Inmostcountries,restrictedtoabout30km/h forwardspeedonrailsandtechnicallyeven lowerspeedbackwards.
Considerablyhigher.Wearonthegearboxand tyresalongwith“derailing”resultinhigher operatingcosts.
Largevariationsbetweenwetanddryrails.

SRS Sjölander’s patented two-way system is equipped with hydrostatic drive,whichmeansthatthereisnocontactbetweenthechassis’ordinaryrubbertyresandtherailwayrails.Whenthevehicleistrack-bound,itrestsentirelyontherailwheels.
Thedesignprovidesimpressiveperformanceontherailsespeciallyconcerningsafety, traction, rail tracking, braking ability, speed and comfort.
ThedesignoftheSRSrailtravellingsystemprovidesforfast and safe driving on/off of rails.Whichgivesbothtime and cost savings.Comparedwithconventionalsystems,SRSrailtravellingsystemrequireslessspaceduringthedrivingon/offprocedure.Therequirementfortransferwidthisabouthalfofthelengthofthevehicle.
Two-wayvehiclescanalsobecomplementedwithadeviceforlateral movement,whichsubjecttocertainconditionsallowsdrivingonandoffwithoutusingalevelcrossing.WiththeSRSsystemitisalsopossibletoquicklyandeasilydriveon/offinarelativelytightcurve.Thismeansthateverytrack disposition/working period can be used more efficiently, withshortertransporttimestotheworksite, whichgivesincreasedeffectiveworkingtimeonthetrack.
Thedesignallowsdrivingonandoffwithoutthevehicleencroachingonthefreespacefortheadjacenttrack.
SRStwo-wayvehiclesarenormallydesignedfora speed of 70 km/h on the track.Incomparisonwithrubbertyre-drivensystems,theSRSsystemfunctionswiththehighestsafetywithinitsspeedrange,sincethevehicletravelsonrailwheelsandthereforeinprinciple,hasthesamecharacteristicsasapurelyrail-boundvehicleonthetrack.
Thismeans:• Minimal risk for derailment when crossing points, wing rails and level crossings. • Technically, there are no special speed restrictions requirements in curves, points and level crossings. • Rapid transport to and from the work site.
Brakingcapacityandtractionareinthesameclassasrail-boundvehicles,whichincreases safety.NowearontherubbertyreswiththeSRStwo-waysystem,sincetheydonothavecontactwiththerails.Thisgivesaconsiderable saving in costssincethetyresdonotneedchangingsooftenduetotheextremewearcausedbyrailcontact.
TheSRSsystemisnormallysuppliedwithun-insulatedrailwheels,inordertoeffectthesignalsystem,buttherailtravellingunitcanalsobesuppliedwithinsulatedwheels.TheSRSsystemallowsremote control of the vehiclefrome.g.alift,aworkingplatformorfromacrane.Thismeansthatnodriverisrequiredinthecabduringthiswork,which saves money and time, andalsoeliminatestheriskofmisunderstandingbetweenthedriverandtheoperator.
