15mins before start – Setting up board

Each teams FIELD TACTICIAN rolls the dice. Highest number starts, then it goes clockwise.

In turn each LOGISTICS PERSONNEL will place one army piece on a territory. The GENERALS will liaise with the LOGISTICS PERSONNEL as where to put the army units. All teams take it in turns until all territories are occupied. With remaining army units you then add to your currently owned territories and build them up either defensively or offensively.

When all army units are used then game is ready to start. Team that placed the first army unit starts.

Start

The GENERALS will be on the upper balcony in their allocated team areas. The rest of the team will be seated under their GENERALS on the gym floor.

The GENERALS can choose to either MOVE INFANTRY or ATTACK.

MOVE INFANTRY: to move army units you can only move to a neighbouring territory that you already occupy. You cannot move from one side of the map to the other side in one go. If you want to move across a continent you must go through each territory to get to the other side. Territories that are occupied by other armies will need to be ATTACKED to get there.

ATTACK: You attack when you move into a territory that is occupied by another army. The territory must be a neighbouring territory. To attack a neighbouring territory you need a minimum of two army units. (One unit must always be left so that if you win the challenge you still retain control of that territory. By moving all your army units out you leave the territory empty for anyone to just move in without a fight.

Page 2: RISK Instructions

In this scenario the red army could attack with a max of 3 units (leaving one behind to keep control of the territory). Blue could attack with 2 max, green could attack with 1 max and yellow wouldn’t attack as it would leave that territory empty for anyone to move into without having to challenge for it.

Red could challenge 3 against 3 of blue, or two against two of green or 1 against 1 of yellow.

Blue could challenge 2 against two of red or two against 2 of green. They couldn’t challenge yellow as they are not a neighbouring territory.

Green could challenge 1 against 1 of red or 1 of blue or 1 of yellow.

So after you decide if you are going to move or attack you write on your pad the co-ordinates of your play and the number of units you’ll be playing with to indicate to your LOGISTICS PERSONNEL and the other teams what you will be doing.

If you want to MOVE units then the LOGISTICS PERSONNEL will move your army units from the co-ordinates you hold up. EG. A3 – B1 – 2 units. Remember you can only move from A3 – B1 if you already occupy A3.

If you want to ATTACK then the SERGEANT MAJOR will send out one challenger from your team straight away. The SERGEANT MAJOR of the defending team must also send out one challenger. The FIELD TACTICIAN for each team will roll the dice. The team that rolls the highest number will be able to choose what type of challenge they would like to have, leaning toward their strengths.

PHYSICAL

INTELLECTUAL

CREATIVE

Once chosen then the two opponents will take part in the challenge. If the ATTACKING army wins then their LOGISTICS PERSONNEL will move the number of army units they attacked with into the defending armies territory and then the defending army units will be taken off the map and given to the UNITED NATIONS PEACE KEEPERS .

If the ATTACKING army loses then they lose the number of army units they attacked with and they are given to the UNITED NATIONS PEACE KEEPERS and the defending army units will remain where they are.

Play is then passed on to the next team and they will decide if they want to MOVE or ATTACK and so on and so on.

The winner is the team that occupies the most territories at the end of the night. Bonus points will be given to teams that occupy a whole continent.

It is important that the flow of the game is kept running at a fast pace so the SERGEANT MAJOR must be ready to send someone out at any moment. Also the GENERALS must be constantly thinking

Page 3: RISK Instructions

about their next move so when it’s their turn they can execute play straight away. The UNITED NATIONS PEACE KEEPERS will endeavour to keep the game moving along and penalties will be incurred if play comes to a standstill.

Let’s step through a round.

Say I am the Red Army. After consultation with my GENERALS we decide to ATTACK the Green Army. We would write down on our pad in large letters

A3 – B1 – 2 unitsThe Green Army would see that they are being attacked and the SERGEANT MAJOR in both the Red and Green armies would send out a challenger. Once on the floor the FIELD TACTICIAN for each team would roll the dice.

The team with the highest number wins and they can choose what type of challenge to take part in. If the numbers are the same you re-roll until someone gets a higher number.

The Challenges are PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL or CREATIVE. The two challengers will then take part in a short challenge. If the Red Army wins then the LOGISTICS PERSONNEL on the red team will move two of their red army units into B1 and the two green army units will be removed and given to the UNITED NATIONS PEACE KEEPERS.

If the Green Army wins then two of the red army units will be removed from A3 and given to the UNITED NATIONS PEACE KEEPERS and the Green army units will remain where they are.
