Our officers need a less academic, simple to understand training they can take to the streets immediately. We need better ways to communicate with our mouths, to De-Escalate situations more effectively.” RITE: We hear you loud and clear, and we are ready to bring it! COURSE OBJECTIVES RITE Academy brings Cultural Diversity training into today’s standards, that improves officer wellness, increases departmental morale, and builds community policing and trust. RITE uses unique EI and SI (Intelligence) tools, that help officers De-escalate situations using better verbal communication. What is RITE or Racial Intelligence (RI) Racial Intelligence helps us gain awareness of our emotions (EI), to improve situational awareness and conflict management when engaging with others (SI), which builds communications skills helping the officer De-escalate situations. The RITE Model is EI+SI=RI Emotional Intelligence (EI) is learning to become aware of our emotions, and to acknowledge that emotions drive behavior that can impact others (positively and negatively). Learning to manage emotions, in the moment, is crucial to De-escalation. Social Intelligence (SI) is how we effectively navigate and negotiate all social relationships and situations. Learning and using your EI, is valuable to improving your SI. RITE training improves departmental policy and oversight. Many of the calls officers handle are non-life threatening (to the officer), yet unnecessary escalated calls continue to grow. RITE provides the officer with EI and SI communication tools, giving them the simple skills to De-escalate more often. This protects the officer, the community and the department.
