retreat for those wishing to experience the Masai Mara within an original tented environment.

Forest Camp is set in a beautiful grove of mature trees; an unusual combination of thick riverine forestry and open grassy plains which holds great game year round. It is a quiet and secluded area relatively untouched by tourism; ‘a private wilderness on your doorstep’ along with rare sightings such as wild dog and aardvark.

The diversity of the terrain means that we get the plains game and predators as well as buffalo and elephant. Our bush dinner site at this camp sits on the banks of the river and the hippos literally walk past you as they head for their night grazing.

The tents are positioned in a horseshoe shape, all looking onto a central lawned area where we offer outdoor dining as much as the weather permits. The mess area offers Wi-Fi, very comfy couches and armchairs along with a roaring log fire at night. To the right of the living area is a small boutique and guest toilet.

Each tent comprises of a large bedroom area, behind which there is a dressing room followed by the bathroom. There is an outside seating area attached to the front of each tent, which is very pleasant to enjoy your morning or afternoon tea and enjoy the sounds of the forest around you.

The original ‘Richard’s Camp’, now called the Forest Camp, was built as the home of the Roberts family in 1980 while they were carrying out conservancy work in Ol Choro Conservancy located in the North West Masai Mara. In 2000, Richard took over the small family home along with his girlfriend, Liz Fusco and converted it into a secluded

Nearly all of our staff are of the Masai tribe and their families live within the Mara. The guides at the camp are all Masai and therefore know everything there is to know about the area. All guides are also trained children’s guides and offer gentle activities such as easy bush walks (indentifying different sounds and footprints) and simple crafts such as bow and arrow making. Our chefs have been trained in international cuisine at various kitchens across Kenya and have amassed a wide range of culinary skills and cooking methods.
