ROFFER'S OCEAN FISHING FORECASTING SERVICE, INC. TOLL FREE 800 677-7633 & (321) 723-5759 // EMAIL: [email protected] ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE WALKER’S CAY OFFSHORE AREA (LAT./LONG.) UPDATED ON WEDNESDAY 25 APRIL 2012 FOR WEDNESDAY P.M. & THURSDAY FISHING ONLY Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non- marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location. We continue to be able to see the ocean conditions in this area relatively clearly using a combination of high resolution infrared SST imagery from this morning and this afternoon. Overall, we continue to follow the circulation towards Abaco of the relatively cooler (77.2°F-76.3°F) “Bahamas” blue water over the Little Abaco Canyon and northward over the Great Abaco Canyon areas, which we believe to be the source of most of the blue marlin coming into this area. Some of this water also continues to move south/southeastward in a general counter-clockwise circulation north of the Walker’s Cay area and towards the areas offshore of Walker’s Cay and Stranger’s Cay Closer to the Abaco area and northwestward along the island chain we also continue to observe a band (approximately 12-15 miles wide) of Gulf Stream water moving southeastward and then southward over the areas of the Bridge, the Pocket and the North Bar and towards the area offshore of Cherokee Sound (Abaco). If you can not make it to the western edge of the clean “Bahamas” blue water or if you do not wish to travel that far, the edges of the finger of Gulf Stream water are likely to provide relatively good chances for fishing action with tuna, dolphin and marlin particularly where the ocean conditions have remained favorable for two and three days now. With this in mind, towards the area offshore of Green Turtle Cay, good chances for fishing action occur where we observed the southwestern edge of the finger of Gulf Stream water for two and three days over the 250 fathom ledges near 77°12’W & 26°46’N and 77°19-20’W & 26°52’N. Offshore, some increased chances for fishing action are likely to happen where we observed favorable ocean conditions for the first time today in the area of the Double Dips (77°15’W & 26°58’N and 77°21-22’W & 27°02-03’N and offshore towards the tip of the Great Abaco Canyon from 77°26’W & 27°16’N to 77°26-27’W & 27°25’N. Eastward, towards the Little Abaco Canyon area, good chances for fishing action with tuna, dolphin, and marlin are also likely to happen where we observed the northeastern edge of the blue (79.4°F) water for three days now three days now over the northern side of the canyon near 76°53’W & 26°44’N and southeastward towards the area of the Bridge near 76°49’W & 26°39’N. We continue to suggest you begin fishing in these areas and if fishing action is not up to your expectations, move offshore (east/northeastward) and find the leading edge of the relatively cleaner and cooler (77.2°F) “Bahamas” blue water from 76°44’W & 26°35-36’N to 76°48’W & 26°45’N to 76°53’W & 26°52’N. Northward, additional marlin action is likely over the Great Abaco Canyon area where we observed the leading edge of the “Bahamas” blue water for two days now from 76°59’W & 27°03’N to 76°59’W & 27°13’N. Towards the Walker’s Cay area, good chances for fishing action occur where we observed the southern edge of the finger of Gulf Stream water for three days now over the 100 fathom ledge near 78°26’W & 27°20’N and 78°23’W & 27°18’N and also southeastward towards the area offshore of Stranger’s Cay near 78°11’W & 27°14’N and 78°00’W & 27°09’N. Northward, additional good chances for action occur where we observed the northern edge of the same finger of dark blue (79.4°F) water for two days now over the good bottom of the Fingers near 78°16’W & 27°22’N and northwestward towards the 250 fathom ledge near 78°26’W & 27°26’N and 78°30-31’W & 27°25-26’N. Offshore, good chances for tuna, dolphin, and marlin action occur where we observed the leading edge of the clean cooler (76.7°F) “Bahamas” blue water and the ocean conditions have remained favorable for two and three days now from the Northwest Humps area and offshore over the 420-470 fathom depths from 78°30’W & 27°29’N to 78°36’W & 27°31’N and from 78°43’W & 27°41-42’N to 78°46’W & 27°53-54’N to 78°54’W & 28°13-14’N. Towards Matanilla Reef, some good chances for fishing action are also likely to happen where we observed favorable conditions for two days now over the 10-100 fathom ledge near 78°46’W & 27°23’N. Farther westward, good chances for tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and billfish action occur where we observed favorable blue water conditions for two days now over the 10-100 fathom ledges towards Middle Shoal and Matanilla Shoal near 78°58-59’W & 27°25’N and 79°02’W & 27°24’N.
