Month ofRotaryAwareness

Page 2: Rivulet january 2014 issue

January is celebrated by Rotary Clubs around the world as “Rotary Awareness Month.”

It is a time for us to consider how our Rotary Values and our own actions, influence the public’s perception of Rotary.

For the community at large Rotary is seen through our good works and contribution to society. Even then much of what we do is invisible to the wider community or not necessarily attributed to Rotary. I think most Rotarians get rather agitated every time they see a media report on polio eradication wherein Rotary is not mentioned at all or rates barely a passing mention.

At the broadest level we have to concede that Rotary as an organisation, as a club and Rotarians as individuals have not been effective at creating that awareness that we should be achieving.

Simple things that one can do is, when we are serving the community it is good if we wear Rotary apparel – shirt, jacket, cap or hat. And at all times one must wear a Rotary pin. A rotary pin, is not merely a pin. It brings within you a sense of belonging, a feeling of being responsible and give you the renewed inspiration to be of service to humanity. Besides this ofcourse, one can make use of the local media (newspaper, electronic, radio) available to showcase the effective work carried out by each club.

This month also gives an opportunity to provide some Rotary history or some information about Rotary programs and activities to our fellow members.

Rotary awareness should be an ongoing process, and not restricted to the month of January.

Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera totally believes in that philosophy. Our Club has its own website page which projects all the wonderful work done by the club, including the general information and history of the club. Our club also has a facebook page, through which our clubs projects are shared with our friends and relatives across. Besides this almost all our projects feature in the local dailys (newspapers), and few in electronic media/ radio.

Before I conclude, my sincere thanks to our District Governor Rtn. Mohan Mulherkar and First lady Ann Veena for all the support and understanding during his official DG Visit.

Sincere gratitude to Mr. Deepak Bandekar and Mrs. Neeta Rajani for all the support, and our club feels priviledged to have Mr. Deepak as our Honorary Member.

Many thanks to my dear members who have sponsored/ organised our projects in this month, Rtn. Dr. Sandeep Kenkre, Rtn. Gaurish Lawande, Rtn. Yatin Kakodkar, Rtn. Pradip Dhuri, Rtn. Yogish Kulkarni, Rtn. Abhijeet Shetye, Rtn. Bhavik Rajani, Rtn. Shekhar Shirwaikar, Rtn. Dr. Mahesh Pai, Rtn. Rajesh Salgaoncar, Ann Vishal Lunia and also thank Home Science College. Special thanks to Peoples High School.

Believe in the Rotary pin…. it changes you. It makes you remember, all the time, that you are a Rotarian – and that as Rotarians, we are here to help.

Cheers to Rotary!

Yours in Rotary,Rtn. Madhavi Bandekar Shetye

i) Ration to NAB

Rtn. Dr. Sandeep Kenkre on the occasion of his birthday gave the rations for the month of January to National Association for the Blind on behalf of Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera.

ii) Blood Donation Camp

Blood cannot be manufactured in factories; it can only come from generous donors. According to WHO data, India faces a shortage of 3 million blood units. This shortage can easily be eliminated if only an additional 2% of India’s youth donates blood. To make this possible, Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera in association with Home Science College organized a blood donation camp where in a lot of youth came forward to donate blood. Doctor team from GMC – Goa Medical College were present with all the required equipments/ inrtuments etc for conducting the blood camp. About 35 bottles were collected on this day. Rtn. Rajesh Salgaonkar and Ann Vishal Lunia from Riviera donated blood too.

iii) Installation of water filter

Water is a fundamental human need. Each person on Earth requires at least 20 to 50 liters of clean, safe water a day for drinking, cooking, and simply keeping themselves clean. Polluted water isn’t just dirty—it’s deadly. Some 1.8 million people die every year of diarrheal diseases like cholera. Tens of millions of others are seriously sickened by a host of water-related ailments—many of which are easily preventable. The United Nations considers universal access to clean water a basic human right, and an essential step towards improving living standards worldwide. And hence Providing ‘Safe’ drinking water has been one of the upmost goals of our club. RC Panaji Riviera has been providing water filters to households in Canacona and places. This year we took a step further by installing a water filter in the Municipal market, in Panaji. This water filter has a capacity of 80 ltrs of water with 2 outlets hot and cold. The installation of the water filter was done in the hands of our Chief Guest, District Governor Rtn. Mohan Mulherkar and Guest of Honour Chairman of CCP Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues on the 11 of January 2014.This project will provide safe, clean and accessible water to the vendors and people visiting the Muncipal market. The water filter will be maintained on daily basis by an inmate

