A to F Elementary “Specials” and St. Mary Catholic Middle School Schedule The SMCS elementary curriculum is greatly enhanced by our “special” teachers. Specials are teachers who teach one subject, usually to all of the children in each school (e.g. art, band, computer, library, music, physical education and Spanish). We have devised a system to ensure that all of our students get an approximately equal number of days with these specials. Each day of the school year is assigned a letter from A to F. The first day of school is an A, the second day a B, and so on. We have A to F, and then start over. Specials are assigned to schools by letter days rather than days of the week. When there is a vacation day, the letter follows in order, assigned to the next school day. The A-to-F schedule is included in this calendar, and each campus will send home an explanation of what specials are scheduled on A to F days at that campus. The middle school schedule also follows a six-day rotation. Student schedules will list which day corresponds with each letter A to F for their daily classes. Athletic and Activities Schedules The schedules for all SMCS athletic teams and most clubs and activities are listed on the Big East Conference website. Additional features include information about practice, bus and competition times, as well as the ability to sign up for email alerts when schedule changes are made (great for when a game is canceled due to weather!).
