Maldon Cricket Club, Drapers farm, Drapers chase, heybridge, ESSEX

David Randall passed away on Friday 6 July 2012, aged just 27, following a 14-month battle with cancer.

The Rock Up For Randall event will not only celebrate

David’s life but also raise as much money as possible for the

newly created David Randall Foundation. The Foundation

aims to help dedicated and ambitious youngsters fulfil their

dreams and potential and also support young people fighting

illness (see overleaf for more details).

Our intention for the day is to host a youth cricket match

and a pro/celebrity 25-over cricket match followed

by live music in the evening.

Your attendance and participation on the day would make

a huge difference to those young people that will

benefit from the David Randall Foundation.

David Randall Foundation Inspirational

Rock Up For Randall will raise money for the newly established David Randall Foundation. Due to the recentness of David’s death, this foundation is yet to be fully established and the money raised through Rock Up For Randall and funeral donations will form the starting point for what we hope will be a long established, successful and influential charity. It is envisaged that the David Randall Foundation will provide support to determined, inspirational people in order to give them the opportunity to fulfil their potential and live life to the full. Financial support from the foundation will be offered to those who demonstrate exceptional dedication and passion in pursuing their ambitions, but who are held back by financial constraints, or to people fighting illness for whom extra financial support would make a real difference. Both in illness and in health David provided an inspirational example to others. Blessed with effortless natural talent in many fields he was none the less humble and gracious, pursuing the activities he loved for the joy and passion he felt for them, rather than for the glory or adulation that may result from having taken part. When struck by illness David’s qualities shone through even more strongly. He bore the illness with incredible equanimity and bravery - never once complaining or asking ‘why me?’ and whilst battling to enjoy life until the very end he faced the inevitable outcome with a calm acceptance which demonstrated an amazing lack of self-importance or entitlement. Through the David Randall Foundation it is hoped that such qualities will be encouraged in others whilst they pursue their ambitions and that David may continue to inspire and encourage others for generations to come.
