to see and understand how religion and sci-ence work together. The three Magi, who were watchers of the stars, perhaps followers of Zoroas-trianism, they studied the stars in hopes of under-standing the universe and the cosmos of the sky. Just as scientist today study in detail cells, plants, the human body, and nature they realize that with every new discovery comes an opening which leads deeper into the mysteries and realities of what they are studying. And so it was for the Magi. The Magi studied the starts and wanted to know their origin or their “Orient”. Then came the day while they looked at the stars they saw a spectacular sign in the sky, perhaps a Super Nova which they had to follow. The star came from the East and it leads the Magi to Bethlehem to a baby, Jesus! They found Mary with Her Son the True Orient or Way, Jesus Christ, who would preach one day “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life” and “I AM the Light of the World.” The Magi did not just see a star in the sky but the “handwriting of God” which spelt out “This is my beloved Son.” And so the Magi found the Creator of the Stars and the origin of all. Their lives were change after meeting the child Je-sus forever and they were warned not to return to Herod going home by a different way. They left by a different way in two ways: first, literally a differ-ent road and secondly, they left in a deferent way due to the fact that they met God! We, as Catholics, are called to walk a “different way” by worshiping God in the Sacred Liturgy every week and Holy Days, by receiving Him in Holy Communion worthily, so that as we are fed of Jesus we might live Jesus with a solid and strong faith which causes us to respect LIFE and all its stages, to build the Kingdom of God in our homes and society, to profess Jesus daily by words and actions, to live Credo! We walk this different path because we can be fed the Sacred Body and Blood of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament and this en-counter with the Eucharist Lord changes us for it is our food so that we have energy to walk a different way and live a Christ centered life, a life of faith. May 2020 be for all of us a Eucharistic year, Amen! In Christ, Fr. Saffron
