COLLEGE FAIRS OPEN HOUSES INFORMATION SESSIONS

Morgan State University in Baltimore will host their Multi-Cultural Open House on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Students and their families will tour the campus, attend bilingual workshops, and receive information on the college application process, financial aid and the Maryland Dream Act. Light appetizers and refreshments will also be served.

Bridgewater College, located in Bridgewater Virginia, will host Open House events on Saturday February 8 th and March 1 st . Please register online to attend these events at www.bridgewater.edu/visitcampus .

Loyola University will host the following “Saturday at Loyola” Open House Events: Feb. 15 th / March 15 th / April 26 th Students and their families will hear from Admissions Officers and students about life at Loyola. *****The 2014 HBCU College Fair will take place on February 19, 2014, at Richard Montgomery High School from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with a snow date of February 20 th . On the Spot Admission Interviews will begin promptly at 4:30 pm. This Fair is open to all Students grades 9 – 12. Seniors wishing to participate in the “On The Spot Interviews must contact Ms. Harris ASAP for further information. Seniors will not have to pay any application fees and those students who are accepted may also receive scholarship offers at that time. Frostburg State University / Department of Music will host their “Student for a Day” Program on April 8 th for students wishing to experience life as a music major. They will see the curriculum and participate in classes as if they were a current music major. They will also receive a Free music lesson from a Music Faculty member, speak with admissions and financial aid representatives and tour the campus during their visit. .

NEW Scholarships for the 2014 Academic Year

The "I Empower" Scholarship Fund sponsored by the Greater Washington Urban League / Thursday Network, will award a scholarship in the amount of $2,000 to a graduating high school senior wishing to attend any accredited 4 year college or university of their choice. Applicants must also have a minimum 2.5 GPA, with a commitment to community service, and demonstrate financial need. Students must complete and supply 3 copies of all application materials which must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2014. Applications are available in the Career Center.

The University of Dayton has announced their 2014 Leadership in Service Scholarship for an incoming freshman. If interested in being nominated for this $10,000 scholarship ($2500 a year for 4 years) see Ms. Harris or your counselor ASAP. Only One student may be nominated per school. All nominations must be received by January 31, 2014.

The Princeton Prize in Race Relations is recognizing students who are improving race relations in their schools and communities. They will be awarding up to $1,000 cash for winners in this contest. Winners will also be invited to attend an expense paid weekend to Princeton University to participate in a weekend symposium on race. The Montgomery College Macklin Business Institute Scholars Program is accepting applications online at www.montgomerycollege.edu/macklin . This scholarship will cover the cost of tuition for two full years at Montgomery College. Paper applications are also available in the Career Center. SCAD/ The University for Creative Careers has announced their 2013-2014 Scholarship Competition and deadline dates for submission:Junior Challenge: 2-D and Photography Feb. 7, 2014For further information visit their website at www.scad.edu/scadchallenge .

The American Society of Military Comptrollers/ Washington Chapter has announced their 2014 Student Award Program for graduating high school seniors, planning on entering a field of study related to financial operations; e.g., finance, accounting, economics, business administration, public administration, operations research or other related field. Membership in the ASMC is Not required. The minimum amount of this scholarship is $1,000 with a possibility of an additional one time $2,000 award. Applications must be completed and submitted with 3 letters of recommendation, an official transcript and a copy of the SAT or ACT scores. The Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship & Principals Award is now accepting high school nominations for this special scholarship. Rockville has been asked to Nominate One senior for this scholarship. Those wishing to be nominated for this scholarship must be able to demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities, academic performance and community service. Scholarship awards will vary from $2,000, $5,000, $8,500 or $12,000. Again, only one student can be Nominated from Rockville for this scholarship. So please contact your counselor as soon as possible to express your interest in being nominated. All nominations and documents must be received by February 8, 2014.

The Ivy Vine Charities is now accepting applications for their 2014 Scholarship program. This scholarship opportunity is available to all graduating seniors planning on attending a four year college or university or Montgomery Community College. Applicants must have a minimum 2.7 GPA and have been active in school and community activities. Scholarship Awards will vary, and will be awarded in the following categories; $500 Book Awards; $1,000 Scholarship for a Montgomery

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has announced their 2014 Scholarship Program which is open to all high school seniors planning on attending a two or four year college or university. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked by February 13, 2014.

The Maryland Farm Bureau 2014 Scholarship Application is now available to high school seniors enrolling in college in the fall or any college student currently enrolled in a community college or four-year institution. Applicants or their parents/ guardians Must be members of the Maryland Farm Bureau in order to apply. Seven of the ten $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to agricultural curriculum majors and three will be awarded to non-agricultural or agricultural curriculum majors. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be received along with any other requested documents by email no later than 4:00pm, February 13, 2014.

The Clyde G. Nora Memorial Foundation has announced their 2014 Scholarship Award opportunity for high school seniors as well as college undergraduates. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of leadership qualities, community and school involvement, academic performance and their ability to express their thoughts in writing. The recipient of this $1,500 scholarship will also receive a Merit Achievement Plaque Award as well. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked by February 18, 2014.

The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has announced their 2014 Paul Robeson Scholarship opportunity for African American males planning on attending a college or university. Scholarship amounts have varied from $1,000 - $2,500 in the past. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be received by February 28, 2014.

The Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP) has announced the 2014 Ken Mann Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is open to high school seniors planning on pursuing a career as an elementary school teacher at a college or university in the state of Maryland. Applications are available and can be completed online at www.wcps.k12.md.us . Click on “Our Schools” Click on “Elementary”. Scroll down to “Lincolnshire Elementary” and click on “More info” Look for Downloadable Resources and click on “Ken Mann Scholarship Information and Application”. The Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association / NOVA Scholarship Committee has announced their 2-14 Scholarship Awards. Opportunity for students planning on pursuing advanced degrees in Information/Technology; Engineering; Math; pure Natural/Physical Sciences and or other technology-related fields supportive of our National Security. This scholarship is largely merit –based but financial need may also be a contributing factor. The Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarship is available for high school seniors planning on attending college and pursuing a degree in Business or Education. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and have a demonstrated financial need. This scholarship award will be $1,000 and may possibly be renewed. The Xi Sigma Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, will be awarding the Golden Soror Scholarship for students who plan on attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU); The Ola Carter Berry Scholarship, which is need-based will be awarded and the recipient may attend Any college or university; and the final scholarship is the Bernadine M. Pindell Scholarship which will be given to students majoring in mathematics. These scholarships will be awarded at $1,000 each. Additionally the Sorority will offer Book Awards in the amount of $500 for the Clive Jackson, Beatrice Crutchfield, and Ola Berry Scholarships. All applications must be received by March 1, 2014 and are available in the Career Center.

The Polish Heritage Association of Maryland, INC. has announced their 2014 Scholarship Grants to high school seniors, planning on attending an accredited college or university, have at least two Polish ancestors, and are legal residents of Maryland. Selections will primarily be made on financial need, academic standing, leadership potential and the student’s pride in their Polish Heritage. Applications are available online at www.pha-md.org , and must be completed/postmarked by March 1, 2014.

The Air Force Officer’s Wives Club of Washington, D.C. is offering merit based scholarships to graduating high school seniors planning on attending a college or university. Applicants must be a legal dependent child of an active duty, reserve, guard, retired, MIA/POW, deceased officer or enlisted member of the United States Air Force. Applicants must have a minimum 3.25 GPA. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be post marked no later than March 3, 2014.

The Bernie Scholarship Awards Program is available for high school seniors whose families receive housing assistance from The Housing Opportunities Commission, Edgewood Management Corporation, Scotland Community or the Rockville Housing Enterprises. Applicants must be a graduating senior with a minimum 2.0 GPA, planning on attending college or a vocational school. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be postmarked no later than March 17, 2014. For further information, visit their website at www.berniescholarships .

The Montgomery County Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, INC. has announced their 2014 Scholarship opportunity for all graduating seniors who have excelled academically and contributed to the improvement of their community. Applicants must be a resident of Montgomery County, enroll in a two year community college, vocational or trade school, or a four year college or university, and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. The maximum amount of this scholarship is $5,000. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be completed and received by March 19, 2014.

The 2014 McDonald’s Educates Scholarship is now available. Applicants must have be a high school senior planning on attending a college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students should have served in leadership positions in the school, church or community organizations as well as volunteered to help those in their communities. Applications are available online http://www.McDonaldsEducates.com or in the Career Center and must be completed by March 21, 2014.

The Masonic Charities of Maryland has announced their 2014 Masonic Educational Grant. To be eligible, students must be a high school graduating senior who are U.S. citizens and a resident of the State of Maryland. Applicants are not required to have an affiliation with the Masonic Organization or be a member of any religious denomination. The $500 Grant can be used at any two year, four year college/university or vocational institution. Applications are available in the Career Center and are Not to be mailed to the organization. All applications must be completed and returned to Ms. Harris in the Career Center no later than March 31, 2014.

The Esperanza Education Fund will award scholarships of at least $5,000 up to $20,000 to students who were born outside of the United States or have two parents who were born outside of the United States, and are graduating seniors and plan to enroll full time at an accredited public college or university; regardless of their ethnicity, national origin or immigration status. Applications are available only online at www.esperanzafund.org/scholarship and must be completed by April 1, 2014. There will be two application tip sessions on February 1, at 11:00am at the DC Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library located at 4450 Wisconsin Avenue, NW Washington, DC and March 15 at 3:15 at the Central Library, located at 1015 N. Quincy Street, Arlington, VA. 22201.

The Clare and Robert Moore Scholarship Fund has announced their $1,000 scholarship to an incoming first year student who has been accepted and plans on majoring in English at Notre Dame of Maryland University. Applications are available online at http://crmoorescholarship.org/ and must be received by April 15, 2014.

The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will be awarding their Ira Dorsey Scholarship to a Male graduating senior in recognition of their academic excellence and contributions to their school and community. This is a one-time $1,500 scholarship and will be paid to any 4 year college or university. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be post marked no later than Friday, May 16, 2014.

Senator Roger Manno has announced the opening of his 2014 Scholarship Awards for students residing in the 19 th legislative district. These scholarships will be awarded to students without and with special needs. Special needs are those applicants with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), autism, learning disabilities, emotional or behavioral, mental health challenges, developmental delays or other special needs. Applicants must be a senior planning on enrolling in a college or university, professional or trade school in the state of Maryland. Applicants may

The 2013-2014 SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes is available to high school seniors planning on attending a college or university. Eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need. There is no purchase necessary to enter or win this $1,000 scholarship. One winner will be chosen every two weeks up until May, 2014. The Herb Block Scholarship is available for students planning on attending a community college in the DC Metro area. This scholarship will provide up to $8,000 per academic year and or up or $16,000 over the life of the scholarship. This scholarship recognizes high achievers and students with financial need. Students wishing to apply for the fall semester must apply by July 7 th and those planning on attending the spring semester must apply by November 10 th . George Mason University has announced their Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program for high school students to gain hands on experience in laboratories at the Prince William and Fairfax campuses of George Mason University.
