Innes Professor of Cancer Research Research Interests: Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Lymphoma; Melanoma; DNA Tumor Virology, noncoding RNAs, Epigenetics, Virus-Host Interactions ROLF RENNE, PhD, is the associate director for basic sciences at UF Health Cancer Center and a professor in the department of molecular genetics and microbiology. In his role as associate director for basic sciences, Dr. Renne is responsible for developing and coordinating all UF Health Cancer Center-associated basic science research programs and fostering new interdisciplinary collaborations between different programs, and between basic and clinical cancer researchers, with the goal of translating hypothesis-driven basic cancer research into future prevention and treatment strategies. Dr. Renne also oversees all activities and resources associated with providing the best possible research infrastructure to cancer center members. As a professor, he directs and teaches doctorate-level courses in Advanced Virology and Doctoral Research. Dr. Renne joined the UF College of Medicine’s Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology in 2004. He has been studying Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) since 1995, and is also involved in studies about Epstein-Barr Virus associated malignancies. His laboratory uses genomics, genetics and ribonomics approaches to study how virally-encoded genes, including microRNAs and long noncoding RNAs, contribute to KSHV biology and tumorigenesis. His research interests also include Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma, lymphoma, melanoma, DNA tumor virology, noncoding RNAs, epigenetics and virus-host interactions. Dr. Renne also serves as interim co-leader of the Mechanisms of Oncogenesis (MOO) working group for the UF Health Cancer Center. After graduation from Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany, Dr. Renne completed his postdoctoral training as Special Leukemia Society fellow at the University of California, San Francisco with Don Ganem.
