Threshold wanted to get Smart Boards
Why?◦ Increase the level of participation and interaction
in Prevoc Skills Training◦ Allow those with limited technology access to
learn to access/utilize ◦ People learn “best” through visual demonstration
and observation
Original Mission
We believe the ability to use/interface with technology will become a required work skill
◦ Filling out job applications◦ Clock in/out, fill out time card◦ Training modules◦ “Cash Registers”◦ Key codes/lock pads◦ Face Book (just kidding!)
Required Work Skills
Smart phones/technology are excellent work place supports for◦ Cues◦ Reminders◦ Video task references
Being seen in public as a “technology user” helps break down barriers and build connections through shared experiences with others
More Reasons
We went looking for Smart Boards We found those and Smart Tables We looked at VISIO (less costly than SB)
◦ There is a “used” market for this technology as well
Joan comes in and says “look at this” –◦ Conover System – utilizing iPads
Patricia says “Fan-tastic …can we:◦ “use it for School To Work, Prevoc, what about Day
Service – people who read and don’t read, ooooh what about Community Based Prevoc …..and and and…
Choices
Take the time to review each option Compare and contrast features Ask for/participate in live demonstration Compare value/cost Discuss how broadly can you utilize/implement
the technology How much time effort will be needed for staff
learning Long term costs to maintain/use