iv) 4 beds and a wheel chair donated to Santa Rita old age home

One out of every two seniors suffers from sleep deprivation, due to their medical issues etc…. Seniors are falling asleep during the day simply because they aren’t getting enough quality nocturnal sleep. The greatest need of aging individuals is frequently a mere expression of real caring and concern by thoughtful friends. Our Rotarians take this very seriously and hence are constantly thinking, planning and actively participate in programs for the aging. Concern for the aginghas always been our top priority and hence we checked up with Santa Rita old age home of their requirements. And accordingly, on the occasion of Rtn. Raja Melvani’s fathers birth anniversary, Rtn. Raja and his family donated 2 fowler beds, and a wheel chair to this home. Rtn. Kalyani Laud also donated 2 fowler beds to this home on the same day. Raja also donated the mattress, pillow and the small foot(dining) table for all 4 beds. God bless the families!

v) Pulse Polio

Pulse Polio is an immunization campaign encouraged by Rotary International. As a result of the efforts of Rotary International and its partners, more than one billion children have received oral polio vaccine and are protected from poliomyelitis. Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera manages the Polio booth at Old Goa Primary health Centre and another at Old Goa Church. We immunized 431 at health centre and 478 at the church. Our Polio Chairman Dr. Shekhar Shirwaikar personally visits and immunizes the children.

vi) Road safety awareness

Rotary club of Panaji Riviera in association with Home Science College had a road safety programme, during the road safety week in Jan. The students of the college alongwith members displayed placards on Miramar road, Campal, shouted slogans and cautioned the drivers to wear seat belts etc… The placards had short but clear messages like SPEED – Helping death to reach faster, LEADER – One who wears a seat belt and inspires to buckle up, MURDERER – A person who drinks and drives, Love – Offering your pillion rider a helmet…. Etc etc…

and aims to demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth, provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders, and encourage leadership of youth by youth.

The Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera partnered with the Goa College of Home Science to organize a RYLA for college going youth named TARANG. The aim of this RYLA is to rekindle within the students of today a deeper understanding, appreciation, and love of all things Goan! TARANG is a 2 days inter-collegiate and inter-higher secondary school RYLA, which seeks to draw out the innate talent of the student community while also subtly imbuing in them a social message – “Know thy State - Love thy State”. The Event is scheduled to be held on the 23rd and 24th of January 2014. “Sarjansheel Goyem” has been chosen as the theme of ‘Tarang’ this year. A detailed description of the Competitions and expenditure has been attached for your reference. We seek your participation in the successful implementation of this RYLA for college going youth, which will go a long way in achieving the Rotary International theme 2013-14 ENGAGE ROTARY CHANGE LIVES.Special thanks to the principal, Rtn. i) Installation of Interact Club

Interact, a Rotary-sponsored youth service club, was launched by the RI Board of Directors in 1962. Interact clubs provide opportunities for boys and girls of secondary school age to work together in a world fellowship of service and international understanding. The term “Interact” is derived from “inter,” for international, and “act,” for action. Every Interact club must be sponsored and supervised by a Rotary club and must plan annual projects of service to its school, community and in the world. Today there are more than 6,000 Interact clubs with 138,500 members in 96 countries. And today we are proud to announce the installation of our 1st Interact Club – Interact Club of People’s High School, in the hands of our DG Rtn. Mohan Mulherkar on the 11th of January 2014. Rtr. Shivani Karapurkar was inducted as the Charter President of this young and enthusiastic club alongwith her team of 12 dynamic members. Another 3 members got inducted into this club on the same day. We are hoping that the Interactors develop skills in leadership and attain practical experience in conducting service projects, thereby learning the satisfaction that comes from serving others. A major goal of Interact is to provide opportunities for young people to create greater understanding and goodwill with youth throughout the world.

ii) RYLA for the youthRotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is Rotary’s leadership training program for young people. RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth,

A common refrain that I hear from people is that they want to kick the nine to five routine and start something on their own, something new - become

an entrepreneur - but they are waiting for an auspicious time or the right idea to come along. So they play the waiting game; they wait for the right idea to show up while their entrepreneurial instincts steadily but surely grow comfortably numb with the security offered by the monthly pay-check under the veil of the nine to five job. And the dream of entrepreneurship dies a slow, quiet death!

