MOBY identification systems not only fulfill the widest range of challenges for an

extremely broad range of sectors. When compared to conventional identification

systems, this system family offers wide ranging benefits. Important data

accompanies a product/object from the very beginning. The contactless data

transfer ensures that they can stand-up to the rigors of industrial environments. Not

only this, a uniform system integration guarantees a simple and rapid integration in

the application, which saves time and costs.

Components which are harmonized with

one another

MOBY essentially comprises the following

individual components which are perfectly

harmonized with one another:

• Mobile transponders (MDS)

• Read/Write units (SLG/SIM)

• Interface modules (ASM)

Important data from the very beginning

MOBY identification systems ensure that

important data accompanies a product or

object right from the very beginning. The

transponders (MDS or tag/mobile data

memory) are located on the products,

product carrier, object or its transport or

packaging unit. Data is written into this

device contactlessly. This means that all data,

which is specific to the application, is located

in the transponder. It does not make any

difference as to whether it involves body

parts in the automobile industry, order

picking boxes in a warehouse, assembly

lines or quality data in the production

environment. A maximum of 32 kbytes of

data can be saved, and when required,

individually read and supplemented at the

various work or production stations. This

means that the material and data flow are

optimally synchronized with one another.

MOBY offers various transponders utilizing a

wide range of technologies (fixed code,

EEPROM or FRAM/SRAM) and geometrical

versions. Their strength is not only the high

data security and integrity, but also the

excellent, high degree of protection with

respect to ambient conditions such as

contamination, temperature fluctuations,

water used for cleaning and mechanical shock.

Contactless data transfer ruggedized for

industry

High-performance read/write units (SLG/SIM)

in various rugged packaging types ensure

fast and secure data transfer between the

transponders and higher-level systems (PLC,

PC, ...). Data and energy* are inductively

transferred using electromagnetic and radio

control field from the particular read/write

unit. This principle allows contactless data

transfer and guarantees that the systems are

admirably suited for industrial environments.

They function reliably in dirty environments

and with non-metallic materials. The devices

can be used on-the-fly whereby the data

memory, depending on the configuration,

can move past the read/write unit with

transverse velocities of up to 20 m/sec.

Various test mechanisms (data monitoring,

CRC, ECC, ...) guarantee error-free data

transfer, even under extreme environmental

conditions. The read/write unit is directly

connected to an ASM, to a PC or any other

systems through a serial connection (located

up to 1000 m away).

Uniform system integration

The interface module (ASM) ensures that the

MOBY identification systems can be inte-

grated into SIMATIC®, SINUMERIK®, connected

to PROFIBUS, TCP/IP*, PC and to any other

system. Once they have been supplied with

the appropriate parameters and data, they

automatically handle the data transfer with

the transponders. The appropriate results

and data are then made available.

The appropriate software modules (FB/FC for

SIMATIC, C libraries for PC with Windows)

ensure simple and fast integration into the

particular application.

The mobile handheld terminal (STG)

The identification systems are supplemented

by various handheld terminals for mobile

applications. These battery-powered termi-

nals ensure an even higher degree of

flexibility in the various applications. All of

the transponders of the associated MOBY

identification systems can be directly and

contactlessly read and written into through

the integrated, inductive interface.

The positive additional effect

Computers and Communication supplies

are disengaged with MOBY-faults in the

communication system cannot cause any

problems. Production can continue using

the data stored at the product.

Commissioning can be done very quickly

because part areas or lines can be pretested

without having the whole plant in operation.

The MOBY transponder has a number ofadvantages when compared with other in-formation systems, for example barcodes:

• MOBY identification systems identifyobjects completely automatically, quicklyand with 100% data transfer integrity

• MOBY transponders can always bere-used

• They are insensitive to temperaturefluctuations and contamination, forinstance, oil, dust, water

• Up to 32 Kbytes of production and qualitydata can be directly stored on or at theproduct

• MOBY devices have a long service life andare convincing thanks to their optimumcost/performance ratio

MOBY manages your processes

The high-performance MOBY RF identi-

fication systems solve any task quickly and

with sovereignty no matter how complex.

Contrary to conventional barcode systems,

they not only identify and read, but

manage the logistical operations using

re-writable electronic transponders/smart

labels. This means that your product has

what can be considered to be an electronic

accompanying goods note which allows you

or your customers to immediately access all

the required information – at any time and

everywhere, contactlessly and fully auto-

matically. But the best is yet to come – when

required, you can even identify several

transponders simultaneously and selectively

process the data. This functions reliably

through wood, plastic, paper, non-metallic

materials and even through contamination.

MOBY can be perfectly integrated

MOBY identification systems function ac-

cording to the well-proven principle of the

transponder/smart label in conjunction with

high performance read/write units. They can

be perfectly integrated into SIMATIC®,

terminals

The mobile handheld terminal which is

available for MOBY identification systems

provides you with an even higher degree of

flexibility. Data from the transponders/ smart

labels can be contactlessly read-in or

modified – and that locally. The mobile hand-

held terminal can function as data collection

point or can be coupled to the host through

radio/infrared link. You can also realize you

own mask menus using the optional C library.

