“What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?”

(Matthew 16:26) St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God, and

nothing else.” We often forget this stewardship wisdom when we spend all of our time, talent, and treasure to gain more of the world’s riches. We need to set our priorities based on God’s values

and not the values of the material world.

September 13, 2020 On September 27, the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan is happy to announce the 14th Annual Compassionate Healers’ Mass will take place at Holy Rosary Cathedral at 11 AM. Archbishop Bolen will preside. This year, we hope all parishes will take the opportunity to offer a blessing to the caregivers in their parishes: the personal care assis-tants, nurses, doctors, first responders and those caring for loved ones. September 20, 2020 The Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan is happy to share the good news that the 14th Annual Compassionate Healers’ Masses will be taking place in most parishes across the diocese during next weekend’s celebrations. A representative from CHAS will be at the liturgy presided by Archbishop Bolen at Holy Rosary Cathedral at 11 AM. Please take a moment to pray for all those working in Catholic healthcare in our province and for all people who offer care to those in need.

Masks are required at all times when attending Mass or visiting the

parish office.

The Sponsor Connection

Matthew 28:18-20 - And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Romans 1:16 - For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

As an RCIA sponsor you would be responding to the word of Jesus who calls us all to go and make disciples of all nations. By walking beside your Candidate, you would provide the support to someone discerning their decision to join the Catholic church. You are not expected to be an expert in theology, but rather someone who genuinely wants to support another’s journey, introduce them to the parish and all the different ways to live as a faithful Catholic. Many sponsors remark on what they learn about their faith while accompanying the Candidate and often lifelong friendships are made.

As a sponsor we would ask that you attend all the sessions with your Candidate, be available between sessions to encourage and support your Candidate’s journey, and to introduce your Candidate to all that is offered by the Parish and Archdiocese outside of the weekly RCIA sessions.

Are you interested in journeying with someone discerning their decision to join the Catholic church? Are you ready to respond to the call of Jesus?

Timothy Abello says:” Being a sponsor improved my knowledge about my faith “

Mary-Ann Dionne says:” Not only did I have the privilege of journeying with my candidate and witnessing her faith grow, my faith deepened as well.”

Chris McArthur says:” When I was asked to consider becoming an RCIA Sponsor I chose to do so as I felt that I was being called by God to renew my faith. At times it was truly a bit of a learning experience for me as well. I enjoyed journeying with my candidate.”

Marge Yano says:” Being a sponsor is a very rewarding experience. You get to journey along with your candidate and watch them in their faith journey. The unexpected blessings that a sponsor receives is renewing their own faith journey as you also grow and learn & become closer to God!”

Deanna Lang says:” For me, as a second-time sponsor, it was another great experience. It was as much beneficial to me, as a sponsor, as It was for my candidate. Knowing that we are there for individual support of our candidates, while all the teachings and lessons are provided by the experts is a great experience. I also realized how rich a parish we have with so many humble and dedicated people.”

Curious about being a sponsor? Interested in responding to the call from Jesus?

RESURRECTION PARISH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Thursday September 17, 2020 - 7:00 pm Zoom meeting

Please join us at the 2020 Annual General Meeting. As stated in our parish regulations the purpose of the annual meeting is to report the activities of the pastoral council and finance council and their

respective committees during the past year, provide an income statement and balance sheet for the year, and elect members to the pastoral council and finance council. The meeting is open to all parishioners of Resurrection Parish.

The positions listed below are up for election at our 2020 Annual General Meeting. The Stewardship Chair serves on both councils. Two individuals as co-chairs may fill any position. Please pray about how you might see yourself as part of the leadership of Resurrection Parish. If you or someone you know has an interest to serve on either council – in any capacity, listed below or not, please contact: Marjorie Ingjaldson at [email protected] or Shelley Thiel at [email protected] or the parish office at [email protected] or 306-352-0800.

or consulting role as to the spiritual and temporal care and development of the Parish. If you have a vested interest in

strengthening the parish as a whole, please talk to Marjorie or Victoria in how your voice is important to

Pastoral Council.

Finance Council The Finance Council is entrusted to advise the Parish Priest with respect to the Parish goods and property

(temporal goods). If you have a background in finance or accounting and feel you could share your talents for the good of the parish, please speak to Shelley or Victoria.

