Bachmann celebrates NSE in style

There is a Network SouthEast (NSE) 30th Anniversary theme running through this year’s Bachmann Branchline and Graham Farish catalogues with models in both ranges carrying the once distinctive red, blue and grey livery. Launched on 10th June 1986 at Waterloo Station (London), NSE created a new image and created one railway for London by unifying BR regions with the new organisation serving routes from Kings Lynn to Exeter and from Dover to Northampton.

Chris Green, former Managing Director of Network SouthEast and now President of the Network SouthEast Society, said at the Bachmann launch earlier today “I am delighted that Bachmann Europe has chosen Waterloo for its launch today, where 30 years ago we took the railway world by storm by unveiling a colourful new livery and a name that is still remembered with affection by many. Bachmann is producing a considerable number of NSE models in the 30th Anniversary year and I am sure these will be a popular addition to the vast range of products that Bachmann manufactures”.

New Tooling

A Class 414 (2 HAP) electric multiple unit will be released in the OO Scale Bachmann Branchline range. The Class 414 follows in the footsteps of the popular 4-CEP, 2-EPB and MLV models, extending the range of Southern Region EMUs available in the Bachmann Branchline range. 209 units were built by British Railways between 1956 and 1963, the first 36 units being built on the underframes of withdrawn units. The two car units were initially used on outer suburban units operated local and semi-fast services on the Southern Region’s South Eastern division alongside 4-CEPs. The last Class 414’s were withdrawn from passenger service in 1995, although some passed into departmental use. Two units have been preserved including No. 4308 from the National Railway Museum which is being cosmetically restored in a joint project by members of the Network SouthEast Society and the NRM.

Graham Farish N scale sees the addition of the Class 319 Electric Multiple Units to the Graham Farish range will be welcomed by modellers of both the Network SouthEast system and the wider contemporary scene. These dual voltage units which can currently be found operating on Thameslink, London Midland and Northern Rail services were built by BREL – York specifically for Network SouthEast. 72 four car units were built between 1987 and 1988 for the launch of Thameslink services between Bedford and Brighton which commenced in May 1988.

New Items

In addition to new tooling items in the shape of the OO Scale Class 414 (2HAP) and the N Scale Class 319 electric multiple units. There are over 200 new items added to the Bachmann Branchline OO Scale catalogue (including 166 new items of rolling stock alone) and over 100 to the Graham Farish N Scale range (with 82 new items of rolling stock).

Bachmann Europe’s Managing Director, David Haarhaus, said today “our 2016/2017 range includes an exciting mix of both new items and releases using existing tooling. During the year we will be prioritizing on getting already announced new tooling to market and we are delighted that our parent company, Kader, is

providing us with additional resources to enable this to happen. In the meantime, I would like to reassure our customers that whilst this year is very much one of consolidation, our Research & Development team and our Design Engineers will be working on other projects for release in future years, enabling us to reduce the timescale between announcement and release to our extensive dealer network”.

Train Packs

A Network SouthEast themed train pack is available in each scale and both include special commemorative items along with a specially commissioned Scenecraft building creating a unique, limited edition pack. The ‘Capital Commuter’ train pack in OO scale depicts a typical commuter train operating in and around London on the third rail electrified routes and includes the Class 416 EMU along with a Scenecraft low relief station. The Graham Farish ‘Capital Connection’ train pack depicts a typical loco hauled train operating between London Liverpool Street and Kings Lynn before electrification of the route. Including a Class 47 and three coaches in Network SouthEast colours, the pack is complete with a Scenecraft model of Downham Market signal box.

Bachmann Dynamis RailController

With Digital Command Control offering more benefits than ever before, Bachmann is proud to introduce a new user friendly computer-control system allowing you to use each DCC feature to the maximum – the Bachmann Dynamis RailController. This groundbreaking software allows the intuitive and simplified control of DCC-fitted locomotives as well as points and signals, utilizing the full potential of the recently introduced Bachmann Dynamis Ultima DCC system.

BACHMANN BRANCHLINEFirst announced at our Club Members Day last year, the Class 117 DMU and the Single Car equivalent – the Class 121 – appear in the Branchline catalogue for the first time. These ‘Suburban’ DMUs were originally built to operate commuter services on the Western Region and later appeared across the British rail network. The initial release of each model will include examples in Network SouthEast colours.

Two new BA containers are being tooled for use with the existing Conflat wagons. These represent the standard and vented versions. In addition, new tooling options on the 21T Grain Hopper allow Private Owner liveries to be offered for the first time.

Loaded Trains

A significant new development for 2016 will be the addition of passengers to coaches and loads to wagons. Selected coaches from the BR Mark 1 and Mark 2 series will soon be available with factory fitted passengers, alongside a selection of multiple units including the Class 101 DMU and 2 EPB EMU. Goods trains can also be populated as selected wagons will be offered with suitable loads for the first time – bringing your models to life.

Next18

Bachmann continue a tradition of innovation as the first manufacturer of British outline models to use the Next18 DCC decoders and sockets. This compact, user friendly interface allows improved functionality and you will find Next18 sockets in a number of Branchline releases including the Ivatt 2MT and V1/V3 Tank locomotives. The Class 03 diesel and 3F Jinty also receive the Next18 interface - with both models offered with factory fitted DCC Sound for the first time.

Several new Branchline steam locomotives will appear in colourful liveries spanning the eras from the Class D11/1 which will appear in Great Central green to the WD 2-8-0 which carries Longmoor Military Railway blue. For fans of the modern scene, the latest livery to appear in the West Country - GWR green - will appear on the Class 57 and Class 166 DMU whilst the Class 57 will also carry the colours of Northern Belle – the charter company whose stock can be seen operating around the UK.

GRAHAM FARISHFurther developments see the Class 70 modified to include the additional air intakes which have been fitted to subsequent batches of the real locomotives. With this modification, models in both Freightliner and the popular Colas liveries make welcome additions to the range.

Steam era modellers can look forward to the first ready-to-run British outline N scale steam locomotive to be offered with DCC Sound. The GWR Castle Class locomotives will feature the latest Next18 DCC decoder sockets and taking full advantage of these developments, a model of preserved class member No. 5029 ‘Nunney Castle’ will be available with DCC Sound. Next18 decoder sockets will be incorporated into future Graham Farish release such as the Class 40 diesel, allowing additional DCC functions such as lighting and sound features.

Loading the goods

For the first time, selected Graham Farish N scale goods wagons will be available with factory fitted wagon loads, allowing modellers to choose whether they wish to depict a loaded goods train or a rake of empties.

ScenecraftThe ever-popular Scenecraft range continues to expand with further items to enhance your layout in both OO and N scale. The OO scale range includes new releases in the popular low relief building series; with more houses and shops on offer these structures make an ideal backdrop to any scene. Rural settings are not forgotten either with several additions, essential in creating a quintessentially British village, ranging from a church to the farmyard pig sty and stables.

The N scale range has plenty to offer with a new range based on the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway’s station at Shillingstone. Likewise the popular Great Central Railway series returns, modelled on the buildings located at Rothley on the preserved GCR – they capture the building style synonymous with stations along the route.

NEW BRANCHLINE OO SCALE PRODUCTS FOR 2016/17Items in bold are brand new products. Those in plain text are new releases of existing tooling.
