Fixed deposits have always been regarded as a safe financialinstrument by people since they ensure security, provide fixedreturns and are comparatively risk-free. However, if one looks atthe current tax slabs, fixed deposits may not be as profitableconsidering the amount of tax incurred on them. Hence, financialexperts strongly recommend parking your money in debt fundsinstead which are essentially a mix of corporate bonds, treasurybills, mutual funds, government securities etc. Here’s why youshould give investing in debt funds a serious thought:
1. No worry about capital safety
If you compare credit ratings of fixed deposits and debt funds, you’ll observe that there’s not much difference in the rankings. These are released by independent rating firms which includeCRISIL, CARE, ICRA etc. While fixed deposits have a rating of AAAsignifying very high capital safety, debt funds have a score of AAimplying high degree of money security.
2. Debt funds guarantee superior post-tax returns
Income received from fixed deposits is termed as interest whereasrevenue earned from debt funds is called as dividend. Both ofthem are categorised differently in terms of taxation. For fixeddeposits, tax liability is based on the individual’s present tax slabregardless of the duration of the FD.
Debt funds on the other hand attract virtually zero taxation if heldfor more than 3 years. For the first year, tax liability for both theinstruments is the same. But for fixed deposit investors, taxesneed to be paid on interest accumulated every year. Therefore, debt funds are more tax-friendly as opposed to FDs. Moreover, individuals who have investment goals for 3 years or more mustcertainly opt for debt funds and take advantage of the taxationbenefit.
3. Debt funds offer higher liquidity and easy withdrawal
Fixed deposits have a set duration and usually offer low liquidityuntil the deposit period ends. Most debt funds have high liquidity ifthe minimum holding time has elapsed and conditional on lock-inperiod as stated. Although some banks let individuals break the FDin part, many of them will ask you to withdraw the entire amountin addition to paying a penalty.
When it comes to debt funds, individuals can enjoy completeliquidity for their investments. Any amount of funds can bewithdrawn at any point of time from the total debt fund value. Asmall sum in the form of exit load might be levied if money is takenout in less than a year.

Multi - Cap advantage: Multi-cap funds can shift their portfoliosacross market caps. They can hold large-cap or mid-cap stocks,or a mix of both. More importantly, they can take exposure to any typeof stocks at the opportune moment."When valuations of large-capstocks are more attractive, as wasthe case in 2015 after the initialcorrection, multi-cap funds tookexposure there. In 2013 there wasan opportunity to invest in qualitymidcaps at reasonable valuations. The ability to move acrossmarket caps at the opportune moment gives these funds an edge,"says Vidya Bala, head of research, Fundsindia.com. For the retailinvestor, this means that he doesn't have to worry about whichmarket cap to invest in. Says Gautam Sinha Roy, Fund Manager,MOSt Focused Multicap 35 Fund: "By investing in a multi-cap fund, the retail investor can leverage a fund manager's expertise interms of taking market cap and sector related calls."
A multi-cap fund can change its nature according to the situation. It can enjoy the stability that exposure to large-cap stocks provides, and at the same time take exposure to mid-cap stocks to prop upits return. So, a good multi-cap fund can provide sound risk-adjusted returns over the long term. Essentially, these provideinvestors best of both - large and mid-cap funds.

Major changes in people's lifestyles has spawnedsignificant rise in cardiovascular diseasesrecently Coronary artery disease (narrowing ofthe arteries supplying blood to the heart) is byfar the leading cause of death in India.
