PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

WELCOME BACK

A big welcome back to all students and families after the holiday break. We hope the two weeks holiday has

helped students to clear a few bugs from their systems and be re-energised ready for a busy term.

Over the holidays there has been considerable work in our grounds. Our playground space has been cleared,

a site established for re-locating the shelter shed, three water tanks have been sited beside the big shed and

an area ready for paving has been established. While the recent heavy rains haven’t helped, over the coming

weeks, these areas will dry out and works will be completed.

Our thanks to Mick Mancs from Axedale Bobcat and Mick Molloy from Axedale Plumbing for their

continued support of our school. It is much appreciated.

PLAYGROUND

Attached to today’s Newsletter is a plan of the playground approved by School Council. The playground has

been ordered and installation is expected this term.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held next Tuesday 23rd

July. Notes were sent home earlier in the week and

are due back at school tomorrow.

TERM THREE CALENDAR

Attached to the Newsletter today is a calendar outlining most of the events that are on during this term. May

be a good idea to pop it on the fridge and add other items as they come up.

WELCOME NEW FAMILY

We welcome a new family to our school. Max (Gr. 6), Josh (Gr. 5) and Sam (Gr. 2) began with us on

Monday. Our other students have done a great job helping them to settle to our school. We welcome their

mother Siobhan to our school community.

CONGRATULATIONS

Our school community sends its congratulations to Junny and Fritzi Caburnay on the birth of Paul Craig, a

beautiful little brother for John, Ed and Margarette.

THANKS SCOTT AND WENDY

Many thanks to Scott and Wendy for their efforts over the holidays. They gave the school a mow, a whipper

snip and a tidy up with the blower.

CLEANER

Linda Kendall began work as our new Cleaner on Monday. We look forward to having Linda as part of the

school staff.

AASC

Our Active After School Communities Program starts again on Tuesday 30th

July. This term, the students

will be learning the skills of Dancing on Tuesdays and Hockey on Wednesdays. There is no cost for

involvement in this program.

HEAD LICE CHECKS

Head lice checks will be completed again tomorrow morning. Thanks to our checkers for their efforts and to

all parents for working with us proactively to eradicate lice.

CWA CRAFT MARKET DAY

On Saturday 27th

the CWA will be conducting a come and try craft day during the next Community Market

at the Axedale Hall. The school will have a promotional display area set up on the day. We intend to display

many of the mosaics that the students have made as well as the great paintings completed by the 4/5/6 grade

last term. We hope to have some students working on other mosaics and paintings during the Market Day. If

your child/children are keen to be a part of this, please contact the school.

PARENT REPRESENTATIVES – SCHOOL COUNCIL

Our School Council is made up of six Parent Representatives and four Staff Representatives. The role of the

Parent Reps is to bring questions and ideas from the school community to School Council for discussion as

well as sharing outcomes from discussions held at School Council.

To promote greater access to this process for parents, School Council has divided school families into six

groups and have aligned each group to a specific Councillor.

If you have an item or question that needs to be brought to School Council, please contact your allotted

School Councillor. Alternatively, if you have a question regarding School Council decisions, your allotted

Councillor or the Principal may be contacted.

If an item that requires considerable community consultation arises at a School Council level, Parent Reps

may choose to contact all of their allotted families to collect information and opinions.

An information sheet about allocated Parent Reps is attached to the Newsletter.

From a Principal’s perspective, the school is very fortunate to have a School Council that is proactive,

positive, supportive and balanced in its discussions and decisions.

TRAFFIC POLICY

Just a reminder to new and existing school families regarding our pick up and drop off area on Raglan St.

West (dirt road at the back of the school).

Parents are asked to enter Raglan St. West from the Axedale-Goornong Rd. end and leave by heading

towards the Bendigo side of the school yard. This way, school traffic is basically heading in one direction

only. We would like parents to park only on the school side of the road (when space is available) to

eliminate the need for students to cross the road to get to cars. If spaces are not available on the school side,

then parents are asked to collect their children and walk them safely across the road. Staff parking is

provided on the opposite side of the road. Students waiting for parents are expected to wait inside the school

grounds. Your co-operation in ensuring our students and your children are safe is appreciated.

ZONE SOCCER CANCELLED

Our division of the Loddon Zone Soccer Championships next Wednesday has been cancelled as the grounds

hosting the events have had maintenance carried out and are no longer available. Families who have already

paid will have this money placed into their accounts for future use. If you would prefer a refund, please

contact the school.

CENTACARE SESSIONS

Attached to the Newsletter today is some information about upcoming Centacare sessions.

EMA

The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is provided to assist eligible families with the costs

associated with the education of their children. Parents and guardians may be eligible for the EMA if they

have a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card. The second instalment of the EMA

is due to be paid from late August onwards.

Parents/guardians whose children have transferred to Axedale Primary School since 28th

February

2013, or have since become eligible, will need to submit a new EMA application form.

Applications close on 2nd

August 2013. Application forms are available from the school office.

Parents who lodged an EMA application at our school at the beginning of the year do not need to lodge

another EMA application to receive the second instalment.

CONVEYANCE ALLOWANCE

A Conveyance Allowance is available for eligible students using private cars to attend school. To be

eligible a student must live more than 4.8km by the shortest practicable route from the nearest school or bus

stop. Please come into the office by the 16th

of August to complete an application form if you are eligible.

ORIENTEERING AT AXEDALE GOLF COURSE If you’ve ever wondered what Orienteering is, now’s your

chance to experience this enjoyable pastime in the familiar

environment of the Axedale Golf Course and Public Reserve.

On Sunday, August 25, 2013 the Axedale Golf Club Social

Committee is hosting a ‘come and try it’ Orienteering event.

Orienteering is an international sport where participants use a

professionally-prepared map to find ‘controls’ (orange and

white markers) located at points designated on the map.

The Orienteering at Axedale will consist of a low key one-

hour ‘Score’ event, starting at 3PM. Participants will be

provided with a map and instructions and will have a one hour

time limit to locate as many controls as they can. Community

members are welcome to attend and are advised to arrive at the

Axedale Golf Club clubhouse between 2 and 2.30PM so that

organisers can give out maps and instructions. As you will be

walking around the Golf Course for an hour, you should wear

comfortable clothing and footwear. Cost will be $5 per

participant, and at the conclusion of the event the Club will

offer a sausage sizzle at an additional cost of $5.

Enquiries can be directed to Daryl Fleay, on 54394465.

We hope to see you there. If you intend to come, could you

please give Daryl a call (for organisational and catering

purposes).

Sid Spofforth, Axedale Golf Club Social Committee.
