Roadmap monthly newsletter
Editorial
n most regions of the world, the price of fuel has been steadily increasing for years. Most probably you have felt it over and again. Now the really bad news: chances are the price of fuel will continue to increase for years to come. According to the US Department of Energy (Hirsch report), “The problems associated with world oil production peaking will not be temporary, and past
«energy crisis» experience will provide relatively little guidance”.
In other words, a sustained reduction in fuel prices is not to be expected any time soon.
No wonder fuel management has become one of the biggest concerns of fleet managers. In fact, in commercial road transport companies, fuel costs are one of the top costs, often accounting for up to 30% of the fleet’s operating costs. When fuel prices increase, the total running costs of a fleet increase.
There is a great website where you can clearly visualize the evolution in the price of gas over the years. Visit www.gapminder.com and pick this indicator: Pump price for gasoline (US$ per liter). Although data is only available from 1991 to 2006, its animated chart is worth paying a visit. Press Play and you’ll see how gas prices have been increasing almost continuously practically everywhere:
In fact, with very few exceptions like Venezuela, Iran or Turkmenistan, prices have been constantly raising. European countries, represented in orange, are the ones where gasoline prices are the highest.
The fleet tracking tools provided by Frotcom allow you to control your fuel costs by reducing unproductive trips, supervising driving behavior and even detecting fuel thefts; and fuel management has never been more important than nowadays.

New Features
Frotcom is the only telematics system providing fully
integrated 868MHz RF monitoring
Frotcom’s brand new set of wireless sensors includes temperature, door and
security seal sensors. All units provide data wirelessly from the trailer to the
Frotcom in-cab equipment. All sensors are equipped with a long life lithium
battery and their transmission radius is up to 400 metres. Additionally, their
protection class IP 65 allows them to be used in harsh environments.
WTS-1 Wireless Temperature Sensor
WST-1 uses the latest technology to monitor your
load’s temperature. Accurate to within ±0.5 °C, once
this sensor is paired to the in-cab Frotcom vehicle
unit, temperatures are monitored wirelessly and
breaches detected and immediately communicated to
the Frotcom Data Centre for alert.
WDOS-1 Wireless Door Sensor
The WDOS-1 sensor is a flexible programmable
wireless transmitter that can be connected to any
magnetic door switch or trigger input or other high-
grade door switch.
WDOS-1 is programmed to transmit wireless data
directly to the Frotcom in-cab device; door
openings/closings will be detected and communicated
to the Frotcom Data Centre.
WSS-1 Wireless Security Seal Sensor
The WSS-1 is connected to a SecureSeal™ reusable
seal.
The sensor is a flexible programmable wireless
transmitter which detects SecureSeal’s seal openings
and closings and sends a wireless RF message to the
Frotcom telematics unit or to the gatehouse check
system. The data message contains the trailer
identification, a covert seal number and optional
alerts for open or closed seal conditions.
