Instruction should be student - centered
Information and content is relevant and interesting to studentContent is built to expand on their current knowledge baseFocuses on the student rather than the transmission of informationStudent can experiment with their learningLearning is more meaningful
Education should be collaborative
•Children learn most by being active. Collaborative learning focuses on active participation, like moving around, drawing, creating, and performing. All learning should be student-focused, not content-focused. This means that when planning for instruction, Ms. Tyler should consider how her students learn and what methods she can use to enhance that learning
Learning should have context
•Many students have a difficult time understanding academic concepts (such as math concepts) as they are commonly taught (that is, using an abstract, lecture method), but they desperately need to understand the concepts as they relate to the workplace and to the larger society in which they will live and work. Traditionally, students have been expected to make these connections on their own, outside the classroom.