On the other hand, true blood entrepreneurs are like gladiators - they don’t wait for the prefect time; nor are they interested in the false sense of security that a monthly pay-check offers; and nor are they interested in the finer nuances or theories of appropriate sword wielding techniques. They just want to grab the sword, jump into the arena and get on with the fight. They want to be out there in the middle where the action is, making mistakes while learning from them, getting dirty, discovering new techniques to wield their sword and looking at openings to get their moves right to get an edge over their rival. That’s the true spirit of an entrepreneur!

It’s a myth that successful entrepreneurs start off with a brilliant idea. On the contrary, most don’t - they simply discover them! It is true, not many of us have the deep pockets and financial backup required to embark on a completely untried, untested prototype and target path-breaking innovations. And so, most entrepreneurs who start from scratch just piggy back on an idea that is already successful in the marketplace and then innovate or build around it to differentiate their offering, sometimes only marginally and push this as a new offering or target an entirely new segment with it.

Apple’s runaway success - the ubiquitous iPod is a case in point. Even before the iPod was launched, there were several MP3 players on the market. But all of them had limited storage capacity, low battery life and were sold through traditional sales channels. What Apple did was simply came up with a better design that offered a much higher capacity storage, a long lasting battery and integrated this tightly with online sales and a catchy ad-campaign which said “carry all your music in your pocket”. With the addition of a touch screen, the iPod hit pay dirt and how! A clear instance of how an existing idea was tinkered with, discoveries converted into innovations and refinements made to assume market-leader status.

In Google, we find another fantastic example of how entrepreneurs discover ideas as they move. Larry Page and Sergey Brin started off their collaboration effort trying to

N I L E S H A M O N K E R ’ S B L O G

prioritize library searches online. In doing so they realized that the best way to prioritize and list the results was to assess how many other citations and papers referred to a given source. This realization is what is at the core of Google’s Page Rank and Search algorithm and has propelled Google to the most used search engine in the world today. However the real revenue generator for Google was not the search engine by itself but its AdWords programme which displays targeted ads related to the search phrase entered by the user right next to the search results. At the time Google was launched, there were several search engines on the internet but Google discovered the right ‘mix’ as they went along and were able to monetize their idea far better and quicker than the others.

The third example that comes to mind is that of Facebook. What was conceived as a Harvard campus dating site by Mark Zuckerberg has blossomed into the world’s biggest social network. Obviously Mark never started Facebook with this objective in mind - with his limited means, there certainly was no vision of building a social network of this size or nature. But

as he delved into his idea of a dating site, he discovered what worked and what did not and refined his original idea and built around it, making little changes from time to time until Facebook hit critical mass. And the rest is history! Of course there were other social networking sites like Friendster and Hi5 even back then; but the little discoveries that Mark made along the journey and the ones he chose to work on and refine his idea led to the incredible growth of Facebook.

In all these cases, nobody started off knowing what would eventually work; none of them even had any vision whatsoever of where they were headed or of the enormous success that

Entrepreneurship- What an Idea Sirji!

awaited them. They simply jumped into action mode, got cracking on their ideas and adopted an experimental approach. They kept trying things, discovering what worked and what did not as they experimented and freely tinkered with their original ideas, exploring creative possibilities and refining them through continuous iterations, ignoring failures and building on their successes until eventually they had built million dollar enterprises.

Almost all successful entrepreneurs who start from scratch with access to limited capital and resources operate in this experimental way. They don’t wait for the right time or the prefect idea to get started and instead just follow their instincts – their hunches and gut feel - and choose to get their hands dirty. A clearer picture starts emerging as they make progress; they discover what’s right with their idea and what’s not and steadily build on the original idea in response to these discoveries.

This experimental approach is akin to getting into a well-equipped kitchen to cook a meal with little or no knowledge of what ingredients are available until you hit the kitchen. You rummage through the cabinets looking for foodstuff and ingredients that you can use to put together a meal, improvising along the way. Yes, while the outcome may be unpredictable of

what dish will eventually come out of the kitchen, there is also a possibility that with a little improvisation you could come out with a completely new recipe! On the other hand, if you wait until the right ingredients and the complete recipe are made available, chances are you might have to stay hungry all day!

