A huge “thank you” to Mrs. Slavens and the Book Fair committee for all of their hard work. Through their hard work and creative efforts they continued to instill a love of books and reading to our students. Kudos to all those involved, and thank you to our parents for supporting the book fair, which, ultimately, puts more books in our school’s library and students’ hands. We also had a great K.I.S.S. Day in March. A special thanks to Angie Tackett and the K.I.S.S. Day committee for bringing a memorable day to our community. The kindergarten, MH, 1st grade and 2nd grade classes welcomed their special persons to our school with a program from Mr. Wilson. Thanks to our parents, we were able to treat all of our special guests with lemonade and cookies. Robinwood PTA hopes that everyone enjoyed the special day! Lastly, I would like to thank Judy DeJoseph for a great Family Movie Night. For the past several years, Judy has done a fantastic job organizing a special night for our Robinwood families, and this year’s showing of “Big Hero 6” was no exception. Thanks, Judy! As we move into April, Robinwood Lane PTA has some very important business to finish. Due to a lack of participation, we have had to delay our election of next year’s officers. We have individuals who have graciously accepted nominations for several offices: Jan Johnson, 2nd VP; Stephanie Gottberg, recording secretary; Adrienne DeRosa, treasurer; Shannon Holdridge, historian. However, we are still searching for individuals who can commit to the offices of president and 1st vice-president. Without a president, Robinwood will not have a functioning PTA. We are also in need of individuals to chair committees. As I have mentioned previously, we have a great group of 4th grade parents who will be leaving Robinwood at the end of the school year. It is imperative that we have new parents become involved and fill the void left by the departure of these 4th grade parents. We cannot continue to support our students, teachers and building without an increase in participation, and some activities may need to be suspended in order to be manageable for those who do participate. Our current officers want nothing more than the continued success of our building and PTA, and are more than willing to guide and answer questions that may arise. Please contact Yvonne Ams or Shannon Holdridge if you have questions. I hope you all have a great spring break and return to school rejuvenated and ready to finish the school year! I hope to see you at our next meeting, April 21st at 9:00 a.m. in the building’s art room. Shannon Holdridge Shannon Holdridge Shannon Holdridge Shannon Holdridge

Dear Parents;

End of the year (EOY) PARCC and State Testing is the end of April. These tests measure your child’s academic progress and achievement for the 2014-2015 school year. You can help your child and our school by making sure they have a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a positive message from you to do their best and show what they know.

The Third Grade Reading Guarantee (TGRG) is state law. It requires every third grade student in the state to pass a reading test by the end of the third grade year in order to move to the next grade at the end of the year. Grade 3 students have five chances to take a state reading test per year (October, March, April, May and in the Summer). 75% of our third grade students passed the test in October 2014. We believe the others will pass sometime this spring.

GRADE 3 GRADE 4 Tues., Apr. 21 – State Reading test - OAA Wed., Apr. 22 – Reading 1 Mon., Apr. 27 – Math 1 Fri., Apr. 24 – Reading 2 Wed., Apr. 29 -- Math 2 Tues., Apr. 28 – Math 1 Thurs., Apr. 30 – Math 2 Tues., May 5 – Social Studies

Retirements - As we get closer to the end of the school year, I wanted to let you know about two staff members who are retiring at the end of the school year.

Mr. Dean Wilson has taught music in the Boardman Schools his entire career. He has a love of music that is shared every day, and he gets great satisfaction sharing that love with our students. He typifies everything a great teacher should be, and we will all miss

him.

Mrs. Carol Bonte has been the school secretary for the past 19 years. Prior to that, she served Robinwood as the school nurse for many years. Her love of this school, its staff, and its students is boundless. Her dedication, hard work, willingness to go above and beyond, and sage counsel will be missed. She promises to still be around our school as a substitute aide, secretary, and nurse. We will miss her very much.

Our new school secretary will be Mrs. Cheryl Dutko, beginning in August 2015. Her kids have all graduated from Robinwood Lane School, and she was PTA President for two years here. She understands our school, its history and traditions, and its high expectations. Mrs. Dutko is currently the independent computer aide, teaching computer skills, at Stadium Drive Elementary School. I welcome her to our school staff.

As always, if I can help you or your child in any way, please call.

