Rise of a New Era: Advancing Towards 50B Connected Devices The promise of hyper-connected communities, industries and societies requires the connectivity of billions of devices about and around us; from smartphone to wearable, from home to work, from vehicle to machinery, from industry to healthcare, etc. This is the next wave digital transformation where smart connected everything will create huge economic benefits in every vital sectors of the economy and unleash new opportunities that can improve and save lives, boost human productivity, increase agricultural yield and enable a new industrial revolution with self-learning machines, robots, etc. This extraordinary growth of connected everything will drive an explosive growth of mobile data, scarcity of wireless spectrum, exposure to unprotected data, risk of data privacy and will require governments to heavily investment in fundamental technologies like Internet, mobile, storage and artificial intelligence as well as in education for the workforce to utilize connected devices as tools to improve productivity. Also required are pragmatic policies both nationally and globally for enabling rapid innovation as we build a secure brighter future together. Smarter Security & Privacy Innovators and entrepreneurs need to proactively secure devices, cloud and applications that can control things in the physical world as well as privacy of user data.!New architectures will prevail that interconnect clusters of architectures of connected devices through identity, category, capability, service and security profile.!
Smarter Innovation Funds Government investment of $B’s in research for advancing fundamental technologies is today at the core of our digital society e.g. Internet, mobile, battery, hard drive, memory chip, Siri, etc. Continued investment will be needed in basic building blocks that enable innovation.!• Public-Private partnership will be key for large
scale IoT infrastructure projects. !• $B’s of private investment in R&D required for
enterprise and consumer use cases. !
Smarter Policies & Laws Data in the cloud will be moved around depending on business benefits making it difficult, if not impossible, to decide which law should apply and under which jurisdiction.!Additional policies and laws are required to protect individual’s privacy while allowing anonymized meta data to move around freely.!
Smarter Workforce Creation More and more businesses are focused on automation and increased employee productivity.!Education and training are required for blue collar workers to transform into a digital empowered workforce leveraging!• Smartphones, fablets, tablets!• Mobile Apps!• and other smart devices!as part of their working tools.! !
