Contract Interim role undertaking buying and expediting for two Polyethylene Global Engineering Projects; i.e. Canada and Thailand. Combined Spend in excess of £5m. I was responsible for the bid and tender process to the logistics completion of delivery of equipment to site. The equipment purchased included EVS, Gate Valves, HP pipes/fittings, Electrical and Instrumentation.

Nov 2010 – Mar 2011: Contract Site Services Buyer, Brunner Mond Ltd, Northwich, Cheshire

Interim role to cover sick leave for Engineering Purchasing Manager with responsibility for two site services covering construction, electrical and mechanical requirements. Part of Project team for refurbishment of plants at both sites. Budgeted spend was in excess of £30m with main objective to acquire quality contractors to plan, undertake and complete work for year 2011. The Movex software was used for Purchase Order Processing all parts and services required.

Nov 2008 – Nov 2010: Senior Buyer, Switchgear & Instrumentation, Bradford

This permanent role involved the complete management of all Sub-Vendors for Major Bought-Out Items including Modules, VSDs, UPS systems, Batteries, Chargers, Panels, and Bus Ducts etc. The main clients are British Nuclear, Chevron, BP, Samsung, APC, Alstom, Foster Wheeler, and SSW. The spend was in region of £25m depending on value of project bids won. I liaised with the Application Sales Engineering team, Contract Managers and Project Managers on ITBs’ evaluation both

commercially and technically for placement of Contract Orders and finally expediting with the main suppliers, namely Portastor, Bradgate, Gutor, Chloride Masterpower, Delta Unibus, ABB, Areva, Siemens and Schneider Electric. Cost savings accrued to £630k.

Jun 2008 – Nov 2008: Project Contracts Officer – Contract, Stopford Projects Ltd, Little Stanney, Nr Chester

A six month contract role preparing commercial evaluations for Construction and Equipment bids with clients BP and Chevron Petro Chemical sites within the UK. Value of work in excess of £25m. This work involves technical and engineering evaluations from receipt of ITBs to placement of Order and expediting. Liaison with Project Managers and Process Engineers was the main interaction. Equipment included Tanks, valves pipes and fittings.

Feb 2008 – Jun 2008: Senior Contracts Officer – Contract, Day & Zimmermann Ltd, Stockport, Cheshire

On-going contract role preparing ITBs Invitation to Bids and Managing Service for Mechanical, Electrical Equipment & Construction, Civil scopes of supply. Value of potential contracts £50m plus. Negotiating lowest bid or value for money quotes to meet needs of clients who are Ineos Chlor, DuPont and Eastman Chemicals. Using modern methods of Procurement: e.auctioning and e.procurement to achieve best price against budgeted cost of planned work. Issue of Purchase Orders is via SAP.

The savings achieved are measured in man-hours accumulated over period of work with client.

Sept 2007 – Feb 2008: Technical Project Contracts Agent – Contract, Butterley Engineering, Ripley, Derbyshire

Interim Buying Role covered clients work for British Nuclear Sellafield and Kvaerner Offshore. Main skills provided were Negotiation of Terms and Conditions, Price and availability of Project items, Traceability of Design requirements from Technical Drawings, full traceability of quality plans and documents for Sub-Contractors, Expediting for Outsourced Project Items to Primavera scheduling and introduction of new engineering sources. The spend was £17m.

Cost savings were achieved for value of £400k.

Jun 2006 – Aug 2007: Contract IS Buyer, Thales Information Systems plc, Service Division, Cheadle Heath, and Nr Stockport

This contract interim role covered procuring of Software & Hardware Maintenance Contracts for all Thales Group companies on an insourcing basis. My spend was £5.5m for software licences and £1.3m for hardware contract requirements. Thales has a £11bn turnover. My main aspects of brief are to co-ordinate with all the Thales Group Operational Business User Managers and negotiate the best terms and conditions linked to cost reductions and Service Level Agreements for both supplier and customer.

I also purchase printers, audio, visual equipment and have responsibility for particular contracts requiring Novation with Thales Services acting as an Outsourcing Company. I have access to e-procurement for various hardware and other consumables requirements. Cost savings to date are £544k from spend value £6.8m.

Dec 2005 – May 2006: Interim Sub-Contracts Assistant Purchasing Manager, SHS International Ltd, Liverpool

This temporary role was to cover secondment of the permanent manager who was undertaking a strategic European purchasing role at the Numico parent company head office based in Holland.

My role was the control of the day-to-day business at the Liverpool production site with responsibility for both new product development and existing sourcing of ingredients with 3rd party suppliers from a spend of £30m.The objective was to set-up Supply Agreements with the main suppliers suitable for Global Purchasing which are inclusive of Confidentiality Agreements and Quality Plans. I liaised with the Research and Development Project Leaders, Planning and Production Managers, and the Operations Marketing Directors. The main produce was pharma-food specialist products in powder and liquid form.

