Colt .24 has been a dream project for him for the last 5 years. He has always said that he

didn't want to make the movie until he had the experience and resources available. Now,

thanks to crowdfunding, it is possible for him to finally produce this film.

Colt .24 is a short story originally penned by the late Maine horror novelist Rick Hautala.

The story can be found in the anthology entitled Bedbugs.

(Cemetery Dance Productions, 2006)

Rick Hautala sadly passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 2013. He left behind a wealth of

novels and short stories. His skill with the written word was unrivaled in the field of

horror and thriller.

The director of this film adaptation of Colt .24 grew up alongside one of Rick's three sons. David C. Miller spent time in his late teenage years and early twenties getting to know Rick

well as they would sit on the back porch, smoke cigars and talk at length about all the

"silly foibles of life".

Rick helped out as an associate producer on an early film produced by David C. Miller entitled "A Very Careful Man" which was

endorsed by Ray Bradbury as well as being based by Bradbury's short story,

"A Careful Man Dies".

Rick and David talked often of turning one of Rick's stories into a film and Colt .24 was

always on the top of the list. Unfortunately Rick can never see the film adaptation of his work but David is committed to produce the

film in Rick's honor and will create the greatest adaptation he can.

What We Need

We have broken down the essential elements of this movie and have found that it is a

perfect vehicle for a low-budget film that can still show high production value.

Page 18: Rick Hautala

What We Need

The film was picked as a candidate for adaptation based on the promise that it could

be filmed with a small cast with only a few locations needed.

Page 19: Rick Hautala

What We Need

We are asking for 1,000 dollars. Every dime will be spent on the production itself and on

film festival costs.

Page 20: Rick Hautala

Where Your Money Goes

Food: Every cast/crew needs a decent meal and

water on a film set. This is priority 1 for the production.

Page 21: Rick Hautala

Where Your Money Goes

Costumes: The costumes are specific and necessary to

define particular jobs in the film. For instance, we need police uniforms with badges etc.

Page 22: Rick Hautala

Where Your Money Goes

Props: There are not a lot of props needed, but the few we need (like the titular Colt .24 gun) will need to

be purchased or created.

Page 23: Rick Hautala

Where Your Money Goes

Special Effects: David is a firm believer on PRACTICAL special

effects over DIGITAL effects when ever humanly possible. Colt .24 calls for some

blood splatter and gunshots as well as some secret plot-related F/X.

The Impact

Amazing actors and the most professional crew live all through Maine.

They are hungry to work and to show the world what they can accomplish.

Page 25: Rick Hautala

The Impact

Working together we can adapt an amazing piece of horror fiction into an outstanding film.

This film will be a testament to the name of Rick Hautala and to the abundance of movie-

making skill found throughout Maine.