Welcome to Spring! We sure hope that you had a safe, healthy, and happy Easter break. The children have been working very hard so far this year. It’s hard to believe that the first three nine weeks are over and that we are now in the last grading period of the year. Most of the children now know all of the letters and sounds, can sound out

CVC words, and can read many sight words. They can write a simple sentence using capitalization, punctuation, and spaces between words. They are capable of rereading what they wrote to ensure that it makes sense. In math most children are very good at rote counting and counting objects. This month we will continue to improve our writing skills, finish the rest of the letters of the alphabet, and continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts. The children will become much more proficient at higher order thinking skills where they will have to tell how they got their answers. They will also continue to read short stories and have discussions about what they read. Please continue to reinforce at home the skills taught in class. Together we can ensure that your children will be very successful learners. Thanks for all of your cooperation and support.

It's hard to believe Spring is here and we are in our last grading period of this school year! Spring Break begins on Friday, April 3rd and classes resume on Monday, April 13th. On Thursday, April 2nd, first graders will be attending a field trip at the BPAC to see the middle school orchestra concert. Also on April 2nd, first grade teachers will be having an egg hunt for the students. Thank you for donating candy and plastic eggs! In Reading, first graders are continuing their guided reading groups. They are moving up in their Rigby reading levels and we are very proud of

them! Please continue to complete Home Reading 3-4 times per week! This is a great way to help your child increase their reading level. We are finishing up the "bossy r" sound in spelling, and we will be working on irregular vowel combinations. In Math, we have finished up our study of measurement, and we will be working on time to the hour and half hour. We are still working on addition flashcards and timed tests. We will soon begin subtraction flashcards. You child will bring each set of flashcards home as they pass the 1 1/2 minute timed tests. Please continue to practice flashcards on a daily basis! We would just like to thank everyone who took part in K.I.S.S. Day in March. Our PTA once again did a great job setting up this special day for us. We would also like to thank Mr. Wilson for the singing show in the Gym! We loved having our special friends visit and we'd like to say thank you for coming!

We wish everyone a Happy Easter Happy Easter Happy Easter Happy Easter and as always, thank you for

your support. We are proud of all the progress these first graders have made so far this year!

Spring has sprung! As the weather continues to improve, we know that Spring Fever can set in. Please don’t forget to practice math facts and spelling words on a daily basis. All students should be reading every day, as well, because the only way to become a better reader is by reading! We appreciate all the support and help you provide at home. Thank you! It is hard to believe that we are already in the last grading period of the year. Report cards were mailed home the week of March 30. They no longer need to be signed and returned, so they are yours to keep. If you have any questions/concerns regarding your child’s progress, do not hesitate to contact us. Encourage your child to keep doing their best so that they can finish the school year strong! The end of the year Reading and Math Achievement Tests are quickly approaching. The Reading Ohio Achievement Test will be administered on Tuesday, April 21 while the PARCC Math test will be given on Monday, April 27 and Wednesday, April 29. When we return back to school from our Spring Break, we will have just a short time to prepare for these Big Tests. This is a time for the students to finally shine and show what they know. They have worked hard and prepared for this day and we are proud to see so much growth! Please help your child receive adequate sleep and eat a good breakfast before each testing day. Thank you! Finally, ENJOY your Spring Break with your family and friends.

We hope everyone has a relaxing and sunny spring break! When we come back, second grade will be working hard to prepare for our final benchmark assessment on the STAR reading and math tests. Our math common core curriculum will now focus on drawing circles and rectangles, dividing them into equal parts and naming the fraction (up to fourths). We will also begin to use arrays and repeated addition to understand multiplication. In addition, we will review adding and subtracting with regrouping, counting money, shapes and their attributes, and measurement. We will continue to read both fiction and non-fiction texts in reading and use these texts to understand the author's point of view, author's purpose, and character traits of the main characters in the story. As you read with your child, stop them frequently to ask questions to gauge their understanding. Thanks for all you do to help your child be successful!

Spring is coming and the weather will begin to get warmer. Please do not forget to continue practicing math facts, spelling words, and daily reading. Also, please continue to check your child’s planner nightly. This is a very educational tool. The second round of the PARCC Testing is quickly approaching. These will be administered starting the week of April 20th. When we get back from Spring Break, you will start to notice a push to prepare the students for these assessments. It is very important that your child gets plenty of rest during this week. We also stress supporting your child by keeping him or her positive during this time. All we ask is that each child work hard and do his or her best. It is hard to believe we are in the last grade period. Our students have already had the opportunity to observe the band, interact with the orchestra, and hear the chorus which helped in making their music selection for the middle school. All of this was a great introduction to their next four years of education. We look forward to our annual tour of both Glenwood and Center in May. We would like to thank Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Zorman for preparing the chorus for their concert titled “Lights, Camera, Action.” It was a fantastic show. The chorus not only performed for family and friends in March, but will travel during April to take the show on the road. They will be visiting Greenbriar Retirement Home on Tuesday, April 14th and West Blvd. Elementary School on April 16th. Finally, we hope all of you have a wonderful Spring Break filled with time spent with family and friends. Hopefully, all of you got some well needed time outdoors after the winter we went through. It has been a long time coming.