Cost savings were achieved through supplier rationalization from 30 total to 20.

Jun 2005 – Dec 2005: Contract Project Group Buyer, Timberwise plc, Knutsford, Cheshire

I completed an assignment with a construction service company to set up improved purchasing methods and procedures. The products purchased included chemical fluids, building materials, timber, chemicals, print, stationery, consumables, office equipment, telecoms for the head office and six branches throughout England and Wales. The spend value for both directs and indirects was £1.4m from a £7m turnover. Cost Savings were planned and £129k

was achieved from £546k spend with the main suppliers.

Jan 2005 – Jun 2005: Temporary Contract & Engineering Services Officer, Brunner Mond, Northwich, Cheshire

This contract work was to assist the buying team including two purchasing managers on raw material and engineering contract services purchasing from a spend of £30m.This included all chemical spend and stores allocation for engineering requirements also facility office service needs including photocopying maintenance, mobile telecoms provision. Use of Movex computerised system for Purchase Order Processing. I achieved cost savings of £20k for chemicals with spend £136k and introduced a new supplier.

Nov 2004 – Jan 2005: Temporary Project Contracts Agent, GE Energy Services, Normanton, Wakefield

This assignment was to assist the Global Sourcing Manager with Invites to Offer and the Commercial Operations team with bids for Rumanian, Greek and Russian sub station long term contract work. The Primary and Secondary Equipment included Busbar Protection, Relays, Disconnectors, Transformers, Diesel Generators, Cables, Panels and Containers. Cost saving at bottom line of £5m was achieved. Outsourcing assistance was also given to the Global Sourcing Manager.

Aug 2004 – Oct 2004: Temporary Group Buyer, SES Metals Group, Rochdale

This work project was undertaken to assist the Directors to achieve better stockholding methods and lower costs of acquiring multi steel purchases. The main range of

products stocked included stainless sheet, bars, angles, boxes, galvanised sheet, zintec sheet, cold and hot rolled sheets, copper, brass and aluminum alloys; there was also a small laser profiling work area for plate cutting. My initiative was to buy from steel mills and/or merchants and reduce the number of stockists which are currently used, also improve stock-turns and assist the sales team with back to back purchases. Cost saving of approximately £30k was achieved for three month call-off contract for stainless steel sheet. The spend was approximately £2m with £8m sales turnover.

May 2004 – Jul 2004: Temporary Buyer, Doncasters Bramah plc, Sheffield

I undertook an on-going temporary contract, procuring main production engineering parts and project work for the operational cells of the Aerospace structures section of the company. The main customers were Airbus, Boeing, B F Goodrich, Embraer, Rolls-Royce, GKN Aerospace and Westlands Helicopters. The spend value was in the region of £20m for the various sheet metal requirements and sub-contracting sourcing. I achieved £30k savings by means of kitting stainless steel parts for a Rolls-Royce Project. I reported to the Supply Chain Manager.

Feb 2004 – Apr 2004: Temporary IS Contracts Officer, United Utilities plc, Warrington

This three month contract was to assist the Procurement Manager Specialist in procuring various software and hardware requirements for the end users and clients operation of the Water Service in the North West of England.

The products and services include SAP/APIP, HP, IBM, Macromedia,

Asset Disposals, Collaboration agreements, Dun & Bradsheet Software, MAP Info, AutoCAD and Purchasing Card contract.

Sept 2003 – Dec 2003: Temporary Sub Contracts Officer, Amec Spie Rail Systems Ltd, Stockport

Assistance to both the Procurement Manager and Project Manager for set-up, negotiation and issue of sub-contracts for the Route 7 Alliance West Coast Modernisation. Method adopted in line with sealed bid tendering and EU procedures. Spend value was budgeted at £200m covering

IT provision, layout of telecommunications, facility requirements, duct laying, cabling, troughing, rebuilding, environmental issues, traffic management, cleaning and maintenance of compounds etc. Liaison was pursued with the Design Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Commercial Manager, Construction Manager and SHE - health and safety regulations to determine best contractual terms with attentive detail referred to at pre-let contract meetings.

Jan 2003 – Aug 2003: Temporary Purchasing Manager, Advance Procurement Services Ltd, Crewe

This 8 month contract work involved the setting up of a Purchasing department with a team of two Buyers and Purchasing Assistant. The position was responsible for both the procurement of machine tool maintenance products and services main spares valued at £3m spend annually and the control of the Purchase Ledger. The main client was Rolls-Royce plc Aerospace in Derby and Nottingham and Advance Automation Services and Machinery Services based in Crewe and Manchester.

Oct 2000 – Dec 2002: Procurement Associate, BASF IT Services Ltd, Wilmslow, Cheshire

This permanent position involved the following brief:

Management of the maintenance contract database for all site managers.

Control and Monitoring of Telecommunications Contracts, i.e. Mobile Phones and Network Voice and Data requirements through Service Levels Agreements for provision of customer service.

