Have you thought of spreading your impact like dropping a tiny object into a static pond and watching it move across the water?

This year, with the theme of Social Innovation, Ripples International Conference 2013 will be held by AIESEC-LC-HKU to create ripples in the ocean of Social Enterprise (SE) in the Asia Pacific region!

Ripples International Conference, a must-go conference organized by AIESEC-LC-HKU, has been held for more than four years. For years, AIESEC-LC-HKU has been committed to providing the best conference learning environment as well as an enlightening, interesting, creative and interactive platform for all of you, and Ripples International Conference 2013 will not be an exception. Hong Kong, as an international financial centre with lots of business opportunities and innovative ideas, is the best place for us to view social enterprises through different lenses.

In the modern times of rapid change and technological advancement, more and more focus is placed on innovation and creativity. Have you ever considered mixing the concepts of ‘creativity’ and ‘society’ and see the reaction that they produce?

That is the idea of Social Innovation. The key concept of Social Innovation is to leverage youth’s creativity to create sustainable solutions to social problems, thus bringing favourable influences to our society. It is about self-initiated breakthroughs. As we are the leaders of tomorrow, it is essential that we use this concept to make the world a better place.

But Social Innovation seems to be a very vague concept - how exactly is this concept put into action?

The answer is: through Social Entrepreneurship

The answer is through: Social Entrepreneurship.

Unlike most commercial entities, social enterprises do not aim at maximizing their profits or benefiting their investors. Instead, they exist to achieve certain social and environmental goals, e.g. create job opportunities for disadvantaged groups or provide products and services to aid the elderly.

Many of them always come up with innovative as well as people-friendly solutions to fulfil different social objectives. They hold their faith of putting social aims as their primary goal, hoping to make an impact on society and to change the world for the common good. Social enterprise actually plays an important role in our community’s development.

In recent years, more and more people in different parts of the world have stepped into this field and tried to solve the problems that governments have failed to. Social Entrepreneurs believe that everyone can do something to make surprisingly positive changes to society- why are you still hesitating?

With at least 1/3 of the delegates and facilitators coming from other countries, we guarantee a wide range of ideas from different perspectives, which is vital to the process of idea generation.

Moreover, events like Global Village allow cultural exchange and also give you a great chance to

1. INTERNATIONAL SETTING

Leading social entrepreneurs and organizations are to be invited to give speeches and share their views on the current situation of social enterprises in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific Region. We do not expect you to know a lot about this topic; thus discussions and in-depth sharing serve as a good way for you to gain more knowledge on the subject!

Social Innovation is about trial and error. Mere discussion is not enough. Thus we shall include sessions which enable you to learn through experience.

The Ripples Day will involve an on-street campaign,

giving you a chance to interact with the local community and raise the public’s awareness of certain social issues.

Further visits to social enterprises in Hong Kong will

give you a glimpse of the daily operation of these institutions!

For non-AIESECers, a one-hour interactive session will be arranged shortly after your application. Admission to participate in conference is subject to your attendance and performance in the challenge session.

The result will be announced on 22nd April 2013. For the approved delegates, you will receive another online form to send your receipt to confirm your attendance. If we do not receive it on 25th April 2013(23:59 GMT+8), your seat will be reallocated to someone else.

For International Delegates, we will issue you a confirmation letter together with your name and passport details in order for you to apply for a visa. Meanwhile, you can check the Immigration Department website to see if you need to apply for a visa.

2) Purchase of Insurance

Purchase of Insurance is a must for INTERNATIONAL DELEGATES to attend this to ensure their safety. The organizing committee will not be liable for any damage or accidents that you suffer during the conference. Please purchase insurance as soon as possible once you receive the confirmation letter.