As founder of Atari, Nolan Bushnell famously said about entrepreneurship: “The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”

Of course, entrepreneurs do face failure - not all their ideas work! But they take it in their stride, learning from the experience and not dwelling too much over it and of course, discovering what works and what doesn’t.

The trick clearly is to keep moving forward each day and to look back only to see how far you’ve come!

Reading a novel triggers lasting changes

in the brainLovers of literature can rejoice: a new study combines the humanities and neuroscience to take a look at what effects reading a novel can have on the brain. Researchers say exploring a book cannot only change your perspective, but also it can change your mind - at least for a few days.

The researchers, from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, published their findings in the journal Brain Connectivity.

Neuroscientist Gregory Berns, lead author and director of Emory’s Center for Neuropolicy, says: “Stories shape our lives and in some cases help define a person. We want to understand how stories get into your brain, and what they do to it.”

To investigate the inner workings of the novel-reading mind, the researchers recruited 21 undergraduates from Emory, who were instructed to read a thriller written by Robert Harris in 2003, titled Pompeii.

Based on the real-life eruption of Mount Vesuvius in ancient Italy, Berns explains that the narrative “follows a [fictional] protagonist, who is outside the city of Pompeii and notices steam and strange things happening around the volcano.”

While the protagonist tries to save the woman he loves back in Pompeii, the volcano continues to erupt, and meanwhile others in the city do not recognize the signs, Berns says: “It was important to us that the book had a strong narrative line,” he explains, so that the study participants would read a book with an intriguing plot.

changes in language and sensory motor brain regions

After performing fMRI scans, researchers found that reading a novel causes lasting effects in regions of the brain responsible for language receptivity and for making sensory representations of the body.

For 19 days in a row, the researchers analyzed the study participants. For the first 5 days, the investigators performed base-line functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans on the students’ brains while they were in a resting state.

Then, over the course of 9 days, the students read specific portions of the novel until they completed it. Instructed to read each assigned part in the evening, the students came back to the researchers in the morning.

In true college undergraduate style, they had to take a quiz in order to prove they had completed the assigned reading, after which, they again underwent an fMRI scan during a non-

reading, resting state.

After completion of the novel, the students then returned for 5 additional days, during which they again underwent scans while in a resting state.

On the mornings after the reading sessions, the researchers observed heightened connectivity in the left temporal cortex, which is an area of the brain linked to receptivity for language.

Berns explains that this heightened connectivity remained, even though the students were not reading the book while they were being scanned.

“We call that a ‘shadow activity,’ almost like a muscle memory,” he says.

The investigators also noticed heightened connectivity in an area of the brain known as the central sulcus. This is a main

sensory motor region of the brain, which is associated with making representations of sensation for the body.

They explain that, for example, when we merely think about running, we can activate neurons in the brain that are associated with the actual physical motion of running.

neural changes are not just instant reactions

Berns says their findings “suggest that reading a novel can transport you into the body of the protagonist.” He adds: “We already knew that good stories can put you in someone else’s shoes in a figurative sense. Now we’re seeing that something may also be happening biologically.”

Interestingly, because the investigators observed these neural changes even 5 days after the students had finished the novel, Berns says the reactions were not simply instantaneous.

Although he says the team is not sure how long these changes last, Berns notes that since they observed them while the students were reading a “randomly assigned novel suggests that your favorite novels could certainly have a bigger and

longer-lasting effect on the biology of your brain.”

Constantly touted as the ideal honeymoon destination, Bali is easily seen as a paradise for lovers. While it certainly lives up to that name, it also happens to be fun, family destination.

There’s no cliché that can be used to describe the beauty of Bali in complete aptness. My first though of Bali, was that it’s a lot like India. Just like our country, Bali – although only a small island is geographically diverse. It offers gorgeous beaches to laze by, temples to visit, and even treks up volcanoes for adventure seekers. So, if you are travelling with family, where everyone has different interests, Bali will not disappoint.

