Revival At The Watergate Nehemiah 8

The Request For Revival

• There has been no great revival in the history of the church that has not been borne out of a revival of the word of God.

The Requirements For Revival

• " For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones." (Isaiah 57:15).

• "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise" (Psalm 51:17).

• "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." (Psalm 34:18).

• " For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." (Isaiah 66:2).

The Roots of Revival

• A genuine revival is God's work. It is a sovereign act of God, and it is bestowed upon those who fulfill the requirements of prayer and confession and repentance.

The Results of Revival

• Psalm 47:1 the Bible says, " O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph..“– Folks are going to worship.– Folks going to witness. – Folks had a winsomeness.

• We give a few dollars of “conscience money to missions, and yet as a general rule we almost never talk to our neighbors about Christ.

• Nehemiah 8:13-14, they restored the feast of the tabernacles.

• Nehemiah 9:2 they separated themselves from pagans. • Nehemiah 10:29 they promised to obey the

commandments. • Nehemiah 10:31 they pledged to keep the sabbath day

holy. • Nehemiah 10:35 they made a new commitment to tithe. • Nehemiah 10:39 "we will not forsake the house of our

God."

• The appeal should be based on a new commitment to read, study, memorize and live out the word of God.
