waters, from the stone:

our home.

fled in sundry ways.

3 He made himself by might ord of all living things, and strong in vital $ower waed

great above them all.He, borne on high, o&ers$read with light the heaven and earth, and, sewing u$ the turbid

dar'ness, "losed it in.

7 He with his might made firm the forward5bending hills, the downward rushing of the

waters he ordained.Fast he u$held the earth that nourisheth all life, and stayed the heaven from falling by his

wondrous s'ill.8 Fit for the gras$ing of his arms is what the Sire hath fabri"ated from all 'ind of $re"ious

(ome thou with fifty well trained "oursers, ndra, sity or seventy, to drin' the Soma.

8 (ome to us hitherward, O ndra, "arried by eighty, ninety, or an hundred horses.This Soma >ui"e among the Sunahotras hath been $oured out, in love, to glad thee, ndra.

To this my $rayer, O ndra, "ome thou hither: bind to thy "ar&s $ole all thy two -ay

So that the Bui"'ening "urrents of the rivers flowed forth li'e birds unto their resting5

$la"es./ ndra, this ighty One, the +ragon&s slayer, sent forth the flood of waters to the o"ean.

He gave the Sun his life, he found the "attle, and with the night the wor's of days"om$leted.3 To him who worshi$$eth hath ndra given many and mat"hless gifts. He slayeth 2rtra.

Straight was he to be sought with su$$li"ations by men who struggled to obtain the

sunlight.7 To him who $oured him gifts he gave u$ Surya,5ndra, the 6od, the ighty, to the

For Ctasa with worshi$ brought him ri"hes that 'ee$ distress afar, as &twere his $ortion.8 On"e to the driver of his "hariot, *utsa, he gave u$ greedy Surya, $lague of harvest)

And ndra, for the sa'e of +ivodasa demolished Sambara&s nine5and5ninety "astles.

So have we brought our hymn to thee, O ndra, strengthening thee and fain ourselves

for glory.ay we with best endeavours gain this friendshi$, and mayst thou bend the godless

forth in heaven,

The awful "ar, -rhas$ati, that Buells the foe, slays demons, "leaves the stall of 'ine, and

finds the light.3 Thou leadest with good guidan"e and $reservest men) distress o&erta'es not him who

offers gifts to thee.

Him who hates $rayer thou $unishest, -rhas$ati, Buelling his wrath: herein is thy greatmightiness.

7 Do sorrow, no distress from any side, no foes, no "reatures double5tongued have

over"ome the man,5Thou drivest all sedu"tive fiends away from him whom, "areful guard, thou 'ee$est

-rahmanas$ati.

8 Thou art our 'ee$er, wise, $re$arer of our $aths: we, for thy servi"e, sing to thee with

hymns of $raise.-rhas$ati, whoever lays a snare for us, him may his evil fate, $re"i$itate, destroy.

Him, too, who threatens us without offen"e of ours, the evilminded, arrogant, ra$a"ious

Him turn thou from our $ath away, -rhas$ati: give us fair a""ess to this banBuet of the6ods.

; Thee as $rote"tor of our bodies we invo'e, thee, saviour, as the "omforter who lovethus.

Stri'e, O -rhas$ati, the 6ods& revilers down, and let not the unrighteous "ome to highest

whi"h all desire:

And all our enemies, who near or far away $revail against us, "rush, and leave them

destitute.1= 4ith thee as our own ri"h and liberal ally may we, -rhas$ati, gain highest $ower of

life.
