Richard Frinier | Biography
A graduate of California State University Long Beach holding a Master of Fine Arts degree, Richard Frinier has been a designer in the home industries for over 25 years with an emphasis on creating
luxurious and experiential furniture for the home and garden. His extreme and personal commitment to design excellence is evident in his inspirational body of work including hundreds of unique product designs.
As the former Creative Director and Chief Creative Officer of Brown Jordan for more than twenty years, Frinier is known throughout the home industries as an expert in his field. He is often credited as being the spirit of the leisure industry and for creating the category of luxury-leisure indoor/outdoor furnishings that removed the boundaries in home design, while fueling and elevating the concept of the outdoor room. He is also credited with raising not only the bar within the industry, but with raising awareness of the leisure category of furniture through weaving and conveying mesmerizing stories about his designs. He has been the recipient of awards for the creation of such compelling visual communications and relevant advertising campaigns in the luxury-market category that have appeared in the pages of America’s finest design trade and shelter publications with the intent of inspiring people to spend more time inside and outside of their own homes in comfort and
surrounded by beautiful things.
An accomplished and respected designer, Frinier’s creative contributions to the home industries are published globally in hundreds of publications, including trade, design, and consumer press, as well as in various design books and major market newsprint. His work is consistently nominated for design awards and has been the recipient of coveted industry awards as presented by ASID, IDSA, ASFD, ADEX, Interior Design magazine, The Resource Council, House & Garden magazine, Home magazine, and no less than 23 Design Excellence Awards from the American Home Furnishing’s Association’s Summer Casusal Furniture Manufacturer’s division, including Best of Category and Best of Show designations. In 1997, 2004, and again in 2005, Frinier was honored by Metropolitan Home magazine, in the company of internationally renowned designers, for creating three of the publications “Top 100 Designs in the World.” This year, in 2006, the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, along with elite national editors and design
professionals, named Frinier as one of their prestigious “Stars of Design” in the product furniture design category, acknowledging the extensive contribution he has made to the industry.
Earlier in his career, Frinier taught advanced furniture manufacturing at the college level for many years and he is known to be a master at working with people, materials and technologies to create high-design furnishings. He credits his teaching experience with strengthening his ability to realize concepts under the most challenging of circumstances. Today, he enjoys touring and lecturing to a variety of audiences, including his client’s companies, architects and interior designers, and furniture retailers worldwide. His passion and enthusiasm for his life’s work is contagious and his enduring accomplishments tell a compelling story.
Frinier continues to travel the world working with his clients identifying new and existing materials that can be used in innovative ways. It is his tremendous appreciation for travel and seemingly vanishing world
cultures that is always highlighted in his creations for the home and garden. And, as he appreciates having been a student and teacher of design, it is his great privilege to support the design trade organizations in America who support design students through scholarship programs. Frinier works in tandem with his wife and partner, Catherine, in California.

Follow the directions on the container. • For removable cushion covers, machine wash in cold water with a mild soap, air dry. • Sunbrella acrylic does not promote mildew growth.
