The importance of being silent

the sun, the more the sun’s energy will engulf them. The closer we get to the fireplace, the warmer we become. The more time we spend in close proximity with the Son of God and the Light of the World in the context of the Eucharistic Holy Hour, the more His light, His life, and His power will be channeled through our lives as we become genuine prisms and living icons of Christ.” Consider the twelve (12) Biblical reasons for wanting to spend one hour with Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament: 1. He is really there! "I myself am the living bread come down from heaven" (John 6:35). 2. Day and night Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament because of his Infinite love for you! "Behold I will be with you always even to the end of the world," because "I have loved you with an everlasting love, and constant is my affection for you" (Matthew 28:20; Jeremiah 31:3). 3. The specific way that Jesus asks you to love him in return is to spend one quiet hour with him in the Blessed Sacrament. "Where your treasure is, there is your heart...." "Could you not watch one hour with me?" (Matthew 6:21; 26:40). 4. When you look upon the Sacred Host, you look upon Jesus, the Son of God. "Indeed, this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day." (John 6:40) 5. Each moment that you spend in His Eucharistic Presence will increase his divine life within you and deepen your personal relationship and friendship with Him. "I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly." "I am the vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him shall bear much fruit because without me, you can do nothing." (John 15:5) 6. Each hour you spend with Jesus will deepen his divine peace in your heart. "Come to me all of you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you..." "Cast all of your anxieties upon the one who cares for you..." "My Peace is My Gift to you" (Matthew 11:28; 1 Peter 5:7; John 14:17). 7. Jesus will give you all the graces you need to be happy! "The Lamb on the throne will shepherd them. He will lead them to the springs of life-giving water" (Revelation 7:17). 8. Jesus is infinitely deserving of our unceasing thanksgiving and adoration for all he has done for our salvation. "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive honor, glory and praise" (Revelation 5:12) 9. For peace in our country! "When my people humble themselves and seek my presence... I will revive their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14) 10. Each hour you spend with Jesus on earth will leave your soul everlastingly more beautiful and glorious in heaven! "They who humble themselves shall be exalted...." "All of us, gazing on the Lord’s glory with unveiled faces, are being transformed from glory to glory into his very image" (Luke 18:14; 2 Corinthians 3:18). 11. Jesus will bless you, your family and the whole world for this hour of faith you spend with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. "Blessed are they who do not see and yet believe..." "Faith can move mountains..." " What is needed is trust... " "Behold I come to make all things new" (John 20:29; Mark 11:23; Mark 5:36; Revelation 21:5). 12. Each moment you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament brings joy, pleasure, and delight to his Sacred Heart! "My joy, my pleasure, my delight is to be with you" (Proverbs 8:31).

“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10) There is so much noise in our lives, from going to bed with the television on, waking up to music from Alexa or Siri, from ear pods in our ears throughout the day or just some noise in the background. There are very few times in our daily lives where there is silence. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI once said that “God’s first language is silence.” How many times in our lives have we ever chosen to be in silence and not be distracted by our cell phones, books, beads or written prayers? As Americans or maybe even as people in general, we abhor that awkward silence when we put ourselves before the Lord. The problem with our dis-ease or dis-comfort, is that it is exactly in these moments which God speaks the loudest and clearest to us. As our former Holy Father noted correctly, God reveals Himself in silence, but He also reveals us to ourselves in silence as well. And you wonder why we do not like it? For many people, they blame the silence or the prayer time for their restless and wandering minds. They think that it is because of this prayer time that these restless thoughts, anxieties, and fears (which can be close to sinning) come to the forefront and because of this, people often opt out of even spending any quiet time with the Lord. The truth is that prayer is not causing these things to happen. Silence is like a magnifying glass that reveals and exposes to us what is already in our hearts. There is no distraction from the angst in our lives. Silence puts it right in our faces. That is why we do not like the silence. Because who honestly wants to deal with the “stuff” going on in our lives? It was the French Mathematician Blasé Pascal (1623-1662) who once said: “All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s ability to sit quietly in a room alone.” The First Friday of each month, Saint Joseph Church hosts Adoration and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. You are joyfully invited to join our parish family to come and sit a few moments, minutes or even hours before the Lord Himself, present under the appearance of bread in the monstrance immediately following the 12:05pm Mass at 12:30pm. Come and deal with your thoughts, ideas, and restlessness that often distract us from the Lord, from each another and even from ourselves. When they come, and they will, this is the time to invite God into these areas of our lives that trouble us. Allow Him to teach us what we need in our lives. Allow him to change these fears and anxieties into opportunities of grace. Don’t be afraid to be alone with God. It might be boring at first, but allow God to use that boredom to create something new for each of us in our lives. Don’t be afraid to be silent, because it is God’s first language. Come and sit quietly in the house of the Lord alone and let His grace, His peace, and His strength fill your hearts. As I have written in the past, there is perhaps no other bishop in the history of the United States who has had a more positive impact on the work of evangelization than Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen (1895-1979). It has been estimated that over thirty million people tuned into his television show each week. And why? I believe it was because of his spirituality which found its “source and summit” in the Eucharist. Venerable Sheen celebrated Mass and sat in silence before the Eucharistic Lord every day of his life. Pope Saint John Paul II wrote: “Indeed, the Eucharist is the ineffable Sacrament! The essential commitment and, above all, the visible grace and source of supernatural strength for the Church as the People of God is to persevere and advance constantly in Eucharistic life and Eucharistic piety and to develop spiritually in the climate of the Eucharist.” The closer one gets to

A baby's heart starts beating between 18 and 24 days. At 20 days the foundations of brain, spinal cord and nervous system are established. Doctor Steven Zielinski, an

internal medicine physician from Oregon, is one of the leading researchers into the concept of fetal pain and published the first reports in the 1980's to validate research and show evidence for it. He has testified before Congress that an unborn child can feel pain at "eight-and-a-half weeks and possibly earlier" and that a baby before birth "under the right circumstances, is capable of crying."