Bali is an island with a Hindu majority in a predominantly Muslim nation. There are a vast number of puras or

temples on the island. One may not be able to visit all of them, but for the spiritual inclined in your family, there are a few that shouldn’t be missed.

Pura Besaikh (aka Mother Temple), is a collection of temples in the eponymous village of Besaikh. Situated on the slopes of Mount Agung, the temples site remained untouched when the mighty mountain erupted in 1963, causing great destruction, lending it an almost miraculous stature. Even if your family isn’t keen on a temple visit, the location is glorious enough to entice them.

Another temple worth visiting for its scenic surroundings is the Ulan Danu Temple. Located in

the mountains in the Bedugul region, the temple is built on the shores of Lake Bratan. It is dedicated to the goddess of lakes and rivers – Dewi Batari Ulan Danu.

Yet another temple with a spectacular sea surrounded location is Tanah Lot. The name literally translates as ‘ land in the middle of the sea’. The temple sits on a rock just off the coast and is a popular tourist destination, especially during sunset.

For the adventure folks, Bali is surfing heaven. The beaches of Kuta are especially popular with Australian surfers who

S O J O U R N B A L I

take long vacations just to surf in Bali. Other common water activities such as snorkeling, jet skiing and parasailing can be done on the beaches of South Bali. If you’re a fan of swimming, you need to be careful! Bali is also popular for diving. Amed in East Bali is among the best places.

For a relaxing time away from the crowd, there are several small beaches around Nusa Dua and Benoa that aren’t as commercial as the others. Lovina in the north is a black sand beach, quite different from the other beaches in Bali. Here, you can also spot hundreds of dolphins. Boats leave early in the morning to reach the dolphin-spotting site, so make sure you wake up on time.

One of my favorite activity was visiting Mount Batur. Mount Batur offers a spectacular view of Lake Batur. A lot of tourists like to climb up to the top of Batur to see and experience the large and looming volcano. A simple trek of roughly two hours will take you to the summit. Batur is still active, and one can see steam rising from it at some places. You can climb up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the sun rise and have breakfast at the peak. Early morning, or late afternoon, the beauty doesn’t diminish.

Bali, and no mention of nightlife? Bali is the ultimate party destination. From the most expensive clubs, to loud and noisy pubs, Bali has it all. You can head to Kuta or Legian and dance the night away or enjoy a drink or two at a pub playing some great music. Another must visit is the Rock Bar – 360 degrees of sheer glamour on the rocks located in Ayana resort and spa, Jimbaran, Bali.

When it comes to food, the only trouble you will have is deciding what to eat. In Bali, the seafood is what people come looking for. Also staples such as soto ayam, mee ayam, babi guling are widely available and delicious. There are plenty of other options too – from Chinese, Malaysian, Vietnamese cuisine to Italian, Mexican, European to Indian cuisine. Apart from these, there are specialty restaurants for those who know exactly what they want. My personal favorite was Queens of India and Sports Bar restaurant. I have had the finest preparations of pork ribs ever, in Bali. Yum!

Ladies will go crazy with the wide variety of local handicrafts available in Bali. I came across such unique and eye-pleasing handicrafts. For general shopping, Ubud in Central Bali is ideal. There are also a few malls like Discovery Mall and Ramayana Mall which keep lower-range brands… pretty good.

Ubud is not merely a shopping destination, it is a cultural hub of Bali. Traditional Balinese dance performances and other art forms thrive here.

There are some other wonderful places to visit, such as the Goa Gajah cave temple, sprawling rice fields and terraces, and gorgeous lakes like Buyan and Tamblingan.

This is what I, my wife Madhavi and friends Dr. Shekhar, Maya, Saloni, Prasad, Dr. Sunil, Seema, Dr. Sandeep, Dr. Ashwini, Ronney discovered …. But am sure you and your family can find much more.

ARieS March 21 - April 20

Despite the ongoing tug-of-war between your private life career and the fact that a partner or competitor is occasionally

adding to the drama, you are still able to turn a profit or to at least brainstorm some very profitable ideas that earns your boss’s respect. you could also be taking on more leadership roles too. maybe that is what has a competitor so upset. you also find time for romance, socializing, and bringing a sense of peace and harmony into your home.

