EFFECTIVE EVIDENCE ~ EXPLAINING EVIDENCE 4.) Good persuasive writers know that in order to convince others, you have to lead them to your point. To do this, good writers provide explanations of their evidence to explain what the evidence shows AND explain how the evidence supports their point.

First, writers explain their evidence

Then, writers explain the “So what?!”

This shows… This means…

This reveals… This matters…

This exemplifies… This is significant…

This demonstrates… As a result…

This proves… Consequently…

This illustrates… Ultimately…

This suggests…

This supports…

TRY IT OUT! LEAD IN -> EXPLAIN -> SO WHAT?!

In a Harris Interactive Survey of 1, 505 mothers, 29% of the participants said that they serve milk at dinner. Surprisingly, this data reveals that over half of the mothers surveyed do not serve milk at dinner. This is significant because without chocolate milk served in schools, students who choose not to drink the offered white milk may not have an opportunity to acquire the nutrients they need at home.
