This fun mouse shaped project will ‘flash’ his red eyes to prompt you hehas a note is his mouth! Can be used on the table top, on top of a pencil orstuck via the included magnet to a metal surface like a fridge.

A simple introduction to electronicsand soldering with two LEDs thatilluminate a clock face when theswitch mechanism is pressed. Theinjection moulded case protects theclock hands and a folded plasticsupport leg supports the clock andcontains the uplighter.

Many schools already teach CAD and CAM by milling, engraving or lasercutting a piece of plastic to the students’ design. This uplighter isdesigned to greatly enhance this work by creating unique illuminatedsigns and night lights.

The electronic circuit uses 3 bright LEDs to light the design, and uses atransistor / capacitor circuit to flash the LEDs. A second switch is usedto select a slow or fast flash rate.

Each kit is supplied with hands and asimple clock face but most studentschoose to design and print their own clockface. For those without access tocomputers a sheet of sticky labels is alsoavailable, each sheet has enough stickersto decorate and customise at least 3 clockfaces.

The kit includes casing, clock mechanism,hands, PCB and all components. Anupgraded clock mechanism (with addedalarm function) kit is also available. Theclock requires an AA battery (notincluded), and the LEDs requires 2 coincells (included).

A pre-formed ‘blister pack’ moulding isalso available separately to producerealistic marketing and packaging for theclock.

Please note: this kit requires use of a strip-heater to bend the clock support leg. Mostschools already have strip-heaters asstandard classroom equipment.

Budget PIC ProjectsHexapod RobotBuild a walking hexapod with 6 legs –so how does that ingenious mechanismactually work?! The hexapod kit is avery stimulating project to introducestudents to simple mechanisms. The kitis available in 3 formats, which all usethe same die punched chassis set andinjection moulded gearbox.

SINGLE MOTOR HEXAPOD KITIn its simplest form hexapod simply walks forward when switched on.No electronic PCB – a single motor is controlled directly from the on/off switch.

DOUBLE MOTOR & BUMPERS KITIn this format hexapod detectsobstacles in its path and moves toavoid them. No electronic PCB, themotor direction is simply controlledby the two bumper switches.

PROGRAMMABLE HEXAPOD KITIn this format hexapod uses a pre-assembled PCB fitted with a pre-programmed PICAXE microcontroller. In this format hexapod canintelligently detect obstacles and reverse away from them before heading

off in a new direction. The PICAXEmicrocontroller is provided pre-programmed, so this project can be usedas provided or students can choose tooptionally re-program the chip by usingthe PICAXE programming system.