Strong performers – which can absorb a lot.MOBY for assembly lines and industrial production

Refrigerators, coffee machines, televisions, vacuum cleaners, ABS systems, air bags,

small motors, doors, cockpits, braking assemblies, motors, gearboxes, automobiles,

computers, contactors, switches, dialysis filters, ceramics, spectacle lenses – these

are all typical applications for MOBY I, MOBY E and the new MOBY U – the identifi-

cation systems for assembly lines and industrial production. For many years, they

have been used in numerous industrial applications and that worldwide, and they

have even successfully proven themselves in the toughest industrial environments.

MOBY EMOBY IMOBY U

MOBY – Innovative technology down to

the finest details

You receive the various components, which

are harmonized with one another for your

individual identification application – this

means that you can keep your head free for

important tasks. Not only are the details OK,

but also the overall solution.

MOBY controls your material flow

MOBY fits a wide range of requirements with

a comprehensive range of transponders and

read/write units. MOBY guarantees

extremely reliable identification – but is

engineered and installed at a low cost.

The principle is always the same:

Transponders contain all of the production

and manufacturing data. They accompany

your product through the assembly, transfer

and production lines therefore allowing you

to optimally control your material flow.

MOBY can handle the toughest of

conditions

Our identification systems are aligned to the

requirements of your production – it doesn't

make any difference as to which application

is involved. They not only guarantee high

data security and integrity, but they also

have an enormous memory capacity of up to

32 kbyte and an extremely high degree of

protection up to IP68. However, they also

distinguish themselves due to their extraordi-

nary ruggedness even under the toughest of

environmental conditions. They are strong

performers which can also absorb a lot –

MOBY identifications systems.

MOBY I/U also administers large data

quantities

Our MOBY "file handler" is precisely the right

one when it comes to managing large data

quantities. In this file management system,

which has a structure similar to DOS, you

can create, delete and modify files, assign

authorization rights and call-up everything

using descriptive file names.

MOBY offers a standard system

integration

Our read/write units are optimally integrated

into the SIMATIC, the PROFIBUS, TCP/IP* or

PC so that your data is transferred quickly,

reliably and smoothly at any time. The

appropriate software modules guarantee fast

integration into your application.

Furthermore, it goes without saying that

MOBY can be connected to any control

system.

MOBY communicates fast – very fast

Even large data quantities are quickly trans-

ferred between the read/write unit and the

transponder with data transfer rates of

between 19200 baud and 384 Kbaud*.

MOBY isn't easily disturbed

MOBY is essentially insensitive to electro-

magnetic faults and disturbances as a result

of the data transfer frequency of 1.81 MHz,

13.56 MHz or 2.4 GHz. Not even extreme

environmental effects can influence the

system.

MOBY U sets new standards

MOBY U sets new standards when it comes

to simple commissioning, reliability and low-

maintenance operation as a result of the inte-

gration of GSM/UMTS functions and techno-

logies, for example, limitation of the sensing

range.

Thanks to new features, e.g. automatic selec-

tion of free frequency channels (frequency

hopping), the system harmonizes ideally

with other 2,4- GHz systems (wireless LAN,

Bluetooth...)!

Assembly lines with small workpiece

carriers

The FRAM memory technology combines the

advantages of RAM and EEPROM. The result:

An almost unlimited number of write cycles

are available. The life time is increased as

there are no back-up batteries. It is extremely

compact, i.e. small transponders can be

implemented for assembly lines with small

workpiece carriers.

High temperature transponder

We have specifically developed high-tem-

perature transponders for use in painting

systems. For some time now, these are being

successfully used in the automobile industry

throughout the world.

The small, compact

"Power Pill"

A small, compact "Power Pill"

has revolutionized tool identification. It can

be mounted on conventional tool holders,

connected directly to the metal and can save

all of the data necessary for tool

management, for instance, the automatic

tool pre-setting. A maximum

of 752 bytes of data can be saved.

Our read/write units are optimally integrated

into the SIMATIC, the PROFIBUS, TCP/IP* or

PC so that your data is transferred quickly,

reliably and smoothly at any time. The

appropriate software modules guarantee fast

integration into your application.

Furthermore, it goes without saying that

MOBY can be connected to any control

system.

MOBY communicates fast – very fast

Even large data quantities are quickly trans-

ferred between the read/write unit and the

transponder with data transfer rates of

between 19200 baud and 384 Kbaud*.

MOBY isn't easily disturbed

MOBY is essentially insensitive to electro-

magnetic faults and disturbances as a result

of the data transfer frequency of 1.81 MHz,

13.56 MHz or 2.4 GHz. Not even extreme

environmental effects can influence the

system.

