A letter from Mr Stevens
Hello everyone!
Most of you should know me, but if you don’t, my name is Mr
Stevens and my job at Rodillian is Assistant SENDCo, which is a fancy
name, but it means that I look after the students who need a little
extra help with their school experience. I do this by running a team in school called the
SEND department with a few other teachers: Miss Glover, Mr Niyoni, Miss Twitchett and
Miss Laycock. We help in a number of ways: it could be helping someone with their reading
or spelling, it could be helping someone with their Maths, it could be helping someone with
their emotional health or their friendships or helping someone just get used to their new
school or many other things.
We know that returning to school is a worrying and very strange experience at the best of
times but this year it is particularly challenging.
Please believe us that we are trying our hardest, and will continue to try our best, to make
this time as stress free as possible and we are hoping that you will settle back with us
quickly. As you will know, we have been waiting for the government to give us some more
information so that we could figure out what school and SEND support will look like in
September - now that we have that information I am happy to share this with you. There
are lots of changes to our ‘normal way of working’ but hopefully this booklet will go some
way to reassuring you that Rodillian will be safe.
When we return in September, things might seem a little hectic but I will be available to
meet with your parents to talk through any concerns and to try and support you in the best
way possible.
Miss Bradley, Mr Percival and the school Senior Leadership Team have already sent out lots
of information but I have made this booklet for you, SEND students, to have a read of with
your parents/carers so that you can start to get to get a picture of what Rodillian will look
like in September and what is going to happen at our school. If you are feeling nervous or
have any questions, please send me an email and I will get back to you as quick as possible.
Take care, stay safe,
Mr Stevens

Pictures of the school
Now you know the layout of the school, here are some pictures of what you
can expect the school to look like. Some places look different because of the
virus but don’t worry, it won’t be too different!
This is the MAIN ENTRANCE to
the school, but each year group
will have their own entrance due
to the COVID restrictions.
This is the STUDENT SERVICES if you
need to buy new equipment, call home,
need first aid or you need some help this
is the place to go. Students Services is
next to the MAIN ENTRANCE in

OPEN - EQUIPMENT WILL BE AVAILABLE
IN YOUR PODS EACH MORNING.
This is THE POD; this is where your
parent/carers will sign in if they need to
come into school the Pod is next to the

During break students can be in the Dining Hall, the Courtyard or the library. At
lunch time students can be in the Dining Hall or the Courtyard. The library is
also used for lessons- you might have that on your timetable. DUE TO COVID,
BREAKS WILL EITHER BE AT THE FRONT OF SCHOOL OR IN THE COURTYARD.
LUNCH WILL BE IN THE CANTEEN BUT THERE WILL BE NOT TABLES OR CHAIRS
TO HELP WITH KEEPING THE CANTEEN CLEAN.
There are lots of toilets around the school, one set on each corridor, so you won’t have
to travel far to find a toilet. IN YOUR PODS YOU WILL HAVE YOUR TOILETS FOR YOUR
YEAR GROUP.

What does the school day normally look like?
School timetable
A school day in September is going to look very different, and we will get to
that but here is a reminder of what our normal school day looks like. The
school day starts at 8:25 and finishes at 2:30. Each of your lessons last for 50
minutes. Period 5 is a little bit different as it is split into three 25 minute
sections, so that the year groups can be split across the lunchtime.
Break time
Break time at Rodillian is just 15 minutes long, before heading back to your
next lesson. This is a time for you to see your friends and talk to them. You can
also bring a snack with you to eat. Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot offer
food to buy at break. Due to COVID, each year group will have their break time
in a specific space - this is explained in your year group section of this booklet.
Lunch time
Lunch time at Rodillian is just 25 minutes long before heading back to continue
your fifth lesson. Again, this is a time for you to see your friends and talk to
them. You can bring your own lunch or you can get a meal from school. There
are all sorts of food that you can buy from school at lunch time including pizza,
sandwiches, baguettes, salad pot and pasta pots as well as fully cooked meals
like curries, stews and my favourite fish and chip Friday. You can spend your
lunchtime in the canteen or outside on the courtyard. Due to COVID, each year
group will have their break time in a specific space - this is explained in your
year group section of this booklet.
Form time 8:25-8:45
Period 1 8:45-9:35
Period 2 9:35-10:25
Period 3 10:25-11:15
Break 11:15-11:35
Period 4 11:35-12:25
Period 5A (Year 8 and 9 lunch) 12:25-12:50
Period 5B (Year 7 lunch) 12:50-1:15
Period 5C (Year 10 and 11 lunch) 1:15-1:40
Period 6 1:40-2:30

Your timetable
Timetable example
This might look very confusing - don’t worry!!! Your teachers will help you to
understand it when you get here! But here is a what it means.
On your first few days with us, some of you will come and see me and my team
and look at your timetable and we will help you to understand your timetable.
Again, this will look different in September and timetables will be explained on
your first day.
16
Uniform
At Rodillian, it is very important that you wear your uniform and look smart.
Here is our day to day uniform.
If your parents need to know where to buy the uniform, it is on the school
website.
17
Equipment
Here is a list of all the equipment you will need at Rodillian. Why not tick it off
the list when you have got it?
18
COVID Information
Obviously, due to the current global pandemic we are having to make certain
changes to the way school is going to run; here is a very quick run-down of
some of the changes:
The school is going to be broken down into ‘bubbles’ and ‘pods’. At
Rodillian, your bubble is your year group and your pod is where you will
be based in school. These bubbles will be kept separate at all times and
students will not be allowed to cross into different pods.
Each bubble will have their own specific area for learning, their own
toilets and their very own entrance into the building. These are all
explained in the year group specific information (page 19 onwards).
Breaks and lunchtimes will be at different times to normal. Each year
group will have their own time and might have their break in a different
area. Breaks will either be in the courtyard or at the front of school on
the netball courts; whilst lunchtimes will all be in the canteen. For details
of timings, please check the year group specific information (page……
onwards).
Hand sanitisers will be placed at every entrance, outside each block of
toilets and at the entrance of each classroom.
In each lesson, there will be, as normal, a seating plan and a specific seat
for you to be sat in.
Classrooms will be changed from their usual set-up. Where possible,
classrooms will be set out so that tables and chairs will face towards the
front of class.
19
Year Group Specific information
I have tried to include all relevant information in this section but I imagine you
might still have questions to ask - please feel free to email me at
In this section we will tell you all about what school will be like for your year
group and give you some really important information. The information
includes:
Changes to the regular school times - the start, end and social times for
students will be different to normal to allow bubbles to stay distanced.
How you will enter the building - each year group will have their own
pathway and entrance to the building and students will only be able to
enter school through that entrance.
Where in school your bubble/pod will be - each year group will have
their own corridor and set of classrooms to use.
Where your toilets are - each year group will have their own specific
block of toilets to use.
When you will actually come back to school - each year group will have
their own return schedule.
