Two components are required in the bisphenol curing
of fluoroelastomers, bisphenol and the phosphonium.
The utilization of either the RHENOFLUOR™ OPC or
RHENOFLUOR™ CC provides protection against the
negative influence sulfur has on fluoroelastomer curing.
Because of this, RHENOFLUOR™ Curative Technology
can and will provide “sulfur-safe” compounding through
the utilization of any product containing Rhein Chemie
Corporation’s proprietary organo-phosphonium technology.
This added protection against sulfur contamination coupled
with an easy to handle, readily dispersible curative technology
has never before been available in the dispersion marketplace.
Only in some cases has this technology been made available
through the utilization of cure-inclusive pre-compounded
fluoroelastomer gumstocks.
Products Containing “Sulfur-Safe” Organo-phosphonium Chemistry
RHENOFLUOR™ OPC – 10% active dispersion of proprietary
organo-phosphonium in a 66% fluorine di-polymer binder.
RHENOFLUOR™ CC – 90% active molecular powder
dispersion (MPD) of a blended ratio of bisphenol and
proprietary organo-phosphonium.

RHENOFLUOR™ BF6 – FKM Crosslinker
In FKM Gum Rubbers: approx. 2.5 phr in combination with
approx. 2.1 phr of RHENOFLUOR™ OPC (organo-phospho-
nium). In Cure-inclusive FKM Rubbers: approx. 1.9 phr, is
utilized to modify the cure speed and physical properties.
Mode of Action RHENOFLUOR™ BF6 is a crosslinking agent for fluoroelas-
tomer rubbers. RHENOFLUOR™ BF6 can be utilized as a
crosslinker for both di-polymer and ter-polymer types, requiring
a quick incorporation into the fluoroelastomer matrix with
excellent dispersion characteristics. Due to the homogenous
dispersion in the fluoroelastomer matrix, the occurrence of
localized over-cured/under-cured zones is avoided. This
ensures an improved resistance against ageing and dynamic
fatigue. RHENOFLUOR™ BF6 provides vulcanizates with excel-
lent physical properties and compression set characteristics.
ProcessingRHENOFLUOR™ BF6 contains special dispersing agents,
allowing quick absorption and excellent dispersion into fluo-
roelastomer rubber types. The utilization of RHENOFLUOR™
BF6 ensures clean, environmentally-friendly handling combined
with ease of incorporation and a rapid, homogenous dispersion.
Product Benefits / Unique Selling FeaturesUniform dispersion is particularly difficult in compounds
cured with the BF6 system. BF6 (crosslinker) and the onium
(accelerators) are high-melting solids. To cope with this, FKM
producers offer FKM polymers which contain the system’s
pre-incorporated, i.e. cure-inclusive polymers. Rhein Chemie
Corporation offers “solutions technology”, a new approach
to incorporate curative dispersions on a mill. Current issues
include: mill popping, poor dispersion and length of
incorporation time.
