AMCA MOTTO: RIDE’EM - DON’T HIDE’EM
Who Needs aTom Tom ?
According to Wolverine Roger Green, traveling “Old School” on old school motorcycles calls for a brand of old school navigation.
A check of the maps in the morning and at each break in the riding, prompts a new old school “trip tic” to navigate the roads ahead. On this authors bike trips around the U.S, the planning always called for a set of maps, copying each appropriate page of the Rand McNally, yellow marking the planned route, and rotating the pages through the top window of my tank bag as the route progressed. Roger’s method makes this procedure way too civilized for a vintage ride.
If we think about how old time motorcycling heros like Bessie String-field , traveling coast to coast on her Harley Davidson, being forced to sleep on park benches because of her color, or Erwin “Cannonball” Baker, who set a San Diago - New York (3,378 mi.) record of 11 1/2 days in 1914 on an Indian Twin. Both of these cycling heros of the past performed these feats unsupported.
If you crave more information on the subject, Google Wikipedia.org for “List of Long Distance Motorcycle Riders”. An impressive list of mororcycling feats; and thanks Roger, for reminding us, Who needs a Tom Tom?

CHAPTER NEWS
Wolverines Decend on Ashville ( Part 2 of Roger Green’s story)
Leaving Nashville we encountered a problem....lack of fuel at the gas stations. Due to a pipeline break in the south there was a shortage of fuel and the first three stations we went to had no fuel at all. I knew I was close to reserve so what to do? What else but continue on stopping at every station on the way. Within 10 miles we found some regular unleaded. Heading east to Murfreesboro we stopped at the Harley dealer there. I had to get a poker chip and they gave us some freebies and took some pics of our bikes. We turned south here to hit Lynchburg and the Jack Daniels distillery. Nice roads to ride in the area. When we arrived there wasn’t much motorcycle parking and I parked just over a yellow line and was promptly told to move my bike by a burly female security guard. We discovered that they charge for the tour so we just soaked up some AC and bathrooms. A short walk takes you to the town Square, where we went to a BBQ joint for lunch, then we went to some of the stores around the square. When we got back to our bikes I noticed some riders on new bikes. Roger Green
