Thank you to all the individuals and clubs that submitted the fun and creative fair

theme entries, it was a hard decision.

encouraged to purchase plants from Blueville Nursery the day of the event to use

during the program. The event takes place at Blueville Nursery on Saturday, April 18th from 10:00-11:00 am.

Become a camp counselor– Influence a life

Are you passionate about 4-H, working, with youth, or simply

wanting to have a great experience this summer? Sign up and become

one of our 4-H Counselors. We are currently looking for individuals

ages 14-19 years old to come be a part of our 4-H summer camp at

Rock Springs campground, June 18-21, with Counselor training on

June 17th & 18th. Start by filling out an application at

www.riley.ksu.edu. Look on the right-hand side for the link.

Application are due May 15th.

Monthly Photo Showcase

Because of my own passion for photography, but also because I

have seen so many amazing photographs taken by our Riley

County 4-Hers, I wanted to start a new monthly photo post right

here in our newsletter. Readers will submit electronically a

picture they have themselves taken. Please include a brief

description of when and where the photo was taken. We will

then review the photos each month, then select one to be

displayed in the monthly newsletter. Send all photos and

captions to my email at [email protected] by the 10th of each

month. Get Started!

48 Hours of 4-H In October, Riley County 4-Her Katie Messerla took charge

of planning our 48 Hour of 4-H 5K Run/ Walk. With the

support of local 4-H families and local business we were

able to make the event a tremendous success. All proceeds

from the event were put back into the community with

dollar donations made to (3) Riley County schools. This

year we are looking for interested parties to take on an

equally impactful challenge. The dates for 48 Hours of 4-H are October 10-11, 2015. Please contact Mr. Jobe

at the Riley County Extension Office or email at [email protected] with questions, or ideas.

Dropping and Adding Projects

Please remember that May 1 is the last date to drop or add projects in your 4-H Online account. If you have

not gotten around to making this happen please take care of this today so our system has an accurate account

of what your 4-Her is enrolled in for the 2015 year.

Project Leaders All project leaders names must be on file with Riley County Extension Office by May 1st. This is especially

important for livestock because as stated in the fair rules “no adult other than immediate family or a Riley

County project leader for that specie may assist with the fitting or grooming of any animal after arriving at the

fairgrounds”. Contact the Riley County Extension office with questions.

activities, fun tours, and great evening social events. You will meet new people, build

leadership skills and grow as a person. The Discovery Days Task Force, speakers and instructors are excited

you are coming and are making preparations so you can have an energetic, action packed, in-depth learning

experience! This years event takes place on May 26-29, 2015 on the campus of Kansas State University.

Walk Kansas for Kids 2015 Currently many Kansans are participating in the 2015 Walk Kansas program; a team-based program that will

help you and others lead a healthier life by being more active,

making better nutritional choices, and learning positive ways to

deal with stress. But this series continues year-round for all

Kansas youth, encouraging kids grades 1st-6th to get active

through fun and challenging activities. Walk Kansas for kids is

designed to improve the health of all Kansas children by

encouraging them to eat a variety of healthy foods and increase

the amount of physical activity they participate in each week.

This would be a great activity for 4-H community clubs to take on,

or put out there for their members.

Check out Walk Kansas for Kids at www.walkkansas.org/kids or contact Ginny Barnard at the Riley County

Extension office to get a kit. (785)-537-6350

Kids Ag. Day 2015

Wednesday, April 29th. The event provides young people the

opportunity to explore where their food comes from, whether its

through livestock or different grains. Stations will be set up allowing

all youth in attendance the chance to have an amazing hands on

experience.

Campference

The Kansas 4-H Youth Leadership Council is excited to plan and host 4-H Campference. This event is focused

on "betweenagers," youth ages 12-14, and will be held May 31- June 3, 2015 at Rock Springs 4-H Center.

Participants will experience the feel of a conference, while enjoying the "camp" activities Rock Springs 4-H

Center has to offer. Visit www.kansas4-h.org and click on “4-H Event Registration” to learn more.