MOBY U sets new standards

MOBY U sets new standards when it comes

to simple commissioning, reliability and low-

maintenance operation as a result of the inte-

gration of GSM/UMTS functions and techno-

logies, for example, limitation of the sensing

range.

Thanks to new features, e.g. automatic selec-

tion of free frequency channels (frequency

hopping), the system harmonizes ideally

with other 2,4- GHz systems (wireless LAN,

Bluetooth...)!

Assembly lines with small workpiece

carriers

The FRAM memory technology combines the

advantages of RAM and EEPROM. The result:

An almost unlimited number of write cycles

are available. The life time is increased as

there are no back-up batteries. It is extremely

compact, i.e. small transponders can be

implemented for assembly lines with small

workpiece carriers.

High temperature transponder

We have specifically developed high-tem-

perature transponders for use in painting

systems. For some time now, these are being

successfully used in the automobile industry

throughout the world.

The small, compact

"Power Pill"

A small, compact "Power Pill"

has revolutionized tool identification. It can

be mounted on conventional tool holders,

connected directly to the metal and can save

all of the data necessary for tool

management, for instance, the automatic

tool pre-setting. A maximum

of 752 bytes of data can be saved.

Extremely interesting for companies:MOBY for production logistics and transport control

Do you require a cost-effective identification system which provides a 100%

performance over middle distances and high object velocities and also reliably

functions even in tough environments? Not a problem: Our MOBY V and the new

MOBY U identification systems optimally fulfill these requirements – with a high

degree of performance and precision.

MOBY R

Technical data

MOBY R

Frequency: 2,4 GHz

Memory: 32 Bit Festcode

Read distance: up to 300 m

Temperature up to: +65°C

Locating, responding, optimizing:MOBY for realtime locating

From locating vehicles in the automobile industry through tracking and separating

materials in the chemical industry up to complex material management and shipping

systems in logistics. Using the new MOBY R, you always have the overview no matter

which industry sector. It can open up completely new possibilities when it comes to

cost-effectively arranging your various processes. The new MOBY R – experience a

new standard when it comes to transparency, cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

Fast, up-to-date and precise:

Locating in the real-time mode

MOBY R localizes and tracks objects such as

automobiles, packages, materials and many,

many more objects in the real-time mode with

an accuracy of better than 3 meters and at a

range of up to 300 meters. Even large areas

can be reliably covered by cascading the

devices. The mode of operation is based on

transmitters and antennas and is really quite

simple: Your objects are equipped with a

transponder as signal transmitter. They either

automatically transmit in a freely selectable

time interval from between 5 seconds and one

hour or are initiated via trigger by predefined

release.

Any object can be scanned and graphically

represented according to criteria such as

position, lifetime or object data. All data is

available online and can be called up through

the Intranet from any workstation. The

monitored area is transparently visualized.

More efficient processes for increased

cost-effectiveness

However, MOBY R can do a lot more: The

system interrogates specific data in your

various processes and fully automatically

initiates the appropriate actions. For instance,

barriers open or close when an object

approaches, or materials which may not be

stored together are automatically separated.

The result: Material and production flows are

optimized, your processes are speeded up –

forever. However, there is also another benefit

– statistical evaluations and reports. This

means that bottlenecks or overcapacities can

be identified early on – resources can be better

planned and utilized.

Application examples

• Transparent localization in real time

• Wireless Material Call System

• Forklift/vehicle location and control

• Location of containers and boxes containing

various materials

• Tracking delivery vehicles, e. g. trucks

• Safety functions such as access control,

vehicle or personnel tracking

As for all other systems, also here

transponders and the use of high-perform-

ance read/write units, which can be inte-

grated into SIMATIC, PROFIBUS, PC or TCP/IP*,

result in a resounding success.

MOBY U for production logistics

MOBY U is based on the new ISO 18000-4

Standard and was designed for international

use. It has a multi-tag capability up to 32

Kbyte memory and a range, which can be set

in steps, up to three meters. This means that

the new system is especially suitable for:

• Main assembly lines in automobile

production (body shop, paint shop, finalassembly)

• Vehicle identification for incoming vehicle

monitoring in depots or at shipping

companies

• Container, box and load carrier identifi-

cation in transport logistics and

distribution

The known effects of noise (e.g. overreach

suppression) were able to be suppressed by

integrating UMTS/GSM technologies. With

new functions, for example, the automatic

selection of free frequency channels

(frequency hopping), MOBY U operates

optimally with other 2.4 GHz systems such

as WirelessLAN or Bluetooth. It sets new

standards when it comes to simple com-

missioning and is admirably suited for

maintenance-free continuous operation in

the toughest environments.

MOBY V for suburban railway

identification systems

MOBY V was especially developed for closed

rail systems, e.g. suburban railways, whereby

special emphasis was placed on a high noise

immunity. Transponders make it possible to

permanently track important data (operating

time, automatic train tracking, vehicle data,

etc.) directly at the carriage/train. This data

can then be used to optimize traffic

operations.
