RIVERTON PRIMARY CAMPUS 16th May 2017 http://rivertonprimary.wa.edu.au/ PHONE 9457 2644 A Message from the Principals Having spent a number of weeks on Long Service Leave at the end of last term and at the start of this term, it is good to return to the campus refreshed and a little more relaxed. I have enjoyed the break, spending part of it overseas in Laos and some of it here at home. I would like to thank Ms Sturgeon for her hard work doing my job whilst I was away, as well as all the others who stepped up into roles or filled in while I was away. Laos was a beautiful country that we really enjoyed visiting, and it was a wonderful learning experience for me. It simply reinforced to me the importance of getting out and seeing the world when you can. I have returned at a particularly busy time with our students involved in many events both inside and outside the classroom. Last week our Year 3 and Year 5 students, along with students across the nation participated in the NAPLAN testing program and I thank Mrs O’Connell and the teachers involved for their organisation and administration of the testing program. Thank you also to the parents for your support during the week. The results and data will be returned to the school and to parents later in the year. Our Edu Dance program continues to build with the students learning the choreography, practising and working together to develop their skills and teamwork, with the ultimate goal of a performance for the community later in the term. Thank you to everyone for their participation. Our girls will showcase their football skills on Friday at the AFL carnival for girls at Sutherland Park in Gosnells. We wish them all the best in their endeavours and I am sure they will acquit themselves very well on the field. Thank you in advance for the parents who are able to come along and support he girls and thanks to Mr Brooks and Mrs London for their preliminary work and organisation. The P&C have organised a Chess Club for our students who have been given an opportunity to play the games in the library every Tuesday before school. It is a fantastic venture and I thank the P&C for their organisation and support. I am certain the students will have challenging and wonderful sessions, really using those mathematical and logical skills to try and win what is a complex game. Please remember that our campus has a School Development Day on Friday 2 nd June. This is a student free day and our staff members will be attending the Riverton Rossmoyne Network Conference at Murdoch University with a focus on building student resilience as well as other curriculum related matters.
