Pastor’s Points

Our Vision, Mission And Strategy At Fort Caroline Baptist Church

Within Five Years

I spent the month of

January outlining the

process and the

particulars of the

vision God has given

me for our

congregation. I am

calling on our members to embrace this

God-given vision and help me to see it

fulfilled. Briefly stated, it has three

components.

1. Love God. In five years, I see our

church in a new worship center that is

designed for the needs of our growing

congregation. It will be the last building

we can construct on our property. It will

enable us to grow and present a more

attractive face of our church from

McCormick Road. We will also remodel

our current worship facility for our

traditional service, giving more foyer

space to the current worship center and

positioning Senior Adult LifeGroups

around it. This will enable our seniors to

park near the same building in which they

attend LifeGroup and worship without

having to walk through many crowded

hallways. This space will also be a

beautiful place for weddings and

funerals.

We will continue to add worship venues

or multi-site options as the Lord opens

the doors for us to reach more people

with the gospel. We will enhance our

commitment to supporting new churches

that are starting to reach others.

2. Love Others. Within five years, I see

80% of our adult LifeGroups meeting off

campus as space becomes more of a

premium on our limited property. We

will not allow our facilities to dictate how

many people we can accommodate. That

would be like the shoe telling the foot

how big it can grow. We will continue to

have some adult groups on campus, such

as Senior Adult groups. Sunday morning

space for preschoolers, children, students,

and senior adults will be a priority. Off-

campus groups enable us to penetrate our

community with gatherings of believers

in homes where unbelievers may be more

likely to attend. It also allows you to

worship on Sunday in a service, serve on

Sunday in a second hour and still have

your group time. As it is, people often

have to choose between their group or

worship or serving. Over 100 people

already meet in off campus groups. Our

church reimburses for childcare if the

group needs it. To learn more about the

biblical basis and benefits of this, visit

our website and listen to my January 11

sermon, “Growing Larger and Smaller At

The Same Time”. And please remember,

we will not give your group an eviction

notice from our property. But, I believe

more and more people will move to off

campus groups because of the benefits

and because more new groups are starting

as off campus groups.

3. Serve the World. Within five years,

we will penetrate our community with

believers who are living out the values of

Christ in the relationships and

responsibilities of life. Church will no

longer be seen as an event, a location,

and an organization. We will become a

congregation of followers of Jesus who

see ourselves as missionaries to our

homes, community, schools and

workplaces. The church-place will

become the learning-place for the

workplace. We will embrace what we

declare on the sign at the exit of our

property: “You are now entering the

mission field”.

And we will enlist more of our members

to serve in a meaningful ministry on

campus to build a great congregation that

serves members and attenders alike.

I know that you have a million important

questions about how this vision will be

fleshed out. At this time, I am simply

asking for you to trust that God is going

to help us move into the greatest days of

our ministry and lives if we will trust

Him and stay unified. We will work

together to make this the church God

wants us to be. We will face our fears of

the unknown with faith in God. Right

now simply ask God to give you an open

heart to be a part of something that is

bigger than any one of us! To God be the

glory!

Blessings,

Ricky Powell, Senior Pastor

LifeGroup Series

When was the last time you had to make a tough call?

Was it when deciding what to eat for lunch? To drink

Coke or Pepsi? Go to the gym or skip it? The truth is, we

make judgment calls all day long, from what we watch on

TV or who we hang out with to more complicated

decisions like whether to attend a party or stick with a

tough friendship. And, in every decision, we’re forced to

ask the question, “Which option is better?” The problem

is, our natural tendency to judge leaks into places it

shouldn’t - like our relationships. We start thinking

of people as options and deciding which ones are better or

worse. Many of us are even tempted to make those

judgments about ourselves. Unfortunately, most of the

time, we make decisions about people without all the

facts. We don’t know someone’s whole story, their whole

situation, or their whole potential.

We miss the big picture.

Maybe that’s why, in the Bible, God makes it super clear:

Judgment is His call. Not ours.
