    Literacy Plan

    Feedback

Directions are followed completely and accurately _X_Yes __No (Check one)Evidence Exceeds

    Criteria

Sufficient Evidence to Meet Criteria Minimal Evidence to

    Meet Criteria

    Areas to Further Develop

Evidence of going beyond: Criterion 1:

You begin your plan with a clearly articulated

personal philosophy about literacy teaching and

learning for children in the fourth grade

    classroom.

You accurately identify and explain the

theorists/theories upon which it is based.

    (Vygotsky and Constructivism)

Connections between theory and practice are

clearly evident throughout your plan, classroom

    design, and reflection.

Course Goal 2; EA Conceptualization, WTS 1

Evidence: You allude to scaffolding in this

    piece. Think through a little

    more about how scaffolding

    helps to build responsibility.

Evidence of going beyond: Criterion 2:

Your summary accurately describes the range of

reading and writing behaviors of students in a

fourth grade classroom. It reflects a solid

understanding of the appropriate use of

    development continuumsto describe the range

of reading and writing behaviorsin a diverse

    fourth grade classroom.

    Course Goal 5;EA Conceptualization, Diagnosis;

    WTS 1, 8

    Evidence: Areas to Further Develop:

    Would you find many Emergent

    readers/writers in your fourth

    grade? How about Advanced?

    2/3

    Evidence of going beyond:

    You provide a detailed

    chart that explains a large

    number of reading andwriting

    concepts/strategies

    appropriate for the diverse

    learners in your fourth

    grade classroom. You

    include instructional

    strategies you would use to

    teach these

    concepts/strategies.

    Criterion 3: a, b, c, d:

The role of the teacher clearly translates the

    philosophy into specific classroom practice.

    This practice demonstrates an solid

understanding of literacy practices in the

    following areas:

    a. AssessmentsYou provide a chart of assessments that are

appropriate for meeting the diverse needs of the

students in a fourth grade classroom.

You articulate a clear understanding of the

relationship between assessment and instruction.Course Goal 3; EA Conceptualization, Diagnosis,

    WTS 1, 8

    b. Concepts/Strategies:Course Goal 2, 4; EA Conceptualization, Diagnosis;

    WTS 1, 8c. Instructional components:

Most of the components of literacy instruction

are accurately described and show a clear

understanding of the purpose and an

understanding of the relationship between the

role of the teacher, student and the

    environment.Course Goal 1, 2, 4, 5EA Conceptualization,Diagnosis; WTS 1, 8

    Evidence:

    Your description of shared

    reading seems more

    appropriate for an early

    primary classroom.

    Materials and/or genre are

    minimally addressed.

    Areas to Further Develop:

    Think about how you would

    assess the quality of the

    thinking on these assessments.

Think also about how you would

    record the interactions duringconferences, etc.

Evidence of going beyond: Criterion 4The classroom design/floor plan supports the

philosophy and instruction described in the

written plan. You make clear connections to the

Constructivist Theory and to some of the

components of balanced literacy. You articulate

an understanding of the role the environment as

    it relates to your philosophy.Course Goal 1, 6; EA Conceptualization, Diagnosis;

    WTS 1, 8, 9

    Evidence: Areas to Further Develop:

    How does Vygotskian Theory

    relate to your classroom design?

Evidence of going beyond: Criterion 5

    The reflection/Professional Development Plan is

reflects a self-awareness of an understanding of

areas for future growth for you as a learner.

The three goals selected are supported by a

rationale based upon your class plan andclassroom design.Course Goal 6; EA Diagnosis; WTS 9

    Evidence: Areas to Further Develop:

Evidence of going beyond The paper consistently addresses these L4

    Criteria for Effective Writing:

    Establishing and Maintaining Context

    Verbal Expression

    Appropriate Conventions

    Purposeful Structure

    Evidence:

You clearly set the context and maintained itthroughout the paper. Your paper was well

organized, included appropriate depth of support

of your ideas, and articulated the relationships

among the ideas.EA Communication; WTS 6

    Evidence:

    There were some

    typos/spelling errors as well

    as some errors in punctuation

    and capitalization. There was

    no evidence of citations within

the paper or a referencespage at the end.

    Areas to Further Develop:

Additional Comments: Brittany, you demonstrated a solid understanding of literacy learning and teaching at this stage of your

development as a teacher. Continue to grow your understanding of the theory and how it applies to classroom practice. Remember to

edit for conventions and to cite your sources both within your paper and in a reference page at the end to clearly delineate your own

thinking from that of others. Nicely done!
