Join us at the Ritherdon Road Street Party, Sunday May 22!

The annual Ritherdon Road Street Party explodes in size on Sunday 22nd May with a music stage, over 60 stallholders and entertainers, and the road closed to traffic for the very first time.

Join us in celebrating one of London’s friendliest communities and this lovely parade of independent cafés and shops located

in SW17 between Balham and Tooting Bec. Ritherdon Road perfectly illustrates the special community value that derives from the existence of locally-run independent businesses.

You’ll find full details of the event overleaf. For those who’ve been to the Street Party before you can expect it to be bigger, bubblier and brighter than ever; while those who’ve never been can look forward to the very best streetfood, drink, stalls, family entertainment and camaraderie this side of... well, pretty much anywhere.

For making this event possible, the traders of Ritherdon Road would like to thank our main sponsors Jacksons Estate Agents as well as People for Places Leisure, Pawesome and the rest of our partners. We’d also like to thank our local customers for whom the event is created: your support and friendship are appreciated more than you could know.

See you on Sunday 22nd!

With the road closed, this year’s Ritherdon Road Street Party will be bigger than ever, featuring over 50 food stalls, boutique traders and exhibitors: from ice cream, halloumi and chilli dogs to jewellery, luxury pet treats, quirky fashion and handmade toys.

You can spend time in the Sambrook’s beer tent, gorge on a Lamberts brisket, taste a Whirly Wine or mix it up with the other street regulars Quirky Dovetail, Bodean’s, Robbie’s Photographics, Dee Light Bakery, Spectrum, The French Café and Gallery Midnight.

This year the introduction of a music stage adds a dynamic focus to the event, with The Thumping Tommys, Tony Bowen and Tony Moore sharing the bill with The Balham Ukelele Society and The Haywood Sisters, plus jazz, ballet, exercise classes and salsa!

There’ll be games and giggles aplenty for the kids too, with The Ministry of Giggles, a funfair ride, giant games and bubbles and balloons with Sassy Steve.

The event is made possible by Jacksons Estate Agents (supporting Beyond Autism) plus Places for People Leisure (Balham Leisure Centre/Tooting Bec Lido) and dog walkers Pawesome.

Come to Ritherdon Road on Sunday 22nd May and join the fun!

BeyondAutism empowers people with autism to lead fuller lives through positive educational experiences, training for the people who work with them and support for their families and carers.

They run Rainbow School, an Independent Special School offering specialist education and support for children and young people with autism aged 4-19. The school is located across two sites in Wandsworth and was founded in 2000 by parents of children with autism. They deliver transformative education to 68 students from 16 Local Authorities across South and Central London, plus tailored outreach and training services to parents, carers, professionals and schools.

Experts in educating children and young people with autism, the school applies the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behaviour (VB) to teach students and arm them with the life-skills they need to live as independent a life as possible – from speech and language, self-care and motor skills, right through to reading, writing and maths.

Tram House AppealBeyondAutism are currently seeking to raise £1.5 million to redevelop one of their existing school buildings (‘Tram House’) into a world-class school for secondary and 6th Form students with autism. The new school will not only create more urgently needed specialist places, but provide a strong foundation to educate hundreds of

students over the decades to come, helping their families and society in.

For more information about the Tram House Redevelopment Appeal, please contact Naomi Glancy on 020 3031 9705 or [email protected].

ANDY: We see couples when they’ve just met, when they set up home and then with their children; our customers become friends. As for the party, I love the British fair tradition: cakes, tombolas...everything!

DAVID: We appeal toa wide audience but most or our business is from the local community, which has a fantastic friendly village feel about it. The party is now a tradition: it bonds the traders together; plus it’s simply a great day!

DEAN: It’s our first year on the parade – we noticed the lack of a high quality dry cleaner in the area – and the community atmosphere is amazing. The street party shows just how the community gets behind small businesses.

DEE: It’s great community support that helps us make a social hub where people can be made happy by our passionate bakersand baristas. The party brings people together and is our way of saying thank you to our customers.

RON: We’re lucky to be in a street with a village feel, where all the traders are independent businesses, each offering a unique product or service. I support the party because it encourages friendship and fun - it’s that simple!

SIMON: I live locally andwalk my dog on the Common: the area has such a nice feel about it. It’s important as a group of shops, each of whom does something unique, that we support each other. The party’s great for that.

THE TEAM AT BODEAN’S: It’s the people! We love the close-knit community surrounding us here. As for the event, who doesn’t love a party?! We are always looking for fun ways to support our local neighbourhood.

JOHNY: The community is great: each time I step outside there’s someoneto say hello to. And we’re all independent businesses: so, ironically, we stick together. The party isabout us appreciatingour customers.

We love the Street Party and running businesses in Ritherdon Road because....