I am so excited! We will start our Handel’s Fundraiser May 1st – May 14th.

Handel’s Pint Card FundraiserHandel’s Pint Card FundraiserHandel’s Pint Card FundraiserHandel’s Pint Card Fundraiser

What: Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream

& Yogurt Pint Card Fundraiser.

When: May 1, 2015 through May 14, 2015

Who: All the Handel’s Lovers of Robinwood Lane

Elementary

Why: To Raise Money for the School by Selling the Best Ice

Cream in Town.

Dear Parents: Robinwood Lane Elementary and Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt are teaming up to raise money by selling pint cards good toward everybody’s favorite ice cream! We are very excited about this new fundraising opportunity and hope you find it as appealing as we do. We will be selling Handel’s pint cards. Each pint card is good for one pint of any flavored ice cream at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt. Each pint card will be sold for $4.15, the actual retail value. Your cost for each pint is $2.50. Our school will profit $1.65 on each pint card sold. Selling Handel’s Ice Cream should not be difficult for it’s something everybody loves.

An order form will be sent home that will be used to sell the pint cards. Students are to sell the pint cards and receive the money up front. The more the students sell, the greater the profitability for the school. We are looking to develop fundraisers that are of minimal effort on the parents but of maximum profit for the school. Students can sell the pint cards to friends, family, neighbors…basically anyone who loves ice cream. We hope all of you find this fundraising idea as exciting as we do. We know with a little hard work, the profits can be substantial. We would like to thank you in advance for all your efforts to support our school. We know that it is not easy to find time to participate in fundraisings efforts after all the tasks of the day have been completed. We are extremely grateful for all your past support and we hope that you can find the time and the energy to promote this fundraiser as well. Last year with Box Tops and the Handel’s sales, I was able to purchase 7 I-pads and cases. Also, remember to order your Market Day! Enjoy your Easter Break! Sincerely,

Mrs. Kim Gorski Mrs. Kim Gorski Mrs. Kim Gorski Mrs. Kim Gorski

Spring is finally here!! That means warm weather is just around the corner. The students are so anxious to have gym class outside and play outdoor games. Once the weather gets warmer, we will begin our baseball, softball, and kickball units. We will work on different skills and then play outside on the field. Please have your children dressed appropriately for gym class and the Spring weather! A light jacket may be needed for cooler weather. We may go outside as the temperature goes up! Again, a huge congratulation goes out to those students and staff that contributed to Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser. Our school’s final total was $8094.00. The American Heart Association is very thankful for our generous donations. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Congratulations to Room 19, Mrs. Koch’s class, for earning the Golden

Sneaker Award for the month of March! Keep up the great work Room 19!!!

Jen Flores (Physical Education Teacher)

HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE! I honestly was beginning to doubt whether I was ever going to get to say that wonderful phrase again. It sure seemed like the winter of 2015 was never going to end! Anyway, now we get to look forward to warm weather, doors and windows open, and beautiful spring flowers! I am SO ready! I am also ready to give you a positive report on our March book fair. What a wonderful turn out we had for our Family Night! I did some figuring and discovered that we had 42% of our students come to this special night. This percentage is just awesome. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did (I’m a squid, LOL). It is so satisfying when I am in the library and I hear our students walking down the hallway, and I hear comments such as,”Oh, WOW! The book fair is the best!” or “I can’t wait to get this book!” or “I gotta come to family night!” Sometimes it even makes me think that

maybe, just maybe, my love of books is rubbing off! I have been telling all the students my three reasons for continuing the book fair tradition at Robinwood. First, and most importantly, I want the kids to have FUN!!! Therefore, the emphasis on a theme, and all the activities and decorations to go with it!!! Second, my goal is to get more books into these wonderful students’ hands …and Third, I hope to raise funds to purchase the newest books on the market for our library to be read and enjoyed by everyone. Anyway, I am very happy to report that the profit from this book fair amounted to $2,707.22 with $793.76 of that amount being issued to our Scholastic account in Scholastic dollars. This means I will be purchasing almost $800.00 of Scholastic books for our library. The rest will be used for new books and supplies as well. What an awesome amount for a school of less than 400 students! I applaud each one of you for making books and reading a top priority for your child.

Keep on Reading,
