The Riverbank Local Redevelopment Authority will be recognized with the Base

Redevelopment Excellence Award from the Association of Defense Communities.

The LRA was nominated and ultimately selected, for its work in redeveloping the

Riverbank Industrial Complex as it undergoes transfer from federal to local control.

The Defense Community Awards program recognizes those communities, installations,

public officials and military leaders that demonstrate leadership, innovation and

excellence.

The ADC awards presentation will take place at the 2nd Annual Congressional Breakfast

Awards Ceremony on Capitol Hill on Thursday, June 5th. The LRA will also be

recognized throughout the Defense Communities National Summit June 4-6 in

Washington D.C.

The LRA recently completed the removal,

cleaning, and/or disposal of personal property

suspected to be contaminated with polychlo-

rinated biphenyls (PCBs) within the former

Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant (RAAP)

An estimated 4,973 tons of PCB was removed

from the buildings, decontaminated and

staged for sampling and disposal based on the

on-site scales.

A total of 4,083 tons have been shipped off-

site for landfill disposal; remaining equipment

will be available for lease or sale.

By now many of you have seen us utilizing these new vehicles around the site, many have wondered what they are and where they came from? Five vehicles were granted to the Riverbank Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA). Congratulations to Melissa Holdaway from the LRA for making this happen! LRA staff found out about the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District grant at Green Team San Joaquin’s annual REXPO recycling exposition in Stockton last year. The LRA will designate two utility truck vehicles to the complex’s facility management company for use in maintaining the 174-acre facility. Two Trikkes will be put into operation for delivery of mail and trips to City Hall. As for the fifth, a patrol vehicle, it will be utilized by security when making rounds of the site.

New Locomotive for Sierra Northern Railway

After 9 months of construction, Sierra Northern Railway is ready to commission its newly

converted eco-friendly, self-assembled, railroad locomotive, which is being used on trains to

Riverbank and into the Riverbank Industrial Complex.

This is the second eco-friendly renovation Sierra Northern has made to its fleet. However, they

plan to continue working with the San Joaquin Valley Air District to procure additional funding to

convert more locomotives with the long-term goal of replacing the entire Sierra Northern fleet with

eco-friendly locomotives.

The Riverbank division of Donaldson Company, Inc. has won the prestigious Chairman’s Cup. The

Chairman’s Cup is awarded quarterly to one of 17 North American Donaldson plants that achieve

the highest cumulative score on key performance metrics including: employee safety, product

quality, inventory, and customer delivery.

This is the first time the Riverbank plant has won this award. Riverbank is particularly proud of this

accomplishment considering they are one of the smaller plants in Donaldson. Congratulations to

David Sperle the Riverbank Plant Manager and the whole Riverbank team on setting a great

example of our spirit of continuous improvements and service to the Donaldson customers.
