Malaria is a parasitic diseasetransmitted by the bite of
infectedmosquitoes. Once the first
symptomsappear, malaria can kill very
rapidlyand often does.
300-500 million cases of malaria cause up to
3 MILLIONDEATHS EVERY YEAR, most of them children under the age of 5.
By 2015, the malaria-specific United Nations Millennium Development Goal (MDG 6) is
achieved:
• Malaria is no longer a major cause of mortality.

the InternationalFederation of the Red Cross and the United Nations.
Y’s Men International and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
have already begun their coordinated efforts.
the IFRC will continue as our partner to distribute nets funded by YMI in
Sierra Leone, Kenya, Liberia and India.
