Biography

• Born Andre Friedmann Oct 22, 1933, In Austria, Hungary.

• Died May 24,1954 in Thai, Binh State of vietnam at the age of 40.

• Parents: Dezso and Julia Friedmann-Berkovits.

• Left home at the age of 18 because there was little hope after world war 1.

• Wanted to be a writer but found work in photography in Berlin and grew up to love the art.

• In 1933 he moved from Germany to France because of Nazism and persecution of Jewish photographers.

• He had to get rid of the Jewish name “Friedman” and named himself “Robert Capa”

• His nickname in school was “Capa” which meant shark and also sounded American.

• Known for war photography.
