Most of us weren’t taught effective money management skills much less healthy beliefs about money and possessions. We “caught” what our parents actually did, and formed our financial beliefs based on the consumer-driven messages of the culture. No wonder the average American consistently cites money, the economy, and work as their top three causes of stress. “Everything About Money” is a course on biblical stewardship and effective money management based on the timeless principles and practices found in the pages of Scripture.

You may or may not hold a high view of the Bible. You may or may not profess to be a Christian. Whether you are a believer, a skeptic, an agnostic, or simply unsure of what to believe, the financial wisdom found in the pages of Scripture is incredibly practical and easily proven. We invite you to suspend judgment until you’ve had an opportunity to apply the principles and practices taught in this course. We’re confident you’ll discover what countless others have already discovered – Biblical principles are in fact true, powerful, and liberating!

This course material is the result of years of my own study together with reading and listening to incredibly gifted authors and speakers in the area of Biblical finance. I’ve been the beneficiary of their skills in exegesis (critical explanation or interpretation of the biblical text), and exposition (preaching that throws light upon the meaning of a particular text or passage of Scripture), and their practical applications. I owe much to their faithful service to the Kingdom.

Through years of teaching and counseling using these principles, I’ve constantly (continually) revised and improved the content as a result of feedback from actual students and continuing personal study in hopes of providing the most Biblically-sound and effective material possible. While I believe the doctrine presented in this book is true to sound Biblical teaching, I am nevertheless fallible and certainly subject to error. If you happen to prayerfully disagree with how I’ve presented Biblical truth, or any other aspect of the content, please email me and explain. My heart’s desire is to get it right and teach it right.

In addition to the space provided for your own response to the questions posed at the end of each session, there is space allotted for “fill-in” answers scattered throughout the book. This approach is intended to aid the student in tracking with the presentation. If you need to lookup the responses for any reason, simply reference the number preceeding the fill-in blank to Appendix A which contains all the Fill-In answers. For example:

This course contains 27 individual sessions each covering a different topic. Each session builds on the foundation of the prior material, so it’s important to take them in sequence. Each session consists of a 15-25 minute presentation followed by a time for group discussion or individual reflection.

Taking the course as part of a group is THE most effective way to reap the maximum benefit. We learn better in community, and we certainly grow more as part of a community. More on that in Session 5!

If you are a taking this course as part of a group, keep the following keys in mind to maximize the experience:

1. Show up! - As your group builds chemistry, your absence will negatively impact the group members, so show up!

2. Participate! - The class is best taught in circles, not rows. By that we mean that there will be plenty of opportunity for you to join the discussion at your table around the material. You will get the most out of the course when you engage with your fellow students.

3. Be Respectful! - Our personal finances are just that – personal. Keep your table’s discussion confidential. Show your group the respect each member deserves.

4. Be Comfortable! - You are free to keep your finances private or share details as you decide. No pressure! No expectations! However, we know from experience that transparency is healthy, builds real community, and accelerates the learning process.

5. Be Deferential! - Make sure you participate, not dominate the conversation. Our group discussions are limited by time. Be respectful so everyone who wants to share gets the opportunity.

6. Be Prayerful! - Whether you realize it or not, you will be in a spiritual battle. Broken finances are one of the enemy’s chief means to attack us. Bathe your entire experience in prayer – for yourself and your tablemates.