TAuRuS April 21 - May 21

your spouse, best friend, business partner, a rival, or competitor is not in sync with your professional path, leadership skills,

public reputation, boss, father, or an authority figure in your life. your partner or rival tends to be rather stubborn, depressed, or in the mood to challenge you anyway, so it is not surprising that this is a topic that they have become opinionated about. you actually seem to be doing well professionally and are earning the respect of your peers, so maybe your partner or rival is ticked off that you are being cheered on when they would rather you were not encouraged to carry on in the direction you are heading.

Gemini May 22 - June 21

Despite having an ongoing drama of some kind involving your finances, you actually have some excellent financial

and professional opportunities this month. you have two money sectors and two professional sectors and they have paired up with work and profits joining forces while success and wealth are also teaming up together. the good news in your financial and professional life could help to distract you from the less than stellar energy flowing through your love life sectors.

CAnCeR June 22 - July 22

while your various partnerships and rivalries are still undergoing quite a lot of stress and challenge, you are still able to make progress within some of your romantic or

financial partnerships. you are able to find time for fun, romance, and playtime. however, you still have plenty of issues involving trust and/or your home life to iron out.

there seems to be enough money for the household budget but not a lot of extra for playtime activities. luckily, you are beginning to see the beginning of a positive trend in your professional life so hopefully, the good news at work will

begin creating more income too. in the meantime, you will just have to find economical ways to entertain yourself and your loved ones.

SCoRpio October 24 - November 22

Despite the fact that you are still dealing with a lot of drama at work, something finally changed this month. a boss or authority figure may have left the battle, you may

have decided to stop trying to take on a leadership role, or you may have accomplished a major level of achievement even with all of the negativity happening around you. this professional grand finale, retirement, or stepping aside of a leader was a good thing and it helped you to see more clearly what role you have to play in the upcoming months as professional battles get bigger and uglier.

SAGiTTARiuS November 23 - December 21

extended family, neighbors, and local friends can be such a mixed blessing. there are times this month, when you can

have so much fun with them and you really love socializing with them. and then there are times when they pull out all of their weird quirks, drunkenness, addictions, gullible beliefs, dysfunctional behaviors, etc. and you just want to run screaming. of course, we all know that is just part of the deal when you care about people, that we take the good with the bad, but this month, they are really really good or really really bad, sometimes both at the same time.

CApRiCoRn December 22 - January 20

you are beginning to have a disagreement with yourself or with your boss about your professional path or level of

achievement. you and your partner or rival are still bickering about things at home or someone in your private life. you have some social outlets that help to distract you from the stresses of life and you and your partner are able to enjoy yourselves when you are away from home running errands, visiting with local friends, etc.

AquARiuS January 21 - February 18

you are getting upset about your professional path, level of success, leadership style, and/or your boss. however, you are

also successfully working towards achieving your financial and professional goals. so, it could be real issues that are upsetting you or you may just be feeling grumpy and looking for reasons to be annoyed. be careful not to say or do anything that you will regret. taking time to reflect on your long-term professional goals and where you are today and how you might like to get from here to there could prove quite helpful and enlightening.

piSCeS February 19 - March 20

Despite your financial challenges involving friends, teammates, membership dues, internet activities, and/

Happy New Year 2014!!

As we enter into the second half of our rotary year, we should step back and think

about all the good things we have done because of our involvement with Rotary.

January month is designated as Rotary Awareness Month in the Rotary calendar.

It a good time for us to know more about Rotary and make the world know about

us as Rotarians and Rotary as a whole. It’s a time for us to update our knowledge

about Rotary, which will help us become more committed and dedicated Rotarians.

It’s the time of year to take stock, to review the goals that we have set for ourselves.

The tougher time lies ahead, as it’s difficult to keep the members motivated as the

year comes to an end. So it’s important to ensure that we work harder now to

accomplish what is left to be completed.

It’s time for us to realize that our Glass is half empty and not half Full. I am sure that we Rivierians will ensure

that we remain motivated enough and keep our spirit high for the remaining half of this Rotary year.

I would like to express my considerable appreciation to all those who have contributed in this issue of the

Rivulet. It is their generous contributions of time and effort that made this issue possible.

I would like to request all our members/ anns/ annettes to share their special insights with the Rotarians,

family members and friends of Rotary by submitting an article, jokes, recipes, poems, etc. to me at

[email protected]

HAVE A GREAT YEAR 2014.
