material located INSIDE the earth
– Lava: molten material located OUTSIDE the earth

Metamorphic Rocks
• Created inside the earth through HEAT and pressure
• Mineral grains are flat and aligned
• All rocks (sedimentary, igneous and/or metamorphic) can become metamorphic rocks under the right conditions
