going to help understand what
you need to run your online
business. The first most
important thing is that you get
proper hosting. Make a
mistake here and you could be
doomed.

LETS TALK HOSTINGIntroduction to Hosting
If you have ever thought about having a website
online you may have heard of something called
hosting. This news bulletin talks about hosting,
what it is, what you need, why you need it and
more!
What is hosting?
If you want to have a website on the internet, you
need to have a computer that is connected to the
internet 24/7. Now while you could do this yourself
you will need:
A reliable internet connection
A computer that is connected to the internet
24/7
Special software that is used to “serve websites”
Now that sounds like a lot of work and a lot of
responsibility. Yeah I mean you have to have all
this software, knowhow and expertise and that´s
just for one website!
So what you can do is buy hosting from a hosting
company. They have extremely fast and reliable
connections that are available 24/7. They also have
expert staff who will monitor your websites and
ensure they are always available.
Now for all of this you might pay anywhere from $5
to $50 a month. Depending on what you want and
need!
What do I need from hosting?
That´s something you have to ask yourself. Do you
only want to host one site? Do you want to host
many? Do you want to resell hosting and make
money? Let´s answer each question one at a time:
Hosting one site – if you are only hosting one site
you can do this rather cheaply. In fact you might
find it hard just to host one site as most companies
give you the option to host more than one!
Hosting many sites – this is more the norm. This
allows you to host a number of sites all from the
same account. This option is usually cheap, under
$10 a month.
Reselling hosting – now you can become a hosting
provider and resell hosting to customers, who will
pay you monthly or yearly to look after their
website. In reality you do very little and just pick up
the payment every month!
What’s the difference between hosting
many sites and reseller hosting?
This is one question I am constantly asked. If you
decide to buy what is called a reseller account you
will be able to create a “control panel” for each and
every website you decide to host. I explain control
panels next. However if you decide to not got for a
reseller account and go for the option of being able
to host multiple sites, you will not have a dedicated
control panel for each website. This option is ok for
personal sites but not suitable if you have clients.
What is a control panel?
The control panel is where you “control” all aspects
of your website. For example creating email
accounts, seeing stats on how visited your website
is, installing special software and more. There are
many different types but the best one and most
user friendly is “cpanel”. Insist that your hosting
provider has cpanel – if not move on and leave
them behind!

When you take reseller hosting, you will be able to
give each of your websites and those of your
clients, their own unique control panel. This is really
professional and allows them to fully administer
their own website.
Windows or Unix?
Both of the above are operating systems. Unix is by
far the better choice as it has been used as the
operating of choice for websites for years, and I
mean years. It is stable, well supported and not as
prone to viruses as Windows. Also when it comes to
installing any software, such as WordPress and
other such software Unix provides a more stable
and reliable platform.

When choosing hosting you should:
Decide what you need and want
Decide if you are going to resell hosting
Decide if you wish to have a dedicated control
panel for each site
Decide on Windows or Unix
Resources
The most reliable and best supported hosting
service I have used. I highly recommend this
service, even though it might be a little bit more
expensive it provides everything you need.
I used to have my hosting here, but found them to
be just ok compared to the above service