Pastoral and Finance Councils

"How can we make this big parish feel small?" Over 7,000 people - part of over 2300 families belong to Resurrection Parish. Our Mission is to grow in our own faith, deepen our roots in our faith, and deepen the relationship that each one of us has with Christ and with each other in Christ. As well, we want to reach beyond the walls of our church and our current parishioners, into our community, to share and spread God's love, joy and Word to our neighbors and community.

Pastoral Council

Pastoral Chair is responsible for keeping parishioners informed and developing and maintaining good relations between parishioners and the parish organizations, and other parishes and the public. The chair of this committee shall work with fundraising committee and/or the Finance Council as required.

Vice Chair is responsible to assist the Pastoral Chair with pastoral council duties and temporarily assume these duties when the Chair is absent. This includes keeping parishioners informed and developing and maintaining good relations between parishioners and the parish organizations, and other parishes and the public.

Hospitality is responsible for distributing welcome kits to new parishioners, coordinate social events throughout year like a parish/community barbeque, pancake breakfasts, Harvest Supper, Bingo, Halloween party etc.

Ecumenism is responsible for the education of the Parish on ecumenical issues. This committee shall act as a liaison with other Christian churches and other faith groups in the area and in the development of inter-church activities. Help coordinate and promote Praise in the Park, World Day of Prayer.

Liturgy works with the priest and/or pastoral assistant(s) to oversee and provide for meaningful liturgical celebrations including weekend ministry scheduling, training new ministers, music, and décor.

Social Justice is responsible for the development of programs, on-going education (Church's biblical and social teachings) and involvement within justice and service issues at the local, national and international level.

Youth works with the priest and/or pastoral assistant to foster the spiritual, social, and personal growth of the youth in the parish. Works with the coordinators of the Youth programs - Kids Alive, Jump, Higher, VBS (Vacation Bible School) and Source Adoration for support, resources, promotions and team.

Stewardship is responsible for creating awareness in all parishioners that everything we have comes from God: our life, our talents, our abilities, our intellectual gifts, our resources, and our holiness. There is only one chair who serves on both Pastoral and Finance Councils.

Finance Council

Finance Council Chair leads the advisory body responsible for safeguarding the finances and assets of Resurrection Parish and ensuring financial data is communicated to pastor, pastoral council and sub-committees and all other affected parties. Key priorities of Finance Council are: Finance Administration, Buildings & Grounds, Hall and Catering, Fundraising and Stewardship. A business background, especially financial and accountings skills, is valuable.

Finance Council Vice Chair assists the Finance Chair with leading the advisory body responsible for safeguarding the finances and assets of Resurrection Parish and ensuring financial data is communicated to pastor, pastoral council and sub-committees and all other affected parties. A business background, especially financial and accountings skills, is valuable.

1835 Halifax St. P: (306) 757 0073 Regina, SK S4P 1T4 [email protected]                                                                                                                               August 26, 2020 Dear Friends,            Late summer greetings! We hope and pray these summer days have been blessed for all of you. They have been good for us. We did individually get away for some holiday time, mostly in this beautiful province, although Christine and Peter did visit their families in Ontario. Now we are preparing to re‐open next week, something we always look foward to – it is like the beginning of a new year. However, this ‘new year’ is not like other years because of the Covid restrictions.  Our hope had been to re‐open our dining room, we will need to continue to serve our meals as bagged lunches from the front door for the coming months  ‐  until there is a significant change in the social distancing requirement.            We continue to think of ways we can best serve those who come to us and to make the hospitality we offer personal. Including home baked goods in our lunch bags, especially muffins,has been one way of our doing this. Your continued support with this will be appreciated – as well as any other items for the lunch bags ( such as granola bars, juice packs, meat and cheese  for sandwiches, fruit). We do assist, upon request,  a vareity of other needs, including personal hygiene and mens’ clothing. Women and children have been coming for lunch bags as well – but our clothing room is just for men.             We need to continue to suspend  the regular rotation of weekly volunteers ‐ until we can re‐open the dining room and resume our drop‐in and hotmeal program. Our annual rotation of CWL volunteers will also need to be suspended.  However, a few volunteers are helping us with our present program and we are so glad for this. It is an understatement to say we miss seeing so many of you on a regular basis! We certainly pray for you all, and we count on your prayers –especially that we be creatively faithful to those we have been called to serve in these unusual and difficult days.  With our love,                                Charlie for Kate, Christine, David and Peter
