Document standards: Utilize the MS Excel file provided for specifying your solutions. Provide a design / layout drawing in PDF or other common viewing application. Provide a MS Word document to explain how your proposal of equipment and layout best achieves

the objectives. Also detail why a particular line item (excel file) solution may better meet our objectives as compared to other possible solutions as you see fit.

Request for Proposal P a g e | 4For Strength and Conditioning Resistance Training Equipment

Introduction

The intent of this project Request for Proposal is to lead to the outfitting of Claremont High School’s resistance training equipment to support its Strength and Conditioning and Physical Education programs. By providing our objectives, assumptions and constraints, we anticipate that each manufacturer / distributor who participates will best creatively meet them given differences in equipment technology and solutions. We will then evaluate these proposals on how well they meet our objectives, expense involved and what we feel is the best configuration to meet our needs.

An Excel file is provided to enter your proposal. Columns G through R need only be filled out for “Systems” and not for the components that will make up that system. The Excel file has an example entered to illustrate the expectations of how it would be filled out (this can be deleted).

We also look forward to a graphic illustration of the equipment layout within the room and a document that explains how your proposal of equipment and layout best achieves the objectives. Also detail why a particular line item (excel file) solution may better meet our objectives as compared to other possible solutions as you see fit.

Project Objectives

The scope of this request for proposal is for resistance training equipment. Equipment such as flooring, aerobic, plyometric, speed and agility, and accessories such as power bands, weight lifting belts, and olympic bar collars will be quoted separately. Please indicate if these are also areas you supply and are interested in proposing separately.

Objectives:

Maximize the number of student athlete pairs (lifter and spotter) performing the same exercise routine (upper body/lower body or leg, back, chest routines) simultaneously (in parallel) and as possible in the room size; focusing on compound “core/multi-joint”, “structural”, “power” “assistance” exercises” with isolation exercises as secondary.

Support strength and rehabilitation/reconditioning with the later being a small percentage of the time and only one or two athletes at a time.

Achieve the best benefit for the cost in terms of providing the greatest degree of exercise coverage and utility of equipment for its foot print. This will require the prioritization in the type of exercises and the specificity of the equipment in supporting only one movement (isolated) for example:

When comparing a “counter balanced smith machine” to a “pin selection multifunction chest machine” for rehabilitation/reconditioning, the smith machine provides the functionality of the pin select, but also offers three other exercise options.

Structured movement offeringlow weight resistance.

Achieve the greatest utility of the weights used to support the exercise equipment. For example, a given amount of weight (i.e. 200lb. @ $2.25 per lb.) has less utility and greater cost when only usably on a single machine for only one particular isolation exercise.

Support both Strength and Physical Education (from a resistance exercise perspective). The effectiveness of Strength and Conditioning as well as the effectiveness of Physical Education should not be compromised as a result of equipment choice. For example, if power racks are an appropriate solution for Strength and Conditioning whereby a 45lb. olympic bar may be too heavy for a particular student size and gender, a weight bar set (i.e. 10lb, 15lb, 20lb, 30lb, etc) would be an appropriate solution to supporting multi-joint exercises by simply providing an adequate weight. These types of solutions should be made in the notes for the equipment solution as they will be quoted separately. Consideration will need to be made for exercises such as pull-ups where a PE student or small athlete may not be able to lift their own body weight.

Requirements

*NOTE: please allocate space in your design for one aerobic bike and elliptical machine. Should these items impede achieving an optimal or maximal resistance training design and meeting the stated objectives, please call for clarification / decision (see Submission Questions and Clarifications)

Within your design / equipment proposal, the following are to be included at a minimum (not limited to):

One “counter balanced smith machine” is to be included.

Power Rack(s) of some configuration that meets the objectives is (are) to be included with at least the options of “spotting”, “power band” and “wide and narrow pull-up bar”. Other options may be considered as they meet the objectives.

Equipment to support leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses for rehabilitation/reconditioning purposes as well as isolated strength exercises.

Equipment to support Lat pull-downs for those who do not yet pull-up their own weight (size, gender, rehabilitation consideration)

Equipment to support abs for isolation exercises.

Olympic weights and bars to support the proposed exercise stations. In the case of “lifting racks”, each station should be outfitted with 315lbs (including bar weight of 45lbs), in a range of weights of: 2.5, 5, 10, 25, 45lbs.

Dumbbells are to be Urethane coated and provide a range of weight from 5lbs to 100lbs.

Achieve the greatest number of athlete pairs that can be performing the same exercise routine (upper body/lower body or leg, back, chest routines) simultaneously (in parallel) focusing on compound “core/multi-joint”, “structural” and “power” exercises.

Achieve the greatest degree of exercise (muscle area) coverage including “assistance exercises”:

Major muscle group coverage must include pectoral; front, medial and rear deltoids; trapezius; upper and lower latissimus; gluteus maximus; hams; quads, calfs; biceps; tricepts; forearm.

Exercises to be supported at a minimum (not limited to): bench press, shoulder press, bent over rows, pull-ups, shrugs, dead-lifts, squats, calf raises, bicept curls, tricept extension, wrist curl/extension, power exercises (power clean, snatch, etc)

Achieve the greatest utility of equipment (greatest number of exercises per foot print).

Achieve the greatest utility of the weight used to support the exercise equipment. (cost per pound vs. exercise application)

Supports rehabilitation/reconditioning.

Supports Physical Education (size and gender differences). If your configuration does not directly support because you do not manufacture or distribute the equipment, but you can suggest a solution, please do so.

Achieves the lowest total solution cost.

Provide installation services.

Please ensure you answer the following in your proposal:

Assumptions & Constraints

Budget - $0 dollars is allocated at this time. Proposals must illustrate the best benefit for the cost in terms of providing the greatest degree of exercise coverage and utility per equipment foot print.

Room size/dimensions (see Room Dimensions)

Room is on a basement floor with bare concrete.

Double door access is available from outside the building through to the equipment room.

Terms and Conditions

Installation – operability date: Please specify your lead time between order placement and equipment operability and turn over.

Payment – Please specify acceptable terms of payment including forms and payment term options.

Selection Criteria

The final section will be based on the degree to which the objectives are “best” met and the associated cost is the least. This may not mean the vendor with the lowest quote cost or the vendor with the most elaborate solution will be chosen.
