Thoughts from Geoff Palmer

As the 2018-19 school year winds to a close, I would like to share a few words taken from the scholarship application of one of our graduating seniors. These words, to me, are a perfect reflection of our school from a student who has attended Sandusky Central Catholic Schools for 12 years.

“I am confident that I am ready for the next level. My morals are strongly rooted in the teachings of my faith and I am prepared because of the role models, knowledge and influences I have received at SMCC.”

The love of our school and the dedication of our students, parents and staff truly make us who we are as a Catholic school and it is only through friends like you that gives us the opportunity to be the best.

On May 26, our seniors will walk across the stage to receive their St. Mary Central Catholic High School diplomas. They have been offered more than $3.7 million in scholarships and have accepted just over $1 million. Seven of these young leaders have decided to serve our country as members of the United States Armed Forces and we couldn’t be prouder of their commitment to service above self. It is also astonishing to think that they have already earned 532 college credits, saving them more than $213,000 in college tuition. We are so honored to be celebrating these outstanding seniors. These accomplishments are only possible through the ongoing investment of our parish communities.

As always, service to our community has been a significant part of our work this school year as evidenced by more than 4000 hours of service performed by our students this year. As our Campus Ministry work continues to reach beyond our school walls, our Spring Service Day placed EVERY student in grades 6-12 out in the Sandusky community–at local businesses, nursing homes, food pantries, and animal shelters. Our students truly embody God’s call to “love thy neighbor.”

And finally, thanks to the generosity of many families, and collaborative work with the City of Sandusky and Erie County, the corner of Jefferson and Decatur is now an open space allowing everyone to see the real architectural beauty of the north face of the school building. The open space on Jefferson is a clear statement that our school will continue to be a strong presence in the downtown community.

While our students leave our care for the summer, please know we will be working all summer on our goals for next year. We would be honored if you could join us in praying for a safe summer for our Panther students, faculty and staff.

Together, we will continue to serve, learn and grow---Body, Mind and Spirit!