Issue and control of purchase ordering for all users from a Pegasus financial computerised package.

Introduction of educational training contract for helpdesk and lotus notes computing staff on two-year basis with control by means of service level agreement.

Control of Microsoft Select software licences and other prolific licences. Contract negotiations for essential line provisions and services with

both supplier and BASF Business user groups.

Supply of PC hardware and software also disposal of same with use of service level agreement.

Purchase of IT miscellaneous consumables, peripherals. Implementation of e.procurement and e.auctioning for quick hit areas for cost savings and software/hardware contracts set-up respectively.

Basic knowledge and understanding of SAP Purchasing package as part of the SAP team.

Assistance with BASF Lead Buyer Group Federation. Link to BASF global purchasing in Arnhem, Holland; Ludwigshafen,

Germany and Wadenswil, Switzerland HQ.

The spend January to December 2002 was £7m with Sales Turnover £25m.Cost Savings were achieved in two financial years to the value of £650k.

Nov 1999 – Sept 2000: Strategic Senior Buyer, Alstom T & D Distribution Switchgear Ltd, Higher Openshaw, Manchester

I liaised with the Procurement Manager to fulfil the following duties:

Managing the mechanical commodity groups to develop a structured supplier reduction programme, ensuring that the supply base was extremely effective.

Teamwork on projects to support Stretch 30 activities. Responsibility of the supplier schedule adherence and quality

performance of the supply base. Development of the buyers to assist their pursuit of objectives to meet

policy needs.The commodity range includes: Raw materials (steel, copper, sheet metal), fabrications, mouldings, turned parts, welded assemblies, insulation, machined parts and labels.

Close liaison with “sister” French companies was pursued to reduce the range of assembled parts and costs. Strategic overview of purchasing contributes to the business as a whole is under my control. Company spend is £39m total with mechanical commodity spend of £18m; sales turnover is £51m. Use of an ICL computerised network system.

Jan 1999 – Oct 1999: Senior Buyer, Alstom Engines, Hazel Grove, Stockport

My main duties were as follows:

Co-ordination of spares requirements with all buyers for purchased items including raw materials, bought-out finished goods, fabrications etc., to achieve and maintain the provision for spares, monthly and quarterly budget £k levels. The annual turnover for spares was £25m.

Control and purchase of bought-out and finished goods including piston rings, dampers, bearings, turbochargers, camshafts, lubricated oil pumps for both spares and engine build

requirements. The total spend with the sources of supply was approximately £ 5m.

Development of existing sources, both UK and European, to achieve cost savings and better lead times while maintaining the quality of product.

Introduction of alternate sources to achieve lower prices, improved lead times and to widen scope of supply. Use of an ICL MRP computerised network system.

Pursue existing teamwork within the department to benefit commitment of service to all end users.

I was transferred from this position to Alstom T&D.

Apr 1996 – Dec 1998: Senior Buyer, David Brown Special Products Ltd., Huddersfield

During my employment at this PLC, which specialises in heavy engineering gear manufacture, my objectives were acted upon in the following areas:

Review of existing purchasing procedures. Application of ISO 9002 quality procedures.

Reduction of supplier base and lower cost of Raw Material and Services purchased out of my £5m spend by 10% with main suppliers.

I reported to the Chief Buyer and had responsibility for the purchase of the following raw materials and services: Forgings of Round Steel Bar, Castings (Iron, Steel and Aluminium), Pipes and Tubes, Packaging and Minor Engineering requirements for services. I was also involved in project management as directed by the management team.

Aug 1994 – Mar 1996: Buyer, Rotunda PLC, Denton, Manchester. (Now Scapa Tapes PLC)

At Rotunda plc my tasks included the following challenges as part of my contract period:

Purchase of chemical, resin, solvent and aluminium raw materials for UK and French factories.

Spreadsheet preparation of monthly budgets/forecasts/actual costs for the Raw Material Price Index using Lotus 123 version 4.

Aug 1992 – Jul 1994: Purchasing Manager, Kooltherm Insulation Products Ltd. (Now Kingspan), Glossop

My responsibilities were:

Maintaining minimum stock level targets Reduced standard finished product costs Introduction of a computerised management system (Chameleon) to

meet the needs of production, engineering, technical, customer services and financial accounting.

My resulting achievements were:

Monthly monitoring system for chemical raw materials achieved £100k savings from an annual spend of £3m.

The Supplier base was reduced from 140 to 110.

This multi-national operation gave me the opportunity to achieve the following results:

Single Sourcing Policy by means of a manufacturing excellence programme

Reduction of supplier base from 200 to 140 Increasing stock-turn from 2/3 times to 5/6 times per annum Lowering the unit cost of production from a spend of £15m by 10% Reduction of bin values for engineering spares held in two store

locations by 20%Other spend categories covered maintenance service contracts, office equipment and computer hardware/software packages. Project Management involvement was undertaken on some Capital Purchases for production needs.
