“Ballet in Black and White” concert
will present various dance works
giving the audience a feel for the
many faces and evolution of ballet.
Featured is Giselle Act II, a white act
from the romantic period. Giselle has
been dubbed the Hamlet of ballets and
is the most important ballet of the
romantic era. Flowing white tutus
moving to Adam’s melodious music is
truly awe inspiring. Guest artists
Jessica Fry McAlister and Ramon
Gaitan will dance the lead roles of
Giselle and Albrecht. Continuing the
journey through dance will be Secrets
choreographed in the classical style, a
contemporary pas de deux and
culminating in the haunting Matrix a
fusion of ballet and jazz.
Thumbelina is the featured ballet for
RRB’s Children’s Matinee. It is an
original ballet by artistic director
Susan Ferrara based on the colorful
fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson.
RRB’s Jr. Company members are
featured in this ballet led by Jr.
Company dancer Kate Lougon in the
title role of Thumbelina. Our youngest
audience members are encouraged to
come dressed as their favorite fairy,
flower or garden bug. After the
Children’s Matinee (Saturday March
23 3:00pm) guests will be invited on
stage to meet RRB’s cast, get
autographs and save the memory with
a photograph! Of course Thumbelina
will have a special treat for all their
new friends. Thumbelina will also be
performed Sunday March 24 at 2:00
pm in conjunction with “Ballet in

RRB Giving Back to the Community
The River Region Ballet continues its dedication to bring the arts to the
community through public performances and several outreach
programs. RRB company and Jr. company dancers performed a
Winter Show for the residents of Ormond Nursing and Care Center and
Luling Nursing Home. RRB also performed a school performance for
the St. Charles Parish Schools as well as a children’s Sugar Plum
Matinee. Members of the Jr. Company are instrumental in these
programs. Besides opportunities for public performances and
community outreach projects, Jr. company members participate in
several dance workshops designed especially for them. In November
Jessica Fry McAlister, RRB’s Sugar Plum Fairy, tutored them in ballet
in preparation for Nutcracker. After recuperating from Nutcracker
performances and the holidays, members attended a workshop given by
the McTeggart Irish Dancers. Excitement ruled the day as RRB’s
dancers absorbed every nugget of information and were privy to a
private performance.

RIVER REGION DRAMA GUILD’S SUMMER PRODUCTION
JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
The River Region Drama Guild’s summer production will be Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; with lyrics by
Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. This Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in
a delightful musical parable. Set to engaging musical styles from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n'
roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless. The play is based on
the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. Its fam-
ily-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music all contribute to the success
of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat over the years.
The play is set in a frame in which a narrator is telling a story, sometimes to chil-
dren, encouraging them to dream. The storyteller then tells the story of Joseph, an-
other dreamer. At the beginning of the story Jacob, Joseph’s father, and his 12 sons
are introduced. Joseph's brothers are jealous of him for his coat of many colors, a
symbol of their father's preference for him. It is clear from Joseph's dreams that he is
destined to rule over them. To get rid of him and prevent the dreams from coming
true, the brothers attempt to kill their brother, but then they sell Joseph as a slave to
some passing Ishmaelite, who takes Joseph to Egypt from there the story and drama
continues.
This production is directed by Lucas Harms; musical director is Brenda Castillo and
the chorographer is Kate Pendergast. Tickets will go on sale on May 1st for the June
13 – 16 performances at Destrehan Auditorium. Additional information when avail-
able will be on our website www.rrpa.org.
